How old is Earth? How old is humankind? (1 Viewer)

How old is human civilization?

Depends what you mean by "civilization" frankly. You mean when did we first become agrarian and build permanent settlements?

Anyone not voting for the first option in both are fooling themselves. They need to find Jesus. The truth is going to set you free and FINALLY our government will follow the truth. Repent heathens.

Hello. You may or may not be interested in knowing that your dice still get regular use and are known in my D&D group as "the Pickle dice".
My god.. I nearly forgot about that.

Those are some some vintage dice. I think they were hewn in Gary Gygax's basement.

hm, good question.  how about we call it when "science" largely agrees groups of "human-like" creatures came together in groups for survival and communal living.

Ah. That's different from the agrarian interpretation that I used. And for that, I relied on the expertise of world renowned anthropologist Sid Meier who assures me it happened in 4000 BC precisely. Maybe a few hundred years later if there's a better tile a few spaces away.

Humankind is a few hundred thousand years old to a couple million or so (depending on somewhat arbitrary line-drawing). Agrarian settlements have happened at different times around the globe, anywhere from not-yet to maybe ~12,000 years ago ... going from memory based on what I've read.

Planet Earth, paradoxically, is 6,000 years old.

I dont think people who really think the earth is 6,000 years old will come in here and admit it.  I think they all know it isn't, but the religious brainwashing is so ingrained in their heads, they just can't bring themselves to admit it.

Shy young earthers?

I'm glad this thread turned quickly into an old school clique fest circle jerk, rather than a re-hashed young earth creationist debate.

Anyone see LarryBoy44 lately?

Can always simplify things and just vote >6000

My mom was quite a Bible literalist ...she'd freak out a little if we suggested that the "six days" of creation didn't actually mean "six days."  ("Days" has about ten different meanings in the book of Genesis, FWIW.  NTTAWWT.)
