How long does your LIVE (or mostly live) draft take? (1 Viewer)

Just curious how long most people's drafts took.

Just state:

Number of teams, number of rounds... and possibly any extenuating circumstances like "3 people on autodraft" or "2 people online" or "Jimmy's a ####### and take 10 min per pick even in round 1"

I have 2 live drafts:

12 teams, 16 rounds - 11 guys live, 1 online - about 4 hours 10 minutes average over the past 4 years.

other draft

10 teams, 18 rounds - 7 live, 3 online - about 3 hours 35 min average over last 4 years.

3 live drafts....

1- 12 teams, 16 rounds, all online - takes about 2 hours

1- 12 teams, 16 rounds, all live - takes about 3 1/2 hours

1- 12 teams, 31 rounds, all live - takes way too long, its been as bad as 7 hours before, we switched to online this year, hopefully it will be more like 4 hours this year.

12 team live draft, 18 rounds - usually one or two teams draft on-line. We usually take about 5-6 hours but take some breaks in between. It's more of a party for us.

it's generally a party for us as well, but sometimes you just want it to end.. especially as commissioner so you can go have some fun and drink more.

16 Team Live Draft (15 Rounds).

Used to take 4+ hours thanks to a few mental midgets who would take 3-5 minutes per pick, every pick. These are, invariably the same guys who show up late for the draft and get stuck sitting a mile away (bar draft) and yell "WHO?!" after EVERY. SINGLE. PICK. Meanwhile there were 4 of us on the tail end of the draft that were tripping over each other to get our picks on the board. Our 8 pick turn would take 2-3 mins max. Then we'd have 20-30 minutes to wait before we'd pick again.

Last year I had enough and brought a PA. I also enforced a strict 2 min draft clock (using Draft dominator). Every pick that was taken I would announce over the PA. This helped things move quicker but dip####s would still yell "WHO!?" after every pick. By the 3rd round I'd announce the pick... then announce the pick again 5 seconds later "For the deaf bastards in the back who can't pay attention". Did that for one round and everyone made fun of them enough that they would run up to the board if they really didn't hear the name (usually due to not paying attention).

10 Team Live Draft - 15 Rounds : Sub 2 hours. Usually closer to 90 mins. Very lax draft.

12 team, 16 round draft takes about 4-5 hours for us. 9 draft live while 3 others on the league draft page.

Amazes me that some guys think thats too long and want the draft to wrap up in 2 hours. Isn't this one of the best days of the year? What's the rush for it to end.

For 12 team drafts, expect an average of 10 minutes per round (2 minute time limit for picks).

The last online "slow" (so slow it was painful) draft with a 12 hour time limit (clock off between midnight and 6 AM) took about a month. It was monumental. Almost like your favorite baseball team losing 100 games in a season. Or being a Jacksonville Jaguars fan.

In reasonable online drafts (serpentine), 90 minutes to 3 hours for drafts with 16 to 25 rounds.

10 team, 53 man rosters = 530 rostered players (subtract the players already under contract). 100% auction, with a 15 second timer between bids, that drops to 7 seconds eventually toward the last half of the auction.

This is our leagues 20th draft (8th in our new dynasty league auction format)

give or take, 300 auctions per draft.

All live, in one room. On sat. aug. 3 we started at 9 am and finished at 10pm with break from 2-4p. However, we have had years where the auction was from 13-17 hours. It is grueling.

Yes, we do have IDP's....11 starters on D.

It's a haul, but it is a blast, too.

in about 3-4 live drafts

all 12 teams

21 rounds

usually about 3 hours and change each

best one....nobody in a huge hurry....this is the #### we wait for all year as geeks of this hobby......why rush....usually schedule breaks after certain rounds to reload on food and booze and talk smack breaking down the draft board...

Sunday of Labor day weekend at the pool clubhouse in our subdivison....family friendly....BBQ....wives and kids invited to swim and party while we draft inside....everybody hangs out afterwards.....great kind of end of summer/back to school/football season is here party....wives and kids even look forward to it....can't wait....

