HERD's 2009 Mock Draft - Version 1.0 (1 Viewer)

Abraham

Not much commentary on this one b/c it's early but McShay is wedded to Bradford at #1 (which is silly, even in the event Bradford comes out) and Stafford at #3 (which is worse b/c the Chiefs just hired a GM who had a hand in 3 Super Bowl wins on the back of a late round QB). ANyway...

Have at it.

***Detroit trades #20 overall and etc. for Matt Cassell. I believe that the Pats placed the tag on Cassell thinking it was likely that Detroit, with two #1's a new coach, and no QB, would be enticed in to trading for him.

While the Cassel to DET trade makes sense (which by extension means it likely wouldn't happen), the LAST postion I see NE taking is a WR, especially a Florida one at that.

I agree that the QBs are a bit overhyped. If Sanchez comes out where would you slot him?

I have Bradford at #1 too. What does that make me? :lmao: :(

Edit: And you misspelled Orakpo and Laurinaitis.

Laurinaitis plays MLB. So does DeMeco Ryans. Who moves where?

That seems really high for Maclin and Gresham.

1. I've never seen so many people get excited about a QB (underclassman no less) that looks awful the first time someone gets in his kitchen. If you told me to watch Bradford's game film and compare him to someone, I'd say a thicker version of Ken Dorsey. Even if I'm a little wrong, that still doesn't make him the #1 pick.2. But you knew who I was talking about, didn't you? ;)

I don't see Denver skipping defense at 12.
Perhaps, as they certainly need the help on D and Mauluga or Moore would be a strong all-around addition.
I agree that they are missing RB on offense but with Nolan in town and with Denver possibly switching to more of a 3-4 front, I think this entire offseason will be dedicated to defense. I could be wrong though...

Don't like Laurinaitis at the Texans' spot. If we move DeMeco outside I'd prefer it be for Mauluga only, and that might be pushing it. We really need pass rushers, whether outside or at DT, and I'm hoping we go there. A play-making safety would be nice as well. Corner could be addressed as well.

Lots of people having SD taking a RB at #16, I think I'll cry if that happens. they need a ILB/DT/RG/RT so much more than RB it isnt funny.

The Lions are taking a QB at #1. write it down

Awful? KEN DORSEY?! You're playin' with me.

1. Good points, to which I offer: MICHAEL BENNETT WAS GETTING CARRIES AGAINST THE STEELERS.2. "Out with the old, in with the old"

I'm being serious. He's Ken Dorsey and Chris Simms all over, neither of whom sniffed round 1. Both were EXCELLENT when things were going to plan and they had time to do what they wanted. But as soon as both saw a good front 7, they morphed in to positively pedestrian football players.

SD will draft a RB just not with the first rounder (I hope). They dont have a 2nd rounder, but should have their 3rd plus a comp 3rd for Turner to grab a b/u RB with

Quick thoughts:

- Wells is probably a better physical specimen than Moreno, but Moreno should probably be drafted higher. He doesn't have any of the durability/toughness questions that Beanie will have to answer.

- I see LeSean McCoy and CJ Spiller as first round picks if they declare. I think Shonn Greene could sneak in there with a good combine.

- I'll be surprised if Darrius Heyward-Bey doesn't get picked in the first round. His size and speed will mesmerize some team.

- I think Kenny Britt will be picked ahead of Hakeem Nicks.

Gresham at #9? Seems awfully high for a TE and the Packers have much bigger holes to fill on defense or the offensie line.

Another Tweener / Project / Convert to 3-4 OLB????I think the Gholston pick was kind of a luxury pick at a spot they didn't have a great need at - I can't see going down that road so soon again...They have much bigger needs - QB, ILB, CB, S, WR, I'd even continue beefing up the OL. And I'd really like Raji to groom and give relief to Jenkins in the middle...The 3-4 is such a mess without that monster player in the middle I'd personally draft Raji.

