How long have you played fantasy football? (1 Viewer)

1993. My first pick was Barry Sanders, after he had scored 20 TDs the previous year. He scored 3 for me in 93.

The next year I went WR/WR with Andre Rison and Chris Carter, and subsequently sucked.

Started in 1995. Had played fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball for a few years, but didn't run across fantasy football until a work league started in 1995. Played in that league until it folded before the 2007 season. Once I found fantasy football, I fairly quickly lost interest in the other fantasy sports.

I really got hooked in my second season, when my team had to win its final 6 regular season games to make the playoffs and ended up winning the title, which started a string of 3 titles in 4 seasons. Later branched out into mutiple leagues, including dynasty.

Good memories. :potkettle:

I've been in the same 16 team league in Denver since 1987. Still allows 2nd QBs as a flex, making it essentially a 2 QB league - which I am convinced is a better game if anyone would ever try it. I went to a Thanksgiving dinner in '86 where a distant relative who lives in distant Denver (3.5 hour drive - no flights) told me and I lept in that next season. Haven't missed a live draft since. The relative still plays as well - the only thing we have in common. Many, many other leagues since, of course, and baseball added somewhere around 1992. I should have learned a lot more by now than I seem to have.

1995. Curtis martin's rookie season. Made the playoffs that year (after I think I took brunell with my first round pick...and was laughed out of the room).
Same here 1995.And I remember CuMar as my favorite draft pick (his rookie year where he scored about 15 TDs) - pulled him out of the pre-season newspaper stats which was my 'shark training wheels' back then.
same here and cumar was my rookie pick. Also had the ORIGINAL Curt Warner as my first pick that year.

I then backed it up with Aikman and Novacheck in the second and third. :pickle:

18 years. 17 years in same league with 4 original owners, commish of that league for those 17 years. Have about 17 serious leagues(mix of dynasty, idp, redraft, and auction). My 1st, 1st round pick in this league Haywood Jeffires, before I learned about all the stud running back theory. For the last 6 years, this league has used the auction method to distribute players, had to drag some kicking and crying, but none would ever go back.

As I said earlier, 95 was my first year, but most of yall make me feel like I just got popped out of the womb. I remember it going something like Emmitt-Rice-Favre the first few picks, but jeez, as an 11 yr old, if someone said CuMart then I woulda thought it was the next K-MartIt is amazing how FF has progressed, and yinz guys who started in the 80's, whyd you wait so long to get down on it online?!?

Well before I even knew how to turn a computer on

USA Today ran a fantasy football challenge contest in their newspaper. I think it was early 80's

I remember playing in a golf tournament in the UP - that's the Upper Peninsula of Michigan setting my lineup over the phone system before cell phones. One week I made the overall top 50 and received a purple fantasy challenge t-shirt...still got it.

Soon after I joined a league and have been playing ever since. I remember drafting Andre "bad moon" Rison once. I remember when Berman first started as well.

Been a member here for quite some time as well. Because of this kind of information our team has seen paydirt year in and year out.

I have noticed that it takes a lot of energy to play well. Thought about dropping out this year because of how much energy I put into this. I'll be 50 soon...wondering how many over 50 are still playing

Started in 95. On day of draft, a guy at work asked if I liked football and wanted to fill last spot in league. Only knew big name or local team players. Went to bar with a TV guide that had a listing of players! Remember drafting Elway in first, Barry Sanders, Barry Foster (who held out), Rashaan Salaam (rookie), Dave Megget, Tim Brown, TE i picked held out too (Green Bay guy). A bunch of scrub WR's.

Picked up Isaac Bruce after week one. Traded two WR's that I had no idea who they were that turned out to be one week wonders for Chris Carter. After 4-5 weeks I had Elway, Sanders, Marshall Faulk (rookie), Bruce, Carter, Irvin, CHmura (TE GB).

Made it to superbowl in first year - got clobbered in Superbowl - guy I played was the guy who asked me to join league. I remember he had Jerry Rice and Chris Warren. They combined for like 7 td's alone that week.

Was hooked from then on. Remember getting newspaper and PFW weekly to look at stat lines for receivers getting targets to upgrade. Best moves were picking up the then unkown Isaac Bruce and picking up John Taylor who returned from injury and had a solid first week. Traded him and another WR to a SF fan who had Michael Irvin. Learned value of Free Agent pickups, early season one week wonders, and trading in first year.

It was sometime back in the late 80's, can't remember exactly what year. I worked at a large corporation in Columbus, Oh., about a mile or so from the Horseshoe actually. They had a league there and asked if I wanted in after quickly determining how much of a fan I was. The money players back then consisted of the likes of Warren Moon and Andre Rison, among others. I remember that. As best as I can recall, it's always been at least one money league I've been a participant in since that very time. I was hooked from day one, although I'm not the real gambling type.
I was early 80's from the horseshoe in Columbus Ohio! We drafted from Gahanna! We were the Dawgs and I got in this group from my tailgate group at the shoe. The corporation was Shonac/Design Shoe Warehouse! I also played softball for this group Monday night Berliner Industrial where I also coached some of the years over 20 years straight as well as never missed a home game 20 years straight until I had to take my son to national try outs one Saturday and even then I ate my tickets in hopes of makeing it back in time. As all my softball teams we were champ of champs more years then not with Worthington Steel and The Columbus Dispatch are tuffest league rivals in 80's. Here we are 25 to 30 years later same ole DAWGS expanded from 1 to 30 teams thanks to the good ole internet! I did give up my softball do to consistant hammie problems finally well into my 40's but looking for old time leagues to renew my career. R U READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
