How long do we live on a name? (1 Viewer)

It's where dynasty owners get into trouble rather than seeing the facts, such as decline in performance and more injuries than earlier in their careers. It's easy to remember the past and hope for the same results in the future. This is true for not only for players, but also defenses. How many of you really feel Baltimore will be a great defense this year? I see that FBGs still has them in the top 10, yet they still ranked about 23rd in most leagues in 2007. I can see them needing more Geritol as the years pass. Rather than go into all the names, the real trick is to know when to say when, yet not many know "when is". It's easier to just ride it out until the end rather than maximize value by trading at the right time. Not everyone likes to look at this, because not everyone likes the hassle of it all. I can understand that. However, I feel that is a very big missing ingredient in the minds of a lot of dynasty owners.

Some dynasty owners feel all they have to do is draft well and play the WW. That might be true in some cases, but those who trade well are leaps and bounds ahead of the good drafters and WW hounds. I'm not saying that's always the case, but I bet it is most of the time. There are multiple reasons why owners don't trade well. Some are afraid of making a mistake (being taken in a trade). Others get lackadaisical with what they perceive as a good team rather than seeing holes in their team and trying to improve it. Some are afraid to take risks. If they can't win the trade in a landslide they don't trade, thus hurting their team long term. Others only see what they want rather than seeing both teams and what can get a deal done. I'm not saying anything that most of you don't already know, but how many of you (and me) are trying to get better? It's a proven fact that the best traders win in dynasty.

I agree trading is very important in dynasty especially if you are in the win now mode. still takes some luck to win it all.

Sadly, this describes my FF career to a tee. I have won my division 4 straight years in a league that's 5 years old, only to get whaled in the playoffs. I have yet to make it to the SB, and have a total of 0 postseason wins while posting a 39-17 record during the regular season during the last 4 years.I am the most active owner in my keeper league, bar none. In fact, half of the league doesn't even visit our site in the offseason. Half of my trade offers go unchecked for months at a time. But this won't stop me from making FF a year-round event. The early bird gets the worm, and this saying is true in FF. When draft day comes each year, I feel leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. Every pick you make should have a reason, even the last round. Did a veteran player fall through the cracks? Did a rookie buried on the depth chart show signs of things to come during TC? The smart FF owner is one that sees draft day/waiver wire pickups as times to stash trade bait in order to upgrade his starting lineup.

i was in the same boat for the first 7 years in my main dynasty league of 11 years. very active during the offseason. made trades that I thought would help me win now just to get hit with bad luck in the playoffs and SB. But I stayed with it and finally win it all in 2004, got the monkey off my back. I have won my division 5 years in a row, had the best regular season record 5 years in a row, played in 4 of the last 7 SBs and won the SB in 2004 and 2007, I am 52-14 the last 5 years. I do believe in dynasty the most active/aggressive owners will win out in the long haul.