12 team, 14 rounds - usually 9 or 10 show up with the other two or three drafting over Skype. Usually done in about 2-and-a-half hours... once we actually get started.

Live draft at the commish's house. It's the Saturday morning before Labor Day. Saturday morning means... no drinking. I don't drink, and neither do many others there (Idaho... it's like the growth on Utah's neck). So there's none of this "Once we're done, we can drink more." And Saturday morning means no desire to drag it out since everyone has to head back home to mow the lawn or appease the wife. It's still a blast, but not the party everyone else seems to have.

Sure, not saying that no one ever gets antsy as it drags on, especially at the end when people are taking defenses and kickers. We party afterwards as well so it's not like the day/night just ends once the draft does. We used to take a longer break after Round 4 or 5 to BBQ and eat - but the last two years we've held it in a bar/restaurant so the food is just there. Now the breaks are a little shorter, i.e. smoke breaks, etc.

Usually 3-4 hours (Live). That's if everyone shows up.

I did run back-2-back drafts one year. Lasted about 10 hours total. Will never make that mistake again.

12-team, 28-round IDP draft where every owner is live ... we usually finish in the 3-1/2 to 4 hour range. We don't mess around.

I'm starting to think I have wildly underestimated the time of our draft. Thanks a lot, guys... just one more thing for me to pay attention to. If I miss a sleeper because I'm eyeing the clock, I'm blaming YOU!

it used to be one of the best days of the year.

But as you get older, it gets less good it seems.

Used to be some really fun parties with lots of shenanigans. Now more and more its guys showing up saying they hadn't thought once about football since the superbowl. A guy last year got the first pick, looked at the list and was like... good gosh, i have the #1 pick and i haven't even heard of this guy on the cheetsheet for #1 (Arian Foster).

Guys show up late, leave early, tell me they have to wait until they get paid to pay their dues (it's $80, bro.. and you've known this was coming for months), never make a transaction during the season....

Sometimes I wonder why i try to hold this league of misfits together sometimes.

All smack talk ended years ago... i might as well be playing in a league with people i don't know.

If this is what getting closer to 40 feels like, i hate it. I really don't think i have it in me to run this for more than 3-4 more years.

12 teams 17 rounds; We have a "liberal" 3 min clock. Usually just over 3 hours which includies a 30 min break for pee, food. pee and more drinks. Most guys are prepared.

12 teams/ 16 rounds, 5 minute clock that only needs to be enforced 1-2 times per draft. Usually everyone is there but there have been a few years where 1-2 guys draft online. In a buddies' garage, so it's fairly quiet and private. Everyone in it old friends that don't see each other much anymore. Most of the guys are really into it and take it pretty seriously. Starts at noon the Sat before Labor Day. Everyone goes camping together that night. Lots of drinking, eating and smoking. We take 2-3 breaks during the course of it.

Average time was around 3.5-4 hours. The year we started the host's bachelor party immediately after the draft we ripped through it in a bit over 2 hours as everyone was in a hurry to party hard. But then...

The host made a draft board, which includes all the keeper picks and traded picks. Because of that thing, last year's draft took over 5 hours, with people moving up and down and trading picks wildly. It was awesome.

I fly to Minn from Cali every year for the draft. it's one of the best days of my year. Some of the guys complain about the length. but not me. That sucker could go 10 hours and I'd love every boozy, smoky, ####-talkin minute of it.

12 team live auction

About 6-7 hours. We instituted party fouls for screwing up during the draft which tends to increase how long it takes.

12 teams, 21 rounds - used to get all 12 teams there for the live draft for many years, but last 3 or 4 years there have been 2-3 drafting on line. We take a break after the 10th round. Usually takes 3.5 to 4 hours to finish.

10 team, 13 rounds usually 2 1/2 to 3 hours. This is live in person with booze and food.

16 teams, 20 rounds (though some lost picks for keepers make it shorter than that). In the past we had no time limit, and one year it went for 7 or 8 hours, which was painful by the end and a lot of people were well and truly over it. Last year I think it must have gone for about 4 or 5 hours, which is ideal. This year we are trying an enforced 1 minute time for every pick, which should speed things right up (I think we had 2 mins last year) - sounds ok, but in reality might be not enough time as those second go quick when you are on the clock.

