"Hot Takes" - Food Edition (1 Viewer)

I think it's more of a joke.  I don't know many people who really think Wawa is overly awesome, other than the fact that you can get everything there.  And they are everywhere.  It's kind of one of those things that out of towners will be like "What's up with all these stores called 'Wawa'?"  Then we act like we love it and pretend to get upset if you question it's existence.

Like I said, I would venture to guess that probably everyone in the SE PA and S NJ probably goes to a Wawa 3 to 4 times a week.  No exaggeration.  But I don't think the majority of people are defending it like it seems.
I wrote to my Representative begging him to convince Wawa not to close down one of the originals in my hood.  They’re that awesome.

i still haven’t fully recovered from them shutting it down. 😢

And if it were more than an acquired taste, it would spread beyond that small region. Just because it's big in a region doesn't mean it's great. And while I haven't had it, the numbers are on my side that bacon is hands down better.
Agree - I’ve had po’ boys and see them on menus all over the place.  Never heard of a Taylor pork roll until this thread.

I would say "not as good."  "Worse" makes it sound like they're bad.  Either way, Chick-fil-A fries are the greatest and there's no debate about it.
Only if cooked properly.  I think most of the time they are slightly undercooked hench not that good.

Will be having a major Bacon and Pork Roll eat fest this weekend

Double Smoked Bacon - Sweet Apple Smoked  Bacon  - Possibly Pepper Bacon

Pork Roll - Pork Roll w/ Slice of Cooper Sharp - Pork Roll Sammitch on English Muffin

Only if 5 Guys are cooked all the way which happens for me about 20% of the time when I order them regular. I have to order them extra crispy to get them close to right. If they are right, they are fantastic. If they are undercooked, they are a travesty.

You seem like a guy that knows things.  Got a listing for sub sandwich chains?  I had a Jersey Mike's sub recently and it was pretty good.  Never had Firehouse Subs, so wondered where it fell on the grid.

Not a fan of the Firehouse Subs chain - they have a couple of good subs, but I think they are over-priced.

Disclaimer: my list is based on where I've been, YMMV

Arby's potato cakes kill - and they are almost always made when ordered - so hot and crispy.

I’d put Jersey Mike’s at the top, at least their cold subs.  Hot subs I might go potbelly #1

Not a bad list but we've gotten to the point where we don't even bother getting subs from anywhere but Publix.

Jimmy John's has good rolls but they're kind of skimpy with the meat.

You had me at Cooper Sharp. A wonderful underrated cheese.

nah, im doing it right. i have every grade from amber to very dark.

i hate maple treats. maple ice cream. maple syrup. i just dont like maple. it doesn't taste right.
It's all good.  I find that maple is one of those flavors that you either really love...or really don't.  I just don't like the chemical aftertaste of fake syrups.

Awesome sandwich...but I'll take a well executed Cuban or Lobster Roll over it any day.
I think lobster roll is the most overrated sandwich going. The roll is nothing and you take really good meat and cover it up.

I'd rather have a lobster tail by itself.

We are witnessing the dawning of a golden age of brussels sprouts.  For most of my lifetime brussels sprouts were an earthy, bitter, mushy vegetable that nobody liked except health-crazed hippies.  Suddenly, in the past year, every restaurant is serving them as a crispy, salty, bacony plate of yumminess.
2015 wants its hot take back.

I thought this stuff ran in your veins.
ya, i always get this look of being totally insane when i mention it.

i just cant get myself to like it. that being said, I dont generally like sugar. i dont drink pop, barely eat candy, and anything "sugar coated" is off my list.

heck, i only use milk in my coffee. no sugar, no sweetener

Despite Iron Sheik's assertion, Buc-ee's is not a truck stop. In fact, they allow no trucks. And Wawa is disappointing in the South.  It's like a Laredo Taco Co. with no Tacos.  Let me repeat that again. No Tacos.  WTF?
We really do need Taco Trucks at every corner!

Slice potatoes into French fries, and place into cold water so they won't turn brown while you prepare the oil.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the oil is heating, sift the flour, garlic salt, onion salt, (regular) salt, and paprika into a large bowl. Gradually stir in enough water so that the mixture can be drizzled from a spoon.

Dip potato slices into the batter one at a time, and place in the hot oil so they are not touching at first. The fries must be placed into the skillet one at a time, or they will clump together. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
