Hounding Commish doesn't practice what he preaches..... (1 Viewer)

Ok... I signed up in a slow draft league some months ago; $150 buy in / 28 rounds / 14 Teams / 12 hrs per pick / needs to be done in say 3 weeks. The commish hounded us to give him our phone #s so if it our pick and where not in the Draft room we could make the pick though him.... and to ofcourse pre-draft a round ahead so the draft moves at a decent pace. The 2nd night comes and we're stunk @1.12 because the guy is MIA... commish uses the guys cheatsheet and makes the pick... which we were all ok with. Commish then wants to cut down the timer to atleast half (6 hrs) that day. The draft already started; a lot of us worked around this thing and half the league voted no. oh yeah, the guy does call when hes on and its your pick.

Ok... its day 5... 6th round... one of the managers lives in Hawaii... 3 or 4 hr time difference from the commish and we know that this manager isn't avalible in the mornings. Its 8 am for the commish... commish has pick 6.13; the Hawaii manager is on the clock at 6.11. Commish sees that a) this manager won't pick until 3 or 4 more hrs into the day and b) the owner inbetween them has already pre-drafted.

What does he do; "I'll check back during lunch and see if its my pick." I say "dude... u can't pre-select 3 guys before you leave?" He responds "too much on the line here."

WTF... and you know... a couple of managers have gotton screwed by their pre-draft list; ended up taking 2 RBs when they wanted an RB / WR combo.

That is a pretty hefty league fee to play with a bunch-o-tools. Normally they are free over at yahoooooooo.

If he wants to take the full 12 hours he has a right to. There isnt any rule that says you need to set a predraft list. Just because the commish was hurrying the rest of you guys doesnt mean anyone had to rush their picks. Ill admit it sucks that he didnt set 3 players for auto pick, but by league rule you all have the right to do the same thing. Im not sure what the big complaint is

Most leagues have the 12 or 24 hours to allow for emergencies and work. It's common courtesy to make your pick as soon as you can. Everyone should be able to take a couple minutes a couple times a day to check to see if they are on the clock. If they can't, then maybe another hobby is in order.

So by the time the Hawaii guy picks, which is 3-4 hours like you said, that makes it 11-12 o clock. Right about lunch time. I fail to see the problem here.

I understand that and it sucks that owners sometimes have to wait until close to the end of the timer for the guy before them to make a pick, but there is a timer going for each pick, and the owners have a right to take their time. Every league goes through this that Ive been a part of(Im in 8 leagues this year). It is just something that has to be accepted. If youre in league where all the owners are on the ball and make the picks quickly or always set a predraft/auto pick then consider yourself lucky because usually there are a few slacker owners in every league

why can't the commish just practice what he preaches and pre-select 3 guys... we have now been waiting 30 minutes for him...I agree that everyone has the right to take all 12 hrs and make no bones about that... but if your the one thats going to tell people to pre-draft before u goto bed and actually call people when their pick is up and their not online..... then please be an example to us and pre-select 3 ####ing players before u goto work for the day.

No. You're overreacting - it's not like he's taking 5 hours to make his pick.Pre-drafting is a lot harder at the turns. It's nice to see what positions are going so that you can evaluate what may be left on the way back.As far as "setting an example for you," he's the commish, not your mentor. Get over it.

Let me guess, you have the pick after the commish.
nope.. I picked 2 before him... I won't be picking until late night anyway
commish has pick 6.13; the Hawaii manager is on the clock at 6.11. Commish sees that a) this manager won't pick until 3 or 4 more hrs into the day and b) the owner inbetween them has already pre-drafted.

thanks for the chuckle, studs. Can't wait to see the next bollywood movie.

Sounds to me like this commish should have NEVER started this league or be the commish

I'd seriously consider voting this guy out (if those other owners are THAT pissed) and

start over.

why?I'm missing something I guess.I think it stinks to be the only one predrafting and not have the benefit of knowing who went before your pick.I think it stinks to always be waiting on one guy to draft when everyone else predrafts.Like I said above, I hate both sides of this, things should be uniform throughout IMO.However, what's so awful that everyone in here is wanting to key his car and all that jazz? It seems more annoying than something that would make you downright furious at someone. What am I missing?
