We all have different styles, some like to trade a lot, some don't. I've tried using both approaches and I find I really like the team I drafted most of, perhaps it's an emotional attachment to seeing a player I pick exceed expectations, while those who don't do well, I drop or trade for picks.

So it got me thinking, what's common? It appears many people here like to deal, but there's something to be said for assembling YOUR team through the draft.

I realize many people trade for picks, but for the sake of this poll, include those players you drafted after acquiring that pick (but try not to include players you traded picks for, even if in the middle of the draft).

* = for auction leagues, use the initial auction - rookie auction too, if that's your format. Basically, players you didn't trade for.

ETA: I allowed multiple votes to allow for each of your leagues - obviously won't work for multiple no-trade leagues

I inherited a last place team in a 10 team dynasty league 3+ years ago. The team had a solid core though with LJ, Westbrook, Brees, Ward and Housh. In the first draft I picked R Brown and S Smith (Car. coming off injury). As fortune would have it LJ and Smith blew up and I won the League Championship. My team died on me in the playoffs the second year and I finished out of the money and came in 2nd last year. Out of the 19 players we can roster I have 7 of the original players left (actually six but I have made a trade that hasn't been processed yet).

Inherited an average team about 7 years ago (40 man rosters), and the only player i have left from the original roster is Donald Driver.

I've always seem to have a team in the thick of things, so I tend to keep my drafted players on a short leash unless I really see something I like. I tend to trade my picks fairly often to get players I want/need. I offset that by being a WW hound. I am constantly picking up the hot players and moving them later for picks.

ETA: A lot of my younger players are people I targeted during our drafts and didn't get them. I either traded for them or waited for their owners to get impatient and cut them.

Drafted Braylon and CP as rookies on this team. Had this team for about 7-8 years now

I just looked a dynasty league from the 2004 season. It is 14 team, 28 roster league. The only drafted "players" are the Jaquars and Cardinals. From the season ending rosters, Brady, who I got in an otherwise awful trade and Welker, who I picked up off waivers probably just to fill out my roster.

This is a league that is mildly active during the year with a flurry around the draft, but goes all but dormat outside of those two periods. I am a moderate trader and while a little more active on the WW, I am still not a transaction fiend.

My main dynasty league is a Zealots league. Out of 53 players currently on my roster (our rookie draft is going as we speak), 31 of them are draft picks. The rest are almost all FA pickups; I'm not a big trader. As one would expect in this league, most of my offensive players are draft picks, while there are a lot of more free agents on my defense.

Unfortunately, there are way too many key starters on my squad from the inaugural draft. My last couple of rookie drafts have been brutal, with guys like Eric Shelton, Ryan Moats, and Michael Bush playing prominent roles in my draft-day tales of woe. I guess that goes a long way toward explaining why I'm a proud new Jonathan Stewart owner. :bittersweet:

Kinda a fun thing to look back at.

Going into our 4th year. Of the original 34 spots, I've kept Brady, E. Manning, LJ, Cadillac, Braylon Edwards, Roy Williams, Watson, Winslow, Gibril Wilson, and I gave up and reacquired Sean Jones. So 10/34 remain. That's probably close to tops in our league for retention. Some teams have 1-2 guys from their originally drafted team and most have 5-6. I've never drafted a player in our 4 round rookie draft - traded all 12 picks so far.

Not that active a league, but a reasonable number of trades are done.

In one of my 12 team, 22 roster leagues that had its startup draft last year I have a grand total of 6 players that I drafted:

Adrian Peterson

Drew Brees

Torry Holt

Brodie Croyle

Mike Walker

Chicago Defense

Needless to say, I trade a lot.

Dynasty league, 1 year old. Of my 8 starters, 6 were originally drafted by me (75%). Of my top-13 (8 starters + 1 backup at each starting position), 11 were originally drafted by me (85%). I've made some big deals (MJD for Moss, TO for Gates, Gates + Javon Walker for Fitzgerald), but for the most part, I've just been very happy with the team I drafted, and most people haven't been open to discussing deals for the guys I'd be interested in acquiring.

Our league is kind of structured around player movement (especially top teams losing guys) with RFA, etc.

Of my roster (see sig), only Steven Jackson, Randy Moss, Antonio Gates, and the Chicago Defense were drafted by me in the initial draft 3 years ago. To be fair though, 4 of my main guys (AD, Lynch, Grant, Jennings) weren't even in the league yet at that point.

I won't include this year's picks

League 1, keeper league currently in a draft:

Calvin Johnson is the only player I drafted and still have, although I drafted Greg Olsen last year, dropped him, and drafted him again this year - does that count? 1/30

League 2, dynasty:

Chris Henry (RB), Braylon Edwards, Matt Jones, Randle El, Brad Smith, Jeremy Shockey, Mike Nugent, Legedu Naanee; 8/55

ETA: admittedly, some of these guys wouldn't be rostered in smaller leagues, but ARE, Smith, and Naanee are 3 of "my guys" - but they will probably be better NFL players than FF contributors.

2002 was the first year of the SFL and I had 55 guys on that roster, and only 2 (Daunte Culpepper and Chad Johnson) remain.

I've made 34 draft picks over 7 rookie drafts, and 12 are on my 2008 roster.

And 8 of those 12 draft picks will be on my 2008 Opening Day 18-Man Starting Lineup.

2008 Roster

50 Players

2 = Original Roster

12 = Draft Picks retained

36 = Acquired via Trade or Free Agency

14/50 = 28%

And I have one championship, and I am a close second in All-Time Wins in this league.

If I have a draft strategy, it's to package middle round picks (2nds/3rds/4ths) to move up into the first round to grab starters, and then use my 5th/6th rounders for depth, if they are worth it.

I have 31 of 58 left that I drafted originally or as rookies on my 14 team league that was the top scoring team and had best all-play record last year but didn't even make the 6 team playoffs. Original draft was in February 2006.

On my 12 team local league that I've been in for a long time (drafted Peyton as a rookie and still have him), I have 9 of 32 left that I drafted as rookies.

Entering my 5th year, only Javon Walker hasn't left the team. Kevin Jones is an original, but was traded away that 1st season, then reacquired from a 3rd owner this off-season. I also cut Chicago, and reacquired them 2 years later.

After winning jaWs in 2005, we blew up our team and decided we only wanted to have players we liked both as players and people on our squad. Now we only have a couple guys left from the Championship team (DAYNE and Boldin being the most notable.) The rest are guys we've drafted in the last couple years (VY, ADP, Marshall, Mendenhall, Gostkowski, etc.)

Thinking our window is 2009-2012...
