Found out that a friend unexpectedly died.  He hadn't even reached his 40th birthday.  We shared a birthday (not same year though, but still).

Got to know him and his little brother fairly well via hanging out a local watering hole close to 20 years ago.  It was a hot spot for folks that went to my high school, and this guy and his brother went to my HS 7-8 years after I had graduated.

I shed some tears in my office today when I learned of this.  He was a warm, happy and engaging guy who was always glad to see you.  I feel terrible for his family, especially his brother who was there with him when he started having a seizure.  EMTs could not resuscitate him.

Godspeed, Ryan.  May you rest in peace.

Hug (whether virtually or otherwise) your loved ones... friends... family... today.

Thanks for listening.

Agreed.  I recently had a friend/coworker pass away while surfing (had a heart attack).  It was a complete shock to everyone.  Lost a really good man and friend.  Crazy how something like that just happens out of nowhere.

Sorry D

My deepest condolences to you and his family.  My parents got divorced when I was in high school and a Buddhist monk named Master Le kinda stepped in and acted as my mentor and father figure (as my father was no longer in my life after the divorce).   He passed away unexpectedly this year and it hit me really hard.  Having to attend his funeral digitally was another kick in the gut.  Losing somebody close is never easy--and I send my thoughts and prayers to you.   ##### 2020.

Thanks everyone.  I know it's kinda cliche' and equating drinking to anything usually isn't the way to go when remembering a friend this way, but I found myself at a crossroads - so to speak - yesterday when I drove out of my office complex.  One way leads me home via freeway, the other, via side streets (and past the bar we used to hang out at).  At the last moment I opted for the second route and stopped by the bar for a drink.  Obviously with where the world is at now, there weren't many people there,  but it was cathartic to sit and reflect on life.  Ended up chatting with one of my best friends via text about our respective new jobs.

He was a great guy and will be missed.

Appreciate the kind words.

You should get your swag from that bar for the t-shirt exchange.
