How much of your future do you mortgage, to (1 Viewer)

Just wondering how other dynasty owners handle their squads, in a year where they feel the have a good shot at winning it all.

How much of your young future do you sell?

Do you sell off TOP young players with a brutal playoff schedule?

Do you target guys who may not have much value next year?

Do you 1st deal your draft picks?

Do you add depth even if your team has no weakness?

Do you stay put?

Thoughts?

Past experiences?

this is a Great Post... this is a good time to start making these moves.I never liked the idea of Selling Top young talent; I rather sell a pick. Unless your selling a top 5 rookie; a pick will get your more on the market anyway. If your loading up for the championship; especially if the league has a large payout; then that players value in the future shouldn't influence you... Always attempt to add depth if its avalible; especially this time of year.

It's just not easy to win it all, alot of luck is involved in your matchups, so when your close I have the go for it feeling, but I am cheap in the same regards and don't wanna part with too much talent for players who may not have as much upside.Has anyone done it, and has it paid off?Has it backfired, and if so how much did it set your squad back?

Win now , the future is not gaurenteed. Too many injuries and other factors play into building for the future.

Young players often get overhyped and over paid for...often destroying teams that get guys who never pan out.

If you can win now and be in the money for the next couple years it would be more benificial than hoping to be good in 3 years.

Never been in a dynasty, but have always played in keepers, so the principle is the same. My philosophy is, was and always will be, play to win now, worry about next year when it gets here. I will make whatever trades I need to to win now. You just never know when the opportunity may present itself again.

so, lets day for example

Bush for Alexander

Fitz for Harrison

Turner for Jamal Lewis

these kinda deals would hurt your long term, but could provide needed help for this year in the playoffs.

I don't mean these specific trades whether you would do them, but the basic principle.

I think those are all horrible deals for the person giving up the younger guy.For one all those younger guys could outproduce their older counter-part during many weeks this season and once it's in the playoffs it's a crapshoot. The going for it all and sacrificing the future sounds good in theory, but due to the huge amount of luck come playoff time it ends up killing teams in the longrun and many times doesn't even help them in the short-term.The highest regular season point total team in my leagues rarely wins the title. Also in my dynasty leagues that have been going on for a long time everyone has learned that giving up top notch young talent for older vets is a recipe for disaster since if you don't win the title it ends up a horrible deal and isn't worth the slight advantage it might give you in the current year.

I'll reply to this one since I do the keeper thing not the dynasty thing as well. I'm the exact opposite and I've won 3 titles in the last 5 years. I HATE giving up picks in the forward years, exactly b/c there is such an amount of luck involved and sometimes the guys that carry you are found on the wire. Now having typed this, it just shows how much of a different animal dynasty is, since the value of (especially later round) draft picks is much less and the career span/random injury factor pushes the immediate help factor more to the fore. My philosphy very well would probably change with every round not numbered 1.-QG
