The free gift you will get is eternal life if you place your faith in Jesus Christ, believing in your heart that He died on the cross and rose from the dead for your sins.

Worst gift ever. I can't wait for this life to end and Jebus wants to drag it out for eternity? Thanks but no thanks, jerkface.

God is very much alive, for Jesus Christ rose again on the 3rd day!!!
This was borrowed (or stolen) from sun worshippers.

At the winter solstice the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky for the year (for those in the northern hemisphere). For three days, no movement north or south is detected. It's dead. Then it rises again. Christianity simply applied it to their own narrative. They did that with a lot of their claims. Very little of christianity is unique to christianity.

Love how they changed all the responses at mass that were in place for decades, most of them pointless. Yeah, "and with your spirit" is much better than "and also with you". Great job catholics. When I have no choice every two years like a wedding or something, I just stay silent so I won't screw it up.

Dear Eight Pound, Six Ounce, Newborn Baby Jesus, in your golden, fleece diapers, with your curled-up, fat, balled-up little fists pawin' at the air...

Hey, it's called progress pal ...look it up.

A good part of those "voluntary" tithings go into the research and development of group prayers that increase your chances of entering the pearly gates.

There is/are no god/gods.
IF THERE IS NO GOD

If there is no God,
Not everything is permitted to man.
He is still his brother's keeper
And he is not permitted to sadden his brother
By saying there is no God

- Czeslaw Milosz (translated)

Theologians have wondered about this for 2,000 years.  Thanks for clearing it up!

It came from the book of Jonah where he was in the belly of a fish for three days, which Christ specifically mentioned in Matthew 12:38-41.

Jonah is believed to have been written somewhere around 500-400 BC.

Our Lord and Heavenly Father
You Are El Emunah
The Faithful God.
And even when we are perfidious,
Or inconstant in our devotion,
You Are Faithful
From Generation to Generation.
And You Promise Us You will Not Depart from Your People
Your Faithfulness is not dependent upon our behavior or intentions.
You Alone are the One True God Over All!
And You Alone Are Faithful Forever.

May the Leaders of Our Own Beloved USA
Receive Wisdom from You
to do the Right Thing.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

That's an interesting theory, but outside of the three days part the stories don't seem to match up.

Sun worshipers, which dates back to the ancient Sumerians (thousands of years before Jonah was written) would see no movement in the sun on December 22, 23, and 24. It's dead. On the 25th, it moves 1 degree north. It's rising again. Their god was dead, but after 3 days rose again.

The ancient Sumerian sun god was called Utu. In the Sumerian flood myth (which the biblical flood story was stolen from), Utu emerges after the flood waters recede, and Ziusudra (the hero of the story, and the one Noah is copied after), sacrifices a sheep to Utu for delivering him to salvation. Thousands of years later, Utu became Jesus, who then died and rose 3 days later (like Utu died every year) to be the sheep sacrificed for salvation... but only to those who believe it actually happened.

If there is no God, than there is no reason to be moral.
To quote the great Rustin Cohle, "If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward then, brother, that person is a piece of ####."
I can't disagree with the great Rust, since he also said,

"I think human consciousness, is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law."

My take on the God quote has less to do with the expectation of divine reward (though, what's wrong with that?) and more to do with nature being amoral.   There ought to be a difference between right and wrong, even if we don't agree on where to draw that line.  Nature cannot separate from itself and didn't teach us this.

Who cares if that person is a piece of @#$# ?  Nothing matters if there is no God.  "All we are is dust in the wind" -Kansas

Despite the fact that this is god-level fishing trip here, my own  :2cents:  is that the levels of atrocity, subjugation, and outright evil performed in the name of religion and "god" is, in terms of its order of magnitude, much greater than the magnitude of good that has been done in the name of religion.

My favorite quote by any scientist was from Wolfgang Pauli, who apparently was a real character and in response to lazy writing/thought: "That is not just not right, it is not even wrong!"
