About 80% crap.  20% classics/movies with some rewatch value. I was mostly buying the 4 for $20 deal when blockbuster wanted to unload their old movies.  Saved me from getting cable for a couple years.
You can probably sell/trade for something but you are taking an L here. DVD owners almost all took hard Ls.

As a cabin owner: 3 per year

DVD player up there will be primary movie player for the foreseeable future.
that's our plan.

I bought a few last year, none this year. I don't think we've bought any DVD other than kids movies since college.

I used to buy quite a few--especially Blu-Rays, but we probably get maybe 4-5 a year now and basically just big action/horror movies to really max out the home theater capacity.

We do a lot of PPV now, but the quality just isn't there as far as sound IMO

I have bought a few  (maybe 5) total in the past 5 years because they were movies that I would like to have around, and I know they would be very hard to find free or even on sites like netflix.  Plus they were about 2 bucks each.

Not sure I have ever bought a DVD new in the store unless it was a present for someone a long time ago.

f I had a stack of DVDs I'd use Vudu's disc to digital program to get HD copies of each.
Until March I would scan the dollar stores and Big Lot clearance, etc. to gather 10 at a time.  $3.50, $4.00 total (roughly the price of a rental) seemed about right to add stuff to just have.   But now that this deal is done $6.00+ seems too much.    So I guess this question is a year too soon for me to answer..

I guess I am a little surprised at the lack of purchases.  I guess I am one of the few that would miss the bonus features (or do they have that online too?)  I would assume the audio/picture woukd be better too, no?

Another indication of where this is going...

Fargo Season 3 will not be available on Blu Ray (DVD only). The only way to get it in HD will be digital.

Between Netflix, Amazon, HBO, satellite and the interwebz - I haven't bought physical media in years.  For me, the main thing is, is that I seem to be the only one that ever watches anything more than once.  My wife or my son will look at me and say "wait, we've seen this movie already, why are watching it again?"  I always respond "because it's a great movie and worthy of watching again???"  At which point I usually get "oh come on, can't we watch something we HAVEN'T already seen?"  Ah well.

There is definitely a difference in quality from BD to digital. Now with 4k discs it's not close.

But the tide is turning, like it or not.

Does DVD = Blu Ray for this pole?

If I had a stack of DVDs I'd use Vudu's disc to digital program to get HD copies of each.
You only are allowed to stream it or use their app right?  No actual digital copy of the movie you can use with your own media server?

It is pretty dead format, but I have bought a few 3D movies lately.  Look better with on my projector than at the theater.  Maybe buy some 4K movies if there are any good ones. Stream anything else.

It is disappointing that 3D didn't catch on more. I love having movies in 3D.  Not all of them are done well, but the decent ones it really adds something when watching them in 3D.

By the way, if you don't have it, Pacific Rim 3D is just over $6 on Barnes and Noble right now. The 3D in it is some of the best I've seen, particularly what they do with smoke/debris/snow/rain.

I admit I'm leery of buying movies/games/whatever where I have to rely on a company staying in business to retain access to them.

Of course there is the option of recording the stream.   :scared:
True, but since Vudu is owned by WalMart it won't go out of business. Shut down maybe. But I get your point.

The studios have bought into the model though. They're all invested in the MoviesAnywhere idea.

Need to have a 0 option.  I stopped buying physical media when the PS4 came out.  No movies or games.

haven't bought a dvd in years (Step Brothers in the walmart $5 bin).

My wife continues to buy a couple Christmas movies each year and then making our increasingly older and less interested children watch them for a month between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We typically pick up a couple Blu-ray throughout the year if we really liked a movie, and tend to grab a couple from the $5 bin on Black Friday.  We generally use Netflix, Amazon, & Hulu for watching stuff, but I still prefer the image quality of a physical disc.

It's funny how a few months changes your mind. Pretty sure we're going to have internet with WiFi in the cabin so no need to buy DVDs.

Zero

Read the op and that's it.  We used to have hundreds of DVDs (including MANY TV series).  Probably had 700+ total discs.  Never watched them and then were turned to the magic of tidying up book.  Threw all but ten of them away.  Felt great.

Haven't bought physical media in a loooong time. I will purchase a copy of a video every once in a while on iTunes, and with that you usually get the bonus features that @KarmaPolice mentioned.

Only purchase on Google Play, ie youtube and even there I only buy with the nickels and dimes I accumulate through the google survey app.  Keep a wish list on there for when I can't think of anything for gift ideas.  I'm a cheap ####er when it comes to media stuff.

Cool - I didn't know that.  I still don't have the option b/c of my crap interwebs, so I am still pissed at all you non-buyers making it so I might not even have that option soon.  ;)
