"Home" (Family, Emergency only) Cell Phone Plan (1 Viewer)

What is available for just having an old cell phone activated for home use only? Thinking for when the parents go out and leave the kids home with a sitter without a cell phone. Does google voice have something like this?

Check sprint in your area, may be hard to use from your home if you have the same experience as me.

If you want cell coverage:

If Verizon coverage is better Sprint in your area, consider this company and their $75/year plan ($6.25 per month):

They buy time in bulk from Verizon (all my phones say Verizon coverage) at a discount rate. The only disadvantage is you have to buy a year up front.

If you want to use Google voice through ethernet:

http://www.obihai.com/googlevoice

Works with Google voice, is free after upfront costs (~$40-50 for obi100 adapter) for hardware + ($20+) phone

Only issue is that Google voice could no longer be free (from Google, not Obitalk) and was an issue last year. I wouldn't worry about it as they gave 90 days warning in the past, then just kept it active.

Thanks. We currently use page plus and I noticed they have 100 mins for $10 good for 120 days. Any downside to this plan?

If you have an unlocked or Att gsm phone, H2O wireless has a $10 pay as you go plan that has a 90 day expiration. Its 5 cents per minute for calls and texts. The balance rolls over if you renew before it expires. $3.33 a month or cheaper if you buy a refill through callingmart.