Oh yea, I was going to comment on that pick.I don't think Gresham is a very good NFL prospect at all. He's basically a one trick pony: catch the ball, run in a straight line, and bowl into the first tackler who gets in your way. That style of play works in college where he's bigger and faster than a lot the defenders, but it won't be nearly as successful in the NFL. The best NFL TEs are much more agile and explosive than Gresham (Winslow, Gonzalez, Keller, Cooley). Gresham is more like Leonard Pope: a lumbering giant with limited agility and burst. I'll be stunned if he's a top 10 pick and I don't think the Packers will take him. They're in good shape at TE.

No chance the Eagles take a DT or DE in the 1st round...

They have 2 young starters in Bunkley/Patterson at DT and drafted Laws in the 2nd round last year

DE is set too.. and they have Bryan Smith who they like who didnt even play

The Eagles are drafting:

a OT

a TE

a Safety

or maybe a guard if there was one Reid loved

Pretty good mock here Abraham. Just a glaring mistake for your Jags pick. With Khalif Barnes being a FA this offseason, coupled with his previous history with the city of Jacksonville (arrest/racist claims), if Eugene Monroe is sitting there availible at the 8th pick, the Jaguars will RUN not walk to pick him up. Especially if Malcolm Jenkins is off the board. At #8 only Jenkins has the talent to unseat OT as the #1 off season priority for the Jags. Not to mention that Pass Blocking was a weak point for Khalif Barnes. Monroe would address that need in a huge way.

While I love Vontae Davis as much as any Illini leg humper, the talent difference between him and Jenkins is significant. Perhaps post-combine he will close the gap, but at this point, his body of work dictates that Jenkins is the clear cut #1.

Also didn't the Bears just draft Chris Williams with their #1 last year, as their LT? Because Jason Smith cannot play RT in this league.

Another 3-4 OLB for the Jets? After the Gholston experiment this year, I'd be pissed if I were a Jet fan and this transpired.

Mayo and Spikes as the ILB duo for the Pats will be legendary. Both are freaking awesome players.

Quick thoughts:

- CLE taking a WR in the 1st while ignoring defense? I don't see it.

- I'm assuming with your having Oakland take a CB at #7 means you think Asamugha (you know who I mean) will be gone?

- DEN picking a RB at #12 with as many probs on D that they have? Dunno.

- Does SD taking Knowshon at #16 mean you believe LT2 is either gone or done? And, regardless, do you think a pass rushing DE or LB (like Michael Johnson or Brandon Spikes who go shortly after) would make more sense?

- Are there any WRs out there for the NYG that are within your margin of talent at #28 that would make greater sense to go WR route instead of TE?

- PITT taking neglecting OL in the first would enrage minions.

Thanks....good read.

I think they are holding out that Smith and Manningham can be solid in a year or two.

Denver finished 12th in the NFL in team rushing yards per game despite this:

I think they'll add a RB but dear lord don't let it be at #12.

Chicago: Yeah, they need OL help, I can see them going that way. Maybe QB if they really like one of them.

Philly: Zero chance they don't take OL at one of their first picks. With Thomas and Runyan being FA's (yeah, one will probably be re-signed) they'll really need to draft a tackle. This is assuming, of course, that they don't grab a player like Gross as a FA.

seriously doubt atlanta goes wr in the first

theyve got to beef up that defense. boley, milloy, and brooking could all be gone

id like to see them grab crowder in the offseason

Says the diehard longhorn who lives in Austin. :P

No way TT makes that pick at number 9. Already loaded at TE. Donald Lee=very good. JerMichael Finlay=scary potential.

Why a WR for the Falcons?

Roddy White & Michael Jenkins proved to be a very good duo with Ryan. Jenkins just signed a long term deal, White's not far behind I'm sure and Harry Douglas showed alot of potential and chops in the slot.

...and Matt Stafford at #22?

I don't have E. Brown in my top 32. There are about 5 or 6 DEs I prefer to him at present. McShay loves him (top-10 I think).

Agreed. I know BB & Urban are now BFFs, but I don't see them taking Harvin if they get an extra first. They would use both picks on D, likely a LB and DB.
