High Fidelity -The Movie (1 Viewer)

just rewatched this a couple weeks ago- commented on it in the movie thread.

usually these gimmicky narrative structure things tend to not have legs... and maybe it's just been that long since I saw it, but I thought it held up really well. first time I'd seen Jack Black on screen (at first viewing in the theater) and I remember thinking he was amazing and not as annoying as I found him on rewatch.

I will now sell 5 copies of The Three EPs by the Beta Band.

The Hulu series was pretty good as well but was a casualty of the pandemic. Zoey Kravitz starred as Rob and Da'Vine Joy Randolph was hilarious in the Frank Black role.

movie is awesome...the Cusack quasi depressed shtick is kinda meh, but it works with this movie. Jack Black's best role for me.
He made me laugh just about every second he was on screen, whether he spoke or not.

Overall I liked the movie, but it reminded me that my musical tastes were pretty much out of step with my peers. Probably #4 of my Desert Island Top 5 Cusak movies.

I actually went out to a record store and bought this CD. It's......not very good. :bag:

Lol. The single he played, Dry the Rain... Is still great. But yeah, the rest didn't grab me the same way.

"Rob, top five musical crimes perpetuated by Stevie Wonder in the '80s and '90s. Go. Sub-question: is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter day sins, is it better to burn out or fade away?"

:lmao:

Not sure why I never saw this one. I tried to see every Catherine Zeta-Jones movie from this time frame, even the awful remake of The Haunting

The other 4? Grosse Point Blank, 2012, runaway jury, say anything.

those 3 for sure. 2012? not for me. I'd have to look back over his roles and movies to fill in the next 2.
