How to draft when no one else knows what they are doing.... (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, I'm in a 14 team 3-player Keeper League. We're having our draft on Sunday, and I'm trying to figure out a strategy for coming out on top. The problem I have is that these guys all draft the same way. They all fill out their starters before picking any back ups. This goes against everything I read on here. If only one person was doing it that would be fine, but when everyone does it what would be the best way for me to take advantage of that?

Right now I have Willie Parker, Shaun Alexander, and through a trade I now have 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks (I pick 1.04, 1.08, 2. 07 and 2.11). Where should I run with this? Top flight RBs are obviously gone.

First thought that came to my mind since you have two very good starting RBs already is to try and from here get the best player in all of fantasy at the other positions with your draft picks.Try to get Gates as your TE.Try to get Baltimore or Chicago's defense.I'm sure Peyton Manning (and assuming Carson Palmer) are kept so try to get the best available QB that is not kept. Brees? McNabb? Brady? Bulger? etc.If you can field a team with 2 very solid starting RBs, a top 5 QB, the best TE in fantasy, and the best defense in fantasy. You will be pretty tough to beat.

There was a very good "Drafting with Guppies" article last year that covered this topic. I don't know if there will be a new one this year.

No, not good posting. It really depends on your league's scoring system and the keeper situation. For instance, if your league rewards 6 pts per passing TD, then it is more important to grab a top tier QB. In a keeper league, you also have to look at positional depth. The TE position has gotten deeper in recent years so it might be advisable to draft for depth at RB rather than draft a top TE. If most of the keeper slots have been filled with RB's, then having a solid RB3 to fill in when your starters are injured or on bye could be what separates your squad from some of the other top teams. Also, in my opinion, WR is the last position you should be worrying about in the early rounds. I can always find solid WRs in the later rounds or even via the waiver wire post draft. Unlike the other positions, there are 2-3 starters per NFL team so that makes for a deeper pool of fantasy talent.

What about a start 2 QB 12 team league where you anticipate all top 10 QBs and probably a few more gone by the end of the second round? My default for 12 teams is RB-RB-WR, but I'm not sure now. I feel like generally falling in line with the "rush" on a position is almost never a good thing, but the idea of having Eli Manning, Bret Favre, or Alex Smith as my #1 QB isn't exactly appealing.

Just my  In 2 QB leagues, QBs are even more valuable than RBs. I'd want to ensure I got a top dog.
