holt: losing stud status? (1 Viewer)

since his outstanding performance against the seahawks in week 6, torry has failed to find the endzone and over his last 3 games is 15/171/0. what has happened? the ram offense seems to be balanced pass/rush, so why has holt been so unproductive? he ceratinly has as much talent as d.driver and r.wayne, but now looks like a potential part-time, pick-a-spot kind of RC as opposed to the "start your studs" every week no brainer. at what point do you start to wonder if he's just "another reciever"?

He's around WR #4 in PPR leagues...

I think you gotta cut a guy like him some slack... can't bench him.

WRs are always inconsistant.

I wouldn't bench him under any circumstance.

This thread reminds me of the previous threads about benching Ward and CJ.

The answer is this: Just because a WR who is a stud string a couple of low yardage, no TD games together does not mean he should be downgraded. If you bench him, you'll end up regreting it because you'll miss out on that 200 yard game or that 3 td game.

on pace for 1239/12. he'll most likely be more like 1300/10.

i just can't see him dipping below his annual 1300.

The Rams actually have one of the higher pass to rush ratios in the league. It's just that Martz doesn't coach them anymore, so we have less Mad Mike articles to make us aware of it.

What? Torry Holt doesn't score every week? How dare he not!

See Chad Johnson for your answer.

The OP does have some kind of a point here. Obviously Holt is having a solid season and is a great WR, but he has struggled a little bit lately and this week the Rams are facing a solid Panthers D without their franchise LT Orlando Pace..

If you have a solid option like Housh or Colston it at least deserves some consideration, no ?

So you're advising perhaps substituting a stud for a stud. Hmmm. Novel concept.
All I know is that Colston is scoring a lot of points for my bench, and even if he's having a sensational rookie season he's still not in the same stud tier as Holt Michael Clayton anyone ? :bag:
How much longer are you gonna leave Colston on your bench? Play him or trade him.

IMO Holt will not return to his form from earlir this season. The Pace injury is going to hurt the Rams, especially this week with Goldberg (not the wrestler) starting at LT against Peppers.

i should mention that i have colston, wayne and driver, and you start 3, so it's like snakes in a bag. while driver is the lowest rated guy, with favre throwing like a mad man every week, it's hard to put donald on the bench. colston is the future, so it's between holt and wayne every week, wayne has been the more consistent, maybe not huge like torry in week 6, but better week in week out.

Why? Because he's a rookie? I'm not saying Colston is a better receiver than Holt, but it's tough to argue with his stats. And nothing I've heard will change his situation as the year winds down. As another poster mentioned, it might be time to trade one of these guys since you're lucky enough to have one riding the pine. They're both studs and either of them can hit big on any given Sunday.

Teams are deciding to take Holt away and double-cover him on nearly every play. That's also the reason that Jackson is catching so many checkdowns, and Bruce is also seeing a lot of grabs. What can you do? He is still supremely talented. You gotta put him in your lineup every week and hope for the best.

:goodposting: I learned my lesson last week by benching Chad Johnson. As long as Holt has a pulse, he'll be in my starting lineup.

The announcers made mention of it before the game last week, but teams are just STRONGLY covering Holt. After that Seahawks game, teams realized if you shut him down you have a shot at beating them, and they have since lost. Bruce has been getting open a lot more with all the coverage going to Holt (and he's good), but he is not as likely as Holt to get those 3 TD big play games, so they just blanket Holt. He did come up with some second half grabs to get to 7 catches for 73, so the rest of the season is for Holt to either continue to be pushed out of the games like this, or use his talent to get the ball anyway. They're going to have to adjust something though, because they need him to be productive to win.

He almost got the rams a W in the first game against the Seahawks. Now three losses in a row with Holt blanketed. That seems to be the gameplan right now against the Rams.

I don't think the coverage has anything to do with it. Holt can get open at any time. I think Linehan and/or Bulger are being pu**ies with the play calling and/or decision making over the past 3 weeks. They are not trying to stretch the field. Bulger has been really quick to dump off to Jackson. Hence, their pass-to-rush ratio is still high, but their not trying to get the ball to the WRs. When they do throw deep, Bulger has not been accurate or has telegraphed the pass by zoning in one one WR.

Heh...

I have been trying all year to trade Colston for a solid QB
Perhaps you should instead trade away Holt. You'd get more for the name and you'd keep the better wr.
I like this advice, unfortunately I have had Holt on the block and offered just about any combination of players to everyone. No one is taking the bait, so I have pretty much just given up on it
You're either asking way too much or play with idiots.

Lets just say that its not a league I'm looking to be in next season, and I don't think asking a QB1 for a stud WR is asking too much. All I have been offered is Huard, Bledsoe and Leftwich
