As what, waterboy?lofl @ numbnuts. Couldn't happen to a dumber guy.

Four teams??? Sounds like my men's ice hockey league in Raleigh, NC...in fact, we left that rink for one that offers ten teams...who the hell is he going to be playing against??

It's unclear if Clarett will ever play for the Hitmen, because the team currently has just four players on its roster, the newspaper reported.

The Hitmen plan to hold open tryouts in August, the newspaper reported, and Terry hopes the league will begin play in January or February.
:lmao:

I actually think Clarett could do well in this league. Maybe not as a starter, but at least as a special teams player.

I actualy have him ranked RB11 in the Eastern Indoor Football League...Wait, 4 teams?...

:P

This does not bode well for the scouting department for the broncos.

How in the heck can you draft a guy that high and have him wash out and end up like this?
He probably could have been decent if he had worked at it. It's Clarett's fault, not the Broncos' fault, that Clarett totally blew his opportunity. I guess trying to predict whether somebody will be a bunghole is part of scouting; but if he actually does turn out to be a bunghole, I'd blame the player more than I'd blame the scouts. It was under the player's control.

Oh yeah, this looks very promising.

In addition to the Hitmen, the EIFL’s Web site lists New Jersey’s Bay Shore Brawlers and Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Rats as the other teams in the league. Terry also said a team from Maryland recently joined the EIFL.

NFL | Clarett not signed yet; but probably soon

(KFFL) Brian Lavrich, of the Tribune Chronicle, reports the Mahoning Valley HitMen have said for weeks that NFL free agent RB Maurice Clarett (Broncos) will suit up and play this winter. Clarett attended a team news conference Thursday, July 13. "This is a great opportunity for me to get back onto the football field," Clarett said. "This is a step back to the NFL. The one thing I can do is play football." Clarett denied signing a contract, but, when asked whether he was going to play with the HitMen, he said he's, "One hundred percent sure." Neither Clarett nor HitMen general manager/coach Jim Terry would elaborate on what the sticking point is in contract negotiations. They did reveal that the contract would be for two years. Clarett said he was in negotiations with the Mahoning Valley Thunder, Youngstown's ArenaFootball2 team, but they didn't offer enough money.

DUH! :)

was he expecting a multi-million dollar bonus from an arena MINOR league team?

he didn't from his NFL team...so i doubt he'd expect one from these guys

I think he could be a star in this league... The Barry Sanders of the Eastern Indoor Football League...

I'm not going to bash him though, obviously he's made some poor decisions but if Ohio State didn't pay him under the table to buy the expensive stereo equipment that was stolen (he really didn't lie to police, he had the expensive stereo it's jus that he couldn't explain where he got the money without exposing where he got it from, so he had to lie and say he didn't have it) he could have played longer at OSU and who knows maybe did something with his life. BTW he was THE reason OSU won that National Championship.

I guess now is as good a time as any to bust out this old quote.

Clarett will have a fresh start now and talent will win out. This is the NFL. I would take money from boosters too. ##### all you biatches that look down on him for taking money. You people are idiots and are what is wrong with this world. I would gladly take the money and all the risk involved. If I get caught, oh well, I'll get over it. It is much easier to sleep with a pillow filled with $100 bills and everyone has to sleep. You may as well sleep comfortably! I hope he breaks Emmitt's record! Most of you OSU fans preaching the gospel are salty biatches who need to understand the value MO brought to the Ohio State University. You won a title because of him. Deal with it! Did he take money? Yes. Did 90% of the U of Miami player take money that year? Yes. Who cares! In my opinion he was the best RB that OSU have ever seen!

Agreed. Anyone who doesn't think Clarett had the talent to cut it in the NFL never saw him play at OSU.

Wow. When the Eastern Indoor Football League starts outbidding you for players, it's time to disband your league.

while I agree with most of this, the Broncos took him early and that should be counted as a negative. The other is that teams claim to delve into player's mindset to figure out what type of people they are. At some point, the Broncos get blame.Fair's fair. If TD(and others) is a steal and a half, gotta take the good with the bad IMO.

This is seriously good stuff right here.

This is the PERFECT example of a guy who can't hack it outside of the sports world. Rather than just go and try to get a job outside of sports and potentially make more money, he's going to settle for the minor leagues of Arena!? :loco:

We were talking about this at lunch today, since Youngstown is just up the street, and one of the guys said that Clarrett would be playing for a portion of the gate. Don't have any documentation on that, it's just heresay.

He could do well around here though as Youngstown is big OSU territory (after the YSU penguins).

The article doesnt say how much Clarett is paying them.

It's really sad that he I am assuming was not good enough for the AFL or AFL 2 and had to settle for whatever this is.

No, no, he WAS good enough for the AFL2, but they didn't want to pay him enough money.

Wow. When the Eastern Indoor Football League starts outbidding you for players, it's time to disband your league.
ArenaFootball2 teams can pay a player a maximum of $250 per game. At 20 players a game they are limited to $5000 per game. Eastern Indoor Football League teams are also limited to paying 20 players $5000 per game, but they can divy it up any way they see fit. So Clarett could have agreed to $4050 per game and the other 19 Hitmen will only get an average of $50 per game. What amazes me is not that the EIFL outbid the AF2 for Clarett, but that no AFL team was interested in giving Clarett a shot, leaving him nothing else than these leagues that on average don't even produce a liveable anual wage. The minimum wage in the AFL produces $25K plus living expenses, but the best players are well into six figure salaries. Of course the AFL's lack of interest in Claratt may be due to the AFL being so different from the NFL that even the best college running backs are literally useless in AFL games.
