Hey idiots in the SUVs (1 Viewer)

Snowing like crazy here in Northeast Ohio, freeways covered in snow, driving is slowed quite a bit.

Uh oh, here it comes, the inevitable stand still traffic. And oh wait, what's this??? WHat's causing this monster stop and go traffic?? You guessed it, an SUV off the road all dented up needing a tow.

Never fails. It has to be like 90% of the time I see a car off the road in the winter time, it's either an SUV or a big 4x4 truck.

Hey, hey guys, you CAN'T drive like it's an 80 degree sunny day even though you think you paid for a car that can do it.

Sorry, you...just...can't.

(no not all the people that drive SUVs are idiots, but the few who logjam up all the roads in the winter time with their careless driving are giving you all a bad name)

yup, most annoying thing in the winter is driving on slippery roads and then seeing a big truck start tailgating me. I always root for them to crash (single vehicle accident of course).

well, they seem to crash at a much higher rate than everyone else driving tiny little cars, so your rooting must be working a bit

One of lifes greatest pleasures is when there is tons'o'snow and I can take my truck out. My Hoe has never been stuck and I actually have to turn off the 4WD in order to have any fun.

Now I don't tailgate folks and usually only go out when its so bad the only people on the road are guys like me and the plows.

What they fail to understand is that their size and 4WD may help them GO better in the snow/ice, physics still applies and STOPPING and TURNING are still problems.

Yeah, they seem to fail to understand that you shouldn't drive 50mph when you should be driving 30mph.

So, so, so many cars off the road on my way to work today. Probably 8 or 9. No ####ting you, every one was an SUV or truck. It's like this every year.

Tahoe? How do you like it? Seriously considering one.

Mine is a highly modified 1997. I wouldn't part with her for anything.

I think the new ones look like a hearse.

I will give credit to my safe driving in the snow due to my former job of delivering pizza. I always had a blast when it was snowing out in Green Bay/Madison delivering because the smart people were at home and I was bringing them their food. More tip money too.

I will concur with the SUV thing. People think they are invincible or something. Its not like driving 50mph will save a lot of time for that driver especially at the risk that 50mph brings vs. 30mph or lower.

Pretty much sums it up. The SUV is like the drunk guy starting a fight he can't win. Just back off dude, just back off.

Yeah....I was an idiot once the first time I had 4WD and it snowed. I quickly learned that 4wd is great to help get you out of trouble (out of the field), but wasn't nearly as effective as I expected at keeping me from finding that field at the side of the road to begin with.

Shame on you. Do your job, man.

Lots of people say it's 90% SUVs and other 4x4s in the ditch but it's not. Totally made up.

Don't blame me for having the vehicle, tires, experience and skill to drive 70-80 through snow. Just stay in the left lane and you'll be fine. I will, however, stop and help pull you out or give you a ride if need be. :drive:

Maybe in your area it is made up. Not here.

Hey, if you wanna drive fast and make it, so be it. BUt when you inevitably wreck and cause the rest of us to be late for work, well, #### you buddy.

BTW, all 8-9 vehicles off the road today, all SUVs or trucks. Made up my ###. Right up my ###.

Looks like a few of the SUVs I saw off the road today.

Sweet!

I love the brand new ones. Think they look awesome. And they're sooooo nice inside.

My uncle has one. It's real nice, they are just above my price range though

Smart drivers are smart drivers and dumb drivers are dumb drivers. Blaming SUVs is like blaming guns for killing people.

x2. Same exact lesson here. Rolled my Wrangler thinking I could drive 45 on a curvy backroad with 4 inches of snow on the road when I was 18. I'm much safer now.

I will say though...I don't know that the trends you are seeing are SUV-specific. When there's bad weather, 90% of the cars on the road around here are SUV's or at least cars with AWD...So if you see an accident, odds are it's going to be an SUV or AWD. Even with that said, I've had plenty of instances where some guy is going 15 miles faster than me in a Civic with rims and a buzz-can exhaust.

I, too have seen clowns in their 4x4's eat trees in my neck of the woods, but it's the occasional goofball learning the hard way. Methinks the OP is projecting. Far more 2wd vehicles on the road when they shouldn't be, spinning in place or stuck in snow banks.

Saw one of these today. Truck in a ditch with the front end smashed. Looked like he turned the wheel and the thing just never budged. I drive some sketchy back roads on my way to work. Today, we got a dusting of snow, but it's cold enough that it stuck to the roads right away. I also had some idiot behind me tailgating me. We went around a turn and I saw him fishtail out and just barely save his Volvo before he went down an embankment. After that, he must have dropped his speed from about 35 to 10 mph.

Yup I almost went off the road the other day. Slow car, scared of snow, driving 20 in the left lane. If your scared move to the right so the rest of us do not have to drive around you.

...aaand had to change his shorts when he got home.

Right. I wish I could have seen video tape of him in the car. Because I guarantee, the minute leading up to the fishtail, I'm sure he was #####ing about me driving so slow. When he went sideways, I started to slow down because I thought I might have to go help him. I bet he was so happy he didn't have to have the guy whose bumper he was riding stop and help him after spinning out.

The other issue is a lot of SUV's aren't 4x4 but idiots think they are
I think in the Northeast, most sold are... Pretty sure the vast majority of 2x4 are sold in the south.
My recent one was FWD or AWD. I took the FWD. When I had my Durango years ago I could choose

There are plenty of pickups for sale here that are not 4x4

Driving on ice or slippery conditions it doesnt matter what you are driving. But man driving through an unplowed sub with the 4*4 SUV is FUN as hell. Going out in crappy conditions on side streeets and plowong through snow purposely is also fun.

Driving super fast on the freeway in 4*4 SUV is stupid

The worst ones are chicks in the smaller suvs. For whatever reason, they always seem to be going the fastest on the road.
