How much does having Ike Taylor out hurt the Steeler D? (1 Viewer)

He's been playing great, really wanted to start the Steeler D vs. the Chargers at home, but wondering if with Taylor out does it give Rivers a prayer of succeeding. Any homers know of the backups there? Hopefully not too huge of a drop off

Allen will start. He was getting picked on after Taylor went out against Balt. However, if Woodley is back and Troy plays more snaps I think the dropoff won't be terrible. This was the first game they managed to get turnovers.

Keenan Lewis and Cortez Allen have both been arguably having better seasons than Ike. Biggest question is how good Curtis Brown fills in as the #3 CB now.

I dont see much of a dropoff with their D, if any. SD doesnt have the stud WR that could possibly take advantage of Ike being out.

I have to disagree with the above. Ike started the season poorly and I wondered if it was a hangover from getting Demaryius Thomased in the playoffs. But he has come on really strong and completely shut down some WRs (Green and Smith come to mind). I know he was getting safety help over the top but he's playing well. Lewis has been better than expected (leads the league in passes defended?) but I don't see how Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown isn't a significant drop off from Ike. This hurts the Steelers IMO.

I never got the Ike Taylor hate. They will be impacted by his absence. Guy is one of the most underrated CBs in the NFL. If he could catch the ball, he would have been a multi-time pro bowler.

didn't sd just lose both tackles, one of whom was already a back up?I think half their line are practice squadders -- doubt ike would be the difference here.

It remains to be seen how badly Ike will be missed. Cortez Allen was picked on by the Ravens and while he had a few plays he didn't make (one of which resulted in a TD), he made some really nice plays as well. Overall I think he played a good game.

I like Ike a lot but let's not forget that Ike had a few clunkers earlier this season and has hands of stone so perhaps the drop off won't be as much as people think.

As an AJ Green owner, I can say that I am foaming at the mouth now that Ike is out. The only corner that has been able to shut Green down. I have been dreading the fact that AJ had to play the Steelers again in the playoffs, but now I feel much better. I think he can have his usual productive game, now that they will have to devote more than one DB to covering him.

We will see, but I thought that Ike was having a Pro Bowl year, after the rocky start to the season. I think that the Steelers will have a much more difficult time hiding the loss of Ike, than they did Polomalu.

Hey Tomlin, how does it feel to be totally out coached by Norv ####### Turner? Nice effort. I have the Jet, Bronco and Steeler D all ranked in the top 7 and I play these clowns. Opponent picks up Browns off the wire. Just hate the Steelers.

More injuries:

Steelers projected starting CBs Cortez Allen and Keenan Lewis are both nursing hip flexor injuries this week.

The matchup for the Cowboys passing game keeps getting better. While Lewis is expected to play Sunday, Allen's status is in question. Third cornerback Curtis Brown was benched for ineffectiveness last week after getting toasted by Bolts slot receiver Michael Spurlock. Dec 11 - 3:18 PM

I was leaning toward benching Romo for Palmer, but this news combined with Dez having a shot to play has me reevaluating. Romo this year has been the ultimate "beat up on bad Ds" QB so far this year, but a matchup vs a healthy Steelers D has all the makings of a 220/1/1 line. Now? Not so sure.

Right with ya. Was thinking I was going to bench Romo for Kaepernick but now I'm 50/50.
