Honda Navigation (1 Viewer)

Has anyone paid the $200 an updated their Navigation system?  My Pilot is a 2015 and they keep harassing me with offers and guilt trips.  That seems pretty expensive imo.

With Waze or Google Maps no idea why anyone still uses their built in Nav anymore.

It's REALLY convenient and easy.  Huge screen too.  I use it most days when I'm showing houses.
Easier than Waze? That's the first time I've ever heard that before. We have 2013 and it was a requirement, in a year we stopped using it and I haven't used it in close to 4 years. If you use it all the time then I'd say you should update it.

Easier in the sense I just punch in the address, and the giant screen is right in front of my face (It's built in my dash.)  It also allows me to text and drive.

I have a 2008 Accord with NAV.  I have noticed in the past they have reduced the cost of the disc to $99 (in a sales promo flyer I get in the mail from Honda) and I end up paying that ransom fee like every 2 or 3 years.  I will never buy a car with disc based NAV which I have to pay for upgrades again, it's a greedy cash grab on Honda's part imho.

I never use the built-in-nav in my car. Waze or Apple Maps are way too easy. Especially with the Apple watch showing upcoming turns with wrist-taps alerting to upcoming turns. Don't even really need to look at the phone anymore.

IMO built in NAV is kinda like buying a smartTV with built in Apps.. things change so quickly it's better to have a more software-based solution IMO.

I thought that AppleCar or the Android version will actually use the mobile device map app for directions.

Yes, something like that would be something I'd consider using. Easily updated, pulls real-time traffic & fuel prices, live web connection (text/email) through an existing device and data plan. That said, I'm really loving the haptic turn-by-turn with the watch.

My hoinda civic - plug into USB - launch Andoid Auto - Full screen :unsrue:
I didn't realize I couldn't do that. :Chappelle:

I never plugged my phone into the USB in there before.

when you use real paper maps you help support the american timber industry and you also look just a little piratey which makes the ladies think you got a bad boy streak and maybe they can change you which is intriguing and probably gets the papershakers to stop and notice you so look paper maps they are awesome take that to the bank bromigos

custom no thanks fancy boy i will use my regular gas station map and then not fold it up right well i swear at it a lot like a regular blue collar american thank you very much but hey you enjoy your fancy wicker furniture custom map boy take that to the bank brochacho

Apparently you can't  :bag:

For 2017, Pilot EX and above trims will now feature Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™

I have a 2010 Toyota 4 Runner with a disc based Nav system.  They never bug me with promotions to upgrade, but I find myself "off roading" quite often driving though large expanses of blank space on the screen.  I don't use the system for step by step directions at all, but it is nice having the large screen map on the dash...helps to anticipate when a certain turn/particular street is getting near.

Yea pretty sure these were only available on few American models since late 2016. Android Auto is awesome, it pretty much is a screen emulator with my phone connected to it. I don't have it yet unfortunately but saw a demo of a unit at a local shop recently. I hope more car manufacturers adopt these sooner than later.

Yeah my 2016 has it.

I thought it started in 2015 for all Hondas

I was hoping navigation guy would pop in this thread and have an answer to all of our problems.  I miss 2005.

Be careful with Android Auto if you don't have unlimited data. Noticed the navigation was eating up alot of data on my wife's phone and had to turn it off. Think it might still be eating some with some automatic setting I need to dig into.

Weird. I use it all the time and my maps data is pretty low
