How has your league changed over the years? (1 Viewer)

i was wondering how your league has changed over the year.

Has your league changed as FF has changed?

do you feel FF leagues should change as the NFL changes?

scoring system?

# of team?

roster limits?

redraft to keeper to dynasty?

IDP?

changes my main dynasty league has made over 10 years.

1. started off as a TD league only with 6 teams.

2. went to a 10 team 2 player keeper

3. than 4 player keeper

4. 7 years ago to full dynasty.

5. We expanded to 12 teams but went back to 10 the following year.

6. This year I have proposed to add a flex position, it looks like it will happen.

7. from 4 PTs for pass TDs to 6 PTs

as commish I am also way looking for ways to make the league better and more interesting

Extremely little. Heading into my 12 year, all we've done is amended little things here and there and further clarified existing stuff. I consider myself extremely lucky. We were dynasty before dynasy was cool. In fact, I clearly remember back in '97 learning that hardly any fantasy football leagues kept their entire roster from year to year. Up until then, I just thought dynasty was how fantasy football was played.

TD only to simple performance.Total points to head to head. (the end of the noob years.)10 to 12 to 14 teams.-we have a fun, active league. COulndt really tell friends that they couldnt join. The increase in teams led us to a flex position, QB/RB/WR/TE, really love this as there are a number of ways to build a competitive team. You dont need 2 stud backs, but it helps. We also only keep 14 on the rosters, start 8. Lots of action on the waiver wire. Big entrance fee, but give out about 1/2 the money each year to weekly high scorers. Keeps everyone interested the entire season. No keepers, the draft is one of the best weekends of the year for everyone that can make it, we dont want to water down the talent.

Our league has been around for 13 seasons and here are a few of the changes that were the most note worthy

--Went from 6 pt TDs to Pts for TD's based on Length - this helped QB's scoring and made them a bit more important

-- Became a 3 player keeper league w/ a free agent period so that we could start a month or so earlier (we are all addicts). We only allow players to be kept for 3 seasons, so the draft is always interesting.

-- Went from Pen and Paper to PC to CBSSportsline to MFL

-- Went from 14 teams to 12 and limited the number of playoff teams to 4

-- Went from allowing the standard "pro set" offense to allowing five different formation sets. This was one of our favorite rules being that every owner has a different theory on how to build a team.

Leagues lasting this long I think are rare, couldn't say for sure though, so probably not enough time to have much change. My current one is in 4th year, had another that lasted 7. Only notable on this one is went from FFLM to MFL. Scoring format etc almost exactly same and (unfortunately) will probably stay so. eg I would like to go with a keeper or 3 but some people are dead set against it.

I like to tweak my leagues so it stays fresh so owner stay interested. Owners in the dynasty format can get disinterested if they feel their team is not going to be competitive for a year or 2.

Agreed, we had talks of going to a full dynasty but it got voted down for this reason. Going to a keeper league keeps the draft fresh, allows for player movement (LT will be on a new team this season in our league) and will keep most owners hopeful year to year.

Heading into our 11th season this year. These are the major changes we've had in that time:

- Went from 10 in 2 divisions to 12 teams in 3 divisions (3rd yr)

- changed starting requirement to eliminate the 'flex' position (3rd yr)

- moved from redraft to keeper (4) league (5th year)

- moved from Keep 4 league to a modified dynasty (keep as many as you want, more than 8 loses 1st round pick) (7th year)

- went from pen and paper to FLM to Fanball (looking into a move to MFL this season)

Can you elaborate?

We're heading into our 16th season this year.

Scoring system: TD-only since 1992, and, yes, we're sticking with the FF equivalent of Betamax. We give double pts for any score over 50 yds

# of teams: Has increased from 8 to 12 (expansion years in 1995, 2000)

Roster sizes: 16 since the beginning, 3 keepers each year since the beginning.

Even though the internet has made complex scoring systems a viable option, this league's rules will probably remain consistent until we all keel over. We're all in other leagues with standard scoring systems or IDP, but this one preserves the old-school FF feel.

I love hearing about leagues that have lasted over a decade. Those are the ones where winning bragging rights are more important than any $.

This will be our 17th year.

In general the scoring system has gradually evolved from a Touchdown only league to one that pretty much mirrors WCOFF scoring.

Unfortunately, the prevalence of fantasy based information on the hosting websites has improved the overall skills of the guys who would otherwise be clueless. It's tougher to snag free agents when every dope in the league has a "top free agent pickups" article rammed down their throat every time they log on to the site.

It's been one of the best ways to keep everyone in touch through the years though. Keeps people connected as families grow and it becomes more difficult to talk to each other.
