How many RBs will the Patriots keep? (1 Viewer)

The Patriots are very deep at RB with Maroney, Morris, K Faulk, Jordan, Evans, and Jarvis Green-Ellis. Surely not all these will be carried. I know that we have several Patriot homers and just curious what y'all think and if predominant thought is a continued RBBC with Maroney leading the pack.

Still think that there is a possibility that Maroney gets the opportunity for 15 to 20 rushes and a couple of receptions per game to surprise some and finish nearer top 12 than 20ish where projected.

I heard Jordan may get cut. If so he probably wont be jobless too long.

Published Mon Aug 25 8:07:00 p.m. PT 2008(Rotoworld) LaMont Jordan was at Patriots practice Monday.Analysis: He has sat out the last two preseason games, although it's uncertain if he was hurt. At this point, we have no clue what Jordan's role will be. He could be anywhere from the primary backup to a possible release.I'm not here to say this is reliable, gasface just said he seen it and i remember seeing it too.

The Pats will keep 5 RBs. They all can/will play a role.

Maroney - Best runner on team. Does no catch many passes, only a fair blocker. Durability issues.

Faulk - Best pass catching RB. Great 3rd down back. Great blocker. Big Play ability. Not an every down back. 32 years old, 10 year NFL vet. Locker room leader. Durability could be an issue.

Morris Excellent short yardage, between tackles runner. Not a receiving threat. Can he be a full time RB? Sternum/Clavicle injury last year may still be trouble for him.

Jordan Not the best in any one area but maybe the best all around RB on NE (run inside, run outside, catch, block). Has also been working with special teams to add value with roster spot.

Evans a FB type short yardage guy with good hands. Can block, catch, and plow through the middle.

Is there a handcuff to Maroney? I am not sure who, if any, would be the best one to have if Maroney were to go down.

This sums up the situation very nicely. I'd be real surprised if any of these five got cut. If it did happen my guess would be it was due to injury concerns over Morris or Jordan but everything being said locally is to expect all five to make the cut. Now, how they're going to be used is a totally different story...

As of yesterday, the plan I heard was Maroney, Morris, Faulk, Jordan, and Evans will all make it and Jarvis Green-Ellis would get cut and possibly resigned to the practice squad if he is not claimed by another team.

As far as whether the Pats will run the ball more, I suspect (by extrapolation) that they if far ahead that they will forgo leaving Brady in quite so long and will run more than pass late in the game. However, I doubt Maroney will be the one getting mop up time carries.

As I see it, all the backs they will carry will have defined roles, those this will be a RBBC in the truest sense of the word. Maroney should still get 15-17 carries, few receptions, and limited goal line looks.

Faulk will still be the one in predominently on passing downs and will get few rushing attempts and very few red zone looks. Morris and Jordan will share time in short yardage with Jordan getting more receptions. Evans I think will be getting some last drive, run out the clock bursts into the pile and not much else.

I would not say that Maroney will automatically get pulled at the goal line, but I would hardly call him a goal line back either. BB sometimes leaves him in if he's been effective on that particular drive but other times has pulled him.

Long story short, if all these backs are healthy, I don't see any of them being great fantasy options in 10-12 team leagues. However, if you use flex spots or are in 14 or 16 team leagues Morris, Jordan, and Faulk are all at least candidates for bye week or injury fill ins.

Lost my wifi connection and has maroney autodrafted for me in the 3rd... obviously livid... hopefully he can continue his stetch run of last year...

The thing about Maroney that is intriguing is that he limped into the year hurt and obviously it carried until about mid season... he is 100% now, and proven to be good when healthy...

if he performs, the RBBC will be exaggerated, Maroney will see 15-20 carries, if he is mediocre, then i see his carries going to about 10-12. interesting dynamic.

The good news is Maroney can be explosive, so there will probably be a couple "sell high" opportunities for you in the first half of the season.

with a supposedly easy schedule, I fully expect Maroney to get 20-25 carries/gm, and for the rest of this motley crew to assume mop-up duties in 3rd/4th quarters of games this season..

back to a smashmouth offense like they had with Dillon..