12 teams, 12 rounds (6 keepers/team) - Live draft hosted by previous years runner-up. Local league, everyone must attend. The draft used to average over 4 hours, but in recent years we've honed it down to about 3-1/2, give or take a few minutes. Last year half the guys had to attend another draft immediately afterwards and it only took 3 hours, but that won't be the case this year. We use DD to track draft and set timer to 2 minutes. If a pick isn't made in that 2 minutes, next drafter is free to go ahead and make his pick. Use paper draft board with stickers also. Picks are official when stuck on board. We also break mid-draft for eats, and smokes for those that indulge. This is one of only two times the entire league gets together all year. It's a great party!

12 team redraft. 15th year. All 12 teams draft live. Private upstairs with bar on 2nd floor of bar. Draft takes us 3-3.5 hours. We have a time clock set at one minute. If you go over your time you have to do a shot of warm rack tequila and it is reset. So if you take 3.5 minutes to decide a pick you do three shots. Keeps it moving.

Live in person draft. No electronics. Big draft board that is updated with each pick. Everyone brings there own notes and players lists. 16 teams, 16 rounds. The 16th pick is a keeper pick..if you didn't keep your previous year's 16th pick.

Oh and it is an all day thing. We make a bbq/dinner out of it. It isn't held until a week before the season. No reason to have drafts any sooner.

12 teams, rarely more than three hours, however many rounds we get done before half the league is in the bag. Finish up with waivers when we sober up during the week.

Usually eleven to thirteen rounds.

I quit all of my non live drafts. The draft is the best part.

1 live draft

$200 Auction Keeper + 14 rounds + 12 teams + 4-5 hours + 1 wife who's in it (mine, and she's a shark) + endless ##### talking = the best day of the year!

I like this idea!

16 teams x 28 picks (or 24 in some seasons) 11am - 5pm. +/-

We are always at a place with private room, draft boards up for each team, food, drinks and a waitress.

That's right at 50 seconds per pick.

12 teams-15rounds. Pick order begins at 2pm (draw each pick from Mr. Irrelevant all the way up to #1 using pingpong balls drawn lottery style from the fantasy trophy). Draft begins in ernest around 3 after big board is all set up. Usually done around 5:30 or 6. Generally a break to order pizza around 4 or so and you eat while you draft. First 2 rounds have 5 minute pick limits and than 2 minutes after.

One year a buddy of mine was on the ropes in the 12th round having done four shots of warm rack tequila in a row. Went over the time, picked a player already picked, clock ran out again, picked another player already picked and finally in a cry for mercy shouted out "Browns Defense!"

16 team, 20 rounds. 2 minute timer.

It's a whole day for our league. We golf in the morning, draft and food all afternoon, and then poker until late in the night. The draft itself is usually between 4-5 hours with keepers.

Everyone seems to be posting roughly the same statistics, so I guess I'll add a few quirks about our draft.

12 Team - 18 Rounds - 2 min clock

We take a break after the 6th and 12th to eat, drink, and play a few rounds of Drunk Bat. If you don't know what that is, it's an oversized kid's wiffle ball bat that we cut the bottom of the handle off and poke a small hole halfway up the shaft. Thus making it a huge beer bong. Pour a beer in, crush the can pancake flat, chug. Everyone counts. The number of seconds equal the number of spins you have to do (think dizzy bat from summer camp). Once you're done spinning the can is pitched to you and take a swing. We record the distance winner and ridicule those who fall in the bushes. I know this doesn't have anything to do with FF, but since we're on the subject.......

A couple other "penalties" we have are if you ask, "Is Player A still available?" Shot. The most egregious error is drafting a player whose already been selected. That comes with a penalty of a game we lovingly call, "Finish What You Got." It doesn't end well. But every year like clockwork, a few magazine-wielding degenerates will forget to cross off a name on the cheat sheet, and BAM!

We also impose a shot penalty for the first D/ST and Kicker selected. Why? Because we can. Hope this helped.

Oh, and it usually takes 4-5 hours.
