Horsemen & Gamblers - Do you own a Pony? (1 Viewer)

draw is out for the final, Phat gets the 4 hole and his race winner draws the 7.  ML 8-1 and he loses Stratton for Brent Holland, still a top 10 driver.  gotta hope the 7 tries for the front and there is a bit of a duel with the 1 & the 2.  the 3 doesn't seem strong.  race 6 at yonkers and the purse is $110,500-.  he won 3k his last start, just about his monthly bill.
I was going to ask why Stratton was getting off but I see he's on the fave

So, i am out of all my horses right now, but stupidly have an itch again.  Got a recent email to buy shares of new NZ shipper, Poppy Drayton N, a lightly raced 5 yr old mare.  She is 3-3 in the states, with a recent paramutual win at saratoga harness in a low class.  She hasn’t raced, nor earned much, so is eligible in lower classes, where she should make some hay.  A move to Yonkers and maybe open mare races is likely down the road.

I'm afraid the sport is dying.  The heat here on Santa Anita here is unbelievable.  You have a Hall of Fame trainer in Jerry Hollendorfer banned from almost every track in the country - likely as a scapegoat.  The game is controlled by vets giving milkshakes, lasix and who knows what.  Best vet wins.  PETA screaming.  In California we're down to 3 or 4 days a week because every race has 6 horse fields (Del Mar the only exception but even they have cut a day a week and a race a day). Who wants to play 6 horse fields with 4 of them 5/2 or less?  No longer advantageous from a tax perspective to own horses.  I used to be a regular player but have bet 2 days this year.  I wouldn't be investing now.

i am horseless right now.  really been looking for some fbg partners to grab more than 1% of a 2 yr old.  but i need guys that really want to be in it and are willing to handle some monthly bills.  no one seems interested.

I miss harness racing. I grew up at the track with my grandfather, and followed it religiously for 25 years. It's been a long time, but at one time I owned shares in several ponies.

I used to map bloodlines for our horses, prior to purchase, and me and one of my best mates used to be responsible for selecting horses based on their physical attributes and builds.

We also wagered heavily, using a combination system of statistical analysis (Super Vector Regression is probably the closest comparable method) based on 25-ish or so data points, form data, warm up times, and a lot of our own data points collected at practices and information from stables. It was a cleaner sport back then though. Cocktails and medications existed, but not as much as I have heard rumors about now.

Sigh... a world long gone...

If I could afford it I'll be all over it
