Holds Guys (1 Viewer)

Holds are such a weird stat that they're hard to project. If you check one of the closer resources, the main set-up man is usually a good source of holds. Picking relievers with a lot of appearances last year and decent WHIP and K rates is another way to go. Unless you're in an exceptionally deep league, it's pretty safe to wait on holds during the draft. There's enough depth in the category that there will probably be guys available on the waiver wire all year.

Agreed - I'm going to use the rotoworld depth charts to see who's next in line.

Our league rewards hold and saves equally so I never draft a closer and the last 5 rounds I take holds guys so I can win that category and punt saves (head 2 head). Over the course of the year, a few of my holds guys end up being the closers and I'm competing in both categories.

Thanks for the post either way.

I look at drafting for holds the same way I approach going after potential guys who could be closing at some point this season. M/y only fear is that some of these guys end up going too early for my taste...

Holds are new for us this year, but I'm thinking to load up with Holds guys and play them as much as possible when your starters are off, to try and win the category.

Good strategy?

It depends on your league's IP limits. Good relievers generally have better K/9 and WHIP numbers than starters so punting wins can be a viable strategy in competitive leagues. The problem is that it's not foolproof to pick the top Holds guys.
