When do we start to hear...oh the poor baby had a rough childhood or oh they're brain isn't fully developed. They need to shoot these pieces of crap on site no questions.

Or..... since it was caught in time, we can get them help. Maybe attempt to understand what led them down this path, and try to fix it.

Oh no personal attacks, how will I make it through my day. I'm sure you wouldn't want these pond scum living next to you after they were "rehabilitated".

Not a bad idea...Give her a full face motorcycle helmet and let all the school kids throw stones at her...
I was about to suggest that this sounds kind of ISISish, but once I saw that you were willing to give her a helmet, I knew you were a man of compassion.

To leave a prepubescent kid alone is practically an unforgivable crime anymore.  Personally the parents can decide for themselves when a kid is ready to be responsible for himself but that's not how the state and vindictive neighbors might see it.

So you would home school them by leaving them by themselves?

On behalf of teachers everywhere I'm going to start a GoFundMe so that you can keep your kids home.

Wait they read her private journal?
Dear diary: I think Billy does like me! Sometimes the way he looks at me, OMG!!! I feel funny down there just thinking about it. Also my plot to shoot up the school is progressing well. No one suspects a thing! Mwhahahahahahaha!!! Well I gotta go to volleyball practice xoxoxoxo

Look, we're trying to repeal mental health care and give mental health patients guns now, okay? Get with the program.

Well, ideally there'd be a parent at home to offer guidance here and there.  I was answering the question of why not everyone has the means to homeschool.  The answer was not every family can afford to keep a parent at home and they're liable to get their kid taken away.  Reg llama was dumbfounded by this question and didn't really understand why it isn't practical.  And yes, to some extent you do give the kid space to follow their own innate curiosity about the world.  Just because they aren't learning compulsory education subjects doesn't mean they aren't learning.  Read about the Sudbury model and other homeschooling methods.

Weird thing to make fun of. Especially by a guy that admits to having nightmares over the election. Mental health issues aren't funny shtick.

Stereotypes much?
It's a generalization. I am sure it isn't 100% accurate, but 100% of the kids I have known who were home schooled ended up being somewhere between a bit "off" socially and weird as ####.

It would be fair to question whether that is a matter of poor socialization or genetics though, since 100% of the parents that I have known who chose to home school their kids were somewhere between "off" and bonkers.

Yeah, because that definitely produces normal, well-adjusted kids.
Implying public schools haven't turned out the most disengaged, ignorant and docile populace of all time.  Conform with the normal kids, children!

And to think I was the one who was taken to task for stereotyping.
There's been roughly 170 years of public education in place.  Things are looking like the sort of dystopian world idiocracy portrayed.  I don't see how anyone could look at the state of affairs politically/culturally and come to any other conclusion.

I don't think you're wrong for stereotyping, I think you're just wrong.

I should elaborate on that.  We've had this discussion at pretty great length in other threads but you just can't get the same individually mindful education from a massive public school setting as when you give kids the autonomy to learn and experience things on their own terms.

Painting homeschool families like weirdos based on your anecdotal experience is just bogus plain and simple.
