How to launch , or protect an idea? (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
I have been doing contract work for a number of different companies in the same industry. After seeing how a number of them operate I have an idea that I really think could fly, even a small basis I am pretty sure I could make a nice income.

Already researched and my startup investment would only be in the 50K area. I have an artist who already did a couple of logos for me.

The problem is if one of the big companies knew about the idea there is no doubt the could come to production with it very fast..much faster that I would be capable of. I have seen it happen over and over again.

How can I launch and protect my idea when going against the big boys? Because in the end they will be the ones using it.

Are you implying you had an original thought? That seems...unlikely.

PM Otis, who specializes in intellectual property. Probably give you a FBG discount off the normal $800 hourly rate.

You need to file a provisional patent.
Be cautious with these. You need to file a full patent disclosure within one year of filing of the provisional, or else you lose rights to it. Plus, provisional patents are also made public after this initial year. So, unless you are confident you can file a full patent within a year, do not yet file the provisional.

Can you clarify the bolded section. I thought provisional patent applications were public once you filed and the patent office entered it into the system. The reason I ask...is what would happen if two people filed provisional patents about a month apart and then about 10 months later the second guy submitted a full patent application? Are you sure that provisionals only become public after the year has transpired?
