How many games will Newton be suspended? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
Newton kicked a Raider defensive player and then bumped an official. Has to be two games from Goodells henchman.

Giving plenty of ammunition to detractors, Cam Newton kicked Raiders defensive lineman Tommy Kelly following a sack. Later in the game Cam Newton’s emotions boiled over again following a routine hit in the backfield. Taking his lobbying a little too seriously, he was flagged for bumping the official and walked off the field with a sour look on his face.

With two altercations in a single game, Newton should hear from the league office this week.

Nope, Goddell is too busy reviewing the Lions game to see if Suh sneezed. Peace

The bumping into the ref situation was clearly unintentional (which the ref even said... And it was the reason he wasn't ejected). The kick was as a result of the raiders basically holding him down and trying to hurt him.

Not the smartest move ever, but certainly nothing that will get him suspended. It will be more ammunition for people who dig for more reasons to hate him though...

Yesterday was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen, where players weren't allowed to do anything without a penalty. Players on both sides were frustrated and getting extremely chippy throughout because of it.

he is too big of a star, and at too high-profile of a position for them to consider suspending him.

those are the reasons. 98% of the league would get suspended for his actions. he's a 2%-er.

Love the people coming out saying that Newton was justified in his kick because the other guy was playing dirty. Glad to see that defense is available for QBs, because it sure wasn't for Suh.

Should be a single game suspension. But since it's a QB, none will come.

Typical behavior from this punk.
Actually watch the plays in question. Definitely dirty plays by the Raiders. After the game, players even admitted they were trying to hurt Cam in retaliation for Carson getting hurt.
:goodposting:
Not sure that's a valid argument for kicking. Regardless of why, if he kicked someone he should sit a game. I haven't seen it so I have no opinion other than that's a stupid excuse.

My argument has more to do with him kicking off the two players who were pushing him down into the ground (one of whom was penalized for the play). I don't even blame the Raiders players too much though . At that point in the game, the refs had made the entire game a cluster#### of bad calls, and everyone on the field (and watching in the stadium) was completely frustrated.

I just watched it. He should've been flagged at least for that. The flag for hitting Palmer was horse####. Don't want to get hit? Get rid of the ball sooner. Utter crap. Should've gone for the knees so his shoulder pads hit first. Simple answer to all these ### backwards penalties. QB gets hit hard - flag. QB kicks other player - flag on other player. Yeah the ref bump wasn't an intentional touching of the ref but he was storming the ref angry at the non call trying to intimidate him. That can't be tolerated. Taken together should probably be a one game suspension since neither of those actions are part of the game. He won't be, but if it were a defender he would be. Easily.

So the Raiders held him down in such a manner that his unconscious nervous system caused his leg to flex which resulted in contact with another player? Ahhh......I follow you. So if you untie Suh's shoelaces, those are connected to his thigh muscles causing an unintentional flex that may contact a Packer's player?Curious minds want to know....

Peace

I didn't say the kick was unintentional....Not sure where you got that impression. It was a retaliation to get the players off of him, in a game where everyone was getting chippy at that point because of the horrendous officiating.

Hilarious that Suh defenders find any opportunity to cry about his mistreatment. Kicking people while they're down will get you labeled. Deal with it.

I was pointing out that you said it was Justified. It aint, ever.Don't blame the officials or the Raiders.

Blame Cam for being a little child.

You are really bad at reading comprehension apparently, because you keep putting words in my mouth. I didn't say it was justified. I said it happened as a result of them holding him down. Just because there was an action (holding him down) and a reaction (him kicking) doesn't make it justifiable. I just don't think it is anything worthy of a suspension since it was a clear reaction to another dirty move by players who admitted they were going after him as a result of their qb getting injured (in what was a clean play, I might add). I also don't think the raiders players should be suspended/penalized... Because every player in that game was chippy and playing a little dirty as a result of the frustration they were all dealing with because of the refs. Both situations were penalty worthy, and I would understand a fine... But not suspensions.

Apparently in the course or the game, it's less penalty-worthy to kick a player or step on them than it is to legally tackle a player. At least in that game.

Suh kicked the GB player because he was being held...2 games. That is the standard now for kicking an opposing player.

I may be wrong, but didn't suh also have a history of penalties and fines for dirty plays and cheap shots? From my understanding, that plays into all decisions, and there isn't a set "standard". Cam doesn't have a history of cheap shots or dirty plays. Also, Suh stomped on a guy while he was on the ground, Cam kicked someone while they were holding HIM down. The two plays aren't really that similar, or than a foot being involved.

I never realized that so many people disliked Newton so much. Just looking for any reason to belittle him.

Pretty much everything that happened in the CAR-OAK game warrants a pretty big "meh".

As for Suh, he is widely considered (by other players) one of the dirtiest players in the game and it wasn't just for the kick on Dietrich-Smith. From personal fouls to his non-kick/kick at Schaub's balls he has built up a reputation around the league as being an #######. Add in his multiple off the field issues that have demonstrated a repeated disregard for other people and it is pretty understandable why people are down on him.

I think the comparison some are trying to make with Cam are just ludicrous. Cam has been immature, primarily as a team leader for a short stretch this season, but he keeps his nose clean on and off the field and his game appears to be improving. His biggest off field transgression is embracing his lifestyle as an entertainer before he did anything in the NFL. Big deal, he's 23 years old. I guarantee that the overwhelming majority of people in America were also immature boobs when they were his age. He has the look of a player who is on the rise and he seems to be maturing.

Cam has done somethings throughout his football career to warrant some of the negativity directed at him. He's also not some "no name" player.. he's one of the few faces of the NFL and his franchise. I saw the 2 plays in question and though I didnt think they were "bad" per se, I do think a fine is coming. No suspension. Its obvious that the officials probably let that game get out of hand so I do place some blame on them.

:goodposting: This. Newton could (and probably should) get a fine, but equating this with Suh is silly. It's not suspension worthy, IMO.

I acknowledged that he has been immature most notably his demeanor during the losing streak earlier this season. Big deal, he looks like he is working to overcome that and has responded remarkably well during the second half of the season. The team has nothing to play for so he can afford to be loose and easy going now, but we can only judge by what he has shown and he has responded well. His off the field "entertainer" comments were almost two years ago. I'm over it.It's early in his career yet to make any sweeping statements, let's see next year when the Panthers hit some adversity, but to me it looks like he is on the rise as a player and maturing as a person.

Didn't a Packet get suspended earlier than that for being in his back and kicking someone in the junk?

That was more a push/shove with the leg rather than a kick. The push forward came after he already was contacting the defensive player with his foot. Think of it this way. If you already have your hand on a guys facemask and you push forward is that a punch?

No chance he is suspended.

There are plenty of haters but it appears this thread is only here because Detroit homers want to whine about Suh's mistreatment

If you watched Cam miked up on rewind... the ref bumping was nothing. No doubt he deserves a fine for it.

I know its a different sport, but D.Wade was suspended for a lesser kick than Newtons.

And Newton deserves every bit of criticism her gets.

A lesser kick?  What the hell are you talking about? Wade kicked a guy in the junk. Doesn't get any worse than that. Newton's kick on the other hand was essentially a push/shove with his foot.

Yep, past precedent shows a fine is expected. The bump was still nothing. The ref and Cam were friendly with eachother after the incident.
