House of Abuse (1 Viewer)

I recently moved into a new place and it seems like an abusive house. Three generations--grandfather watches grandson while young father parties and fights with his girlfriend.  Everyone is living on workman's comp/unemployment.  The first night I heard the father and his girlfriend fighting, I thought it was a break-up.  Nope, it turns out that is just how they live and these fights are a near daily thing.  Looking at another guy in a store was a catalyst for one such fight.

I hear the grandfather yelling at the grandson a lot.  The kid seems mild tempered.  Sometimes I hear what sounds like the grandson being hit and he cries out but then everything seems normal later.  I suppose this is simply nature at play and I should be looking for a new place so that I don't have to be around it.  I don't believe there is anything I can do to make the situation better.

situations like that always get better after a whi....hold on..............#####, change that channel back! i SAID....don't make me come over there and...........gotta go...
Pretty accurate.  Right before posting, I heard the boy getting whooped because he had been talking while the grandfather was on the phone.  I haven't witnessed the beatings, just hear things banging around.  And I don't see bruises.  Maybe they aren't that physical.  Certainly not a healthy environment to grow up in, though.

I thought the title was a new horror series coming out.

Good luck man, I would get out of there and then report any child abuse you are aware of.

I would worry that any report would do more harm than good.  The kid's mother is in jail.  The grandfather has primary custody and he acts calm around me.  He expresses a lot of caring thoughts about his grandson.  This morning I talked to him about his son's volatile relationship and he shared his disappointment and said he may have to kick him out.  He sort of ignored my suggestion that this is a learned behavior.  The shouting usually happens in Spanish when I'm in my room with the door closed so I can't be certain of what's going on.  I will try to question him about his treatment of the kid.  Assuming the kid is not being beaten, I figure this situation may be better than whatever my meddling and CPS would lead to.

Why did you end up living with these people in the first place?
Lack of options.  I could see the red flags beyond the facade when I visited but I had been living in my tent and wasn't cut out for the homeless life.  Having to carry all my stuff around or worry about it being stolen was the hardest part.  And the sleeping wasn't great.  So I checked out a shelter but seeing people freak out in the lobby deterred me from taking the bed that they offered.  Most desirable situations aren't willing to rent to a homeless guy with no job.  This is subsidized housing and I'm paying the largest share for the least space.  Oh, and the grandfather was coughing incessantly when I came to look at the place.  This was 5 days ago.  He's anti-vax and insisted it was from leaving his window open the night before.  I figured he had covid.  His test came back positive yesterday.  I had already started experiencing mild symptoms before he told me.  Oh well.

Must be Friday!
