How much do sharks play the matchups? (1 Viewer)

Shutout

Not talking about the NBYS guys.

Talking about those valuable 2nd, 3rd, and flex guys that tip the scales when you got 'em (or run into them).

Do sharks dive very deep into the matchup pool?

VJAX vs. Giants this week.

Kevin Smith vs. Niners this week.

Anybody else anyone can think of off the top of their head.

Not asking for "would you start these guys..just using them as a couple of easy examples that come to mind".

Do you guys tend to weight these things out or just go with what you got and, if you DO play matchups, do you tend to do heavy trading or work waiver wires?

I need "offsetting" bad/good match-ups between two players before I seriously consider sitting the "starter" for the "bench" player.

If there's another option, I'll sit an rb against the Niners- I used Smith at rb2 last week, but this week I'll look toward Benson if there's no clear indication of Mathews returning. But that's currently the only defense I'd avoid. I've got four solid wrs, so I may sit a guy who runs into Revis, but he's the only corner who'll get that respect at this time.

I'll work on a case by case basis. At RB2, I sat McGahee vs. Pit and Ry. Williams vs. SEA (bad matchups) for Pierre Thomas vs. Skins (decent matchup). they all sucked

But played Peyton (bad matchup) over Locker vs. NEP (strong matchup) which turned out well

Your example is pretty cut and dry....VJax is a strong matchup and Smith is a bad matchup unless you play ppr, where there is some potential for him

Playing matchups is usually an indication of an abundance of talent on your roster or a dearth of talent on your roster. If you have an overabundance of talent, start your studs. If you are lacking talent, you're trying to catch a falling knife anyway.

Yea... what Statcruncher said. Matchup plays are often when your roster is so good that you play the matchups as a Top 5 WR vs a Top 10 WR a lot of times the Top 10 with a amazing match up will out score. For example this weekend I have the choice of do I start Alfred Morris @ STL, Trent Richardson @ CIN or Michael Bush @ GB. Any one of these guys could have a 2 TD day. The worse part is they all have decent matchups. I probably avoid T Rich until he proves anything, but it's tough. At the moment I'm siding with Morris. Either play could be huge though. I'd never play a matchup on something like Marshawn Lynch vs Mark Ingram though. Lynch is just going to get plugged in and locked, I don't care if he's playing the Niners and Ingram is playing Boise State. But yeah when you are comparing two WR1 or RB1 you can play matchups a little. Same goes for two WR3 or 4s or what have you.

tl;dr: I only play the matchups when it's to 'evenly' ranked players.

In a perfect world I have a solid 7 and can eschew matchups. Rarely does this happen in practice (though it is true for me for all but QB this year).

I play matchups when I have guys that I think that are less than solid and comparable to each other usually.

This. The other thing I will look at is what the player's TEAM will likely do. I prefer (again, all else being fairly equal) to start RBs on the teams I think will be leading most of the game and WRs on teams I think will be trailing - but again, this is ONLY in cases of similar players.
