Hulk Hogan transcripts leaked - racismamania running wild brother (1 Viewer)

I'm going to offer a slightly different opinion here: His actions in the past were deplorable, and should not be condoned in any way. That being said, I've noticed that if someone is accused of something in popular culture, they're ostracized with no chance to redeem themselves. Let's be honest here, there are things in our past which we'd like to have remain buried, and they differ for everyone. Michael Richards hasn't been seen in any halfway decent role since his debacle, and that's coming up on a decade in the past, I think. Again, there are no excuses for words/actions like this, and he should suffer some type of punishment/ discipline as a result, but if he (or anyone else, for that matter) is genuinely contrite about the mistakes they've made, they deserve forgiveness.

Now, that doesn't mean he should be immediately welcomed back with open arms, but after a cooling off period, if they have made a legitimate change to their behavior, they should be allowed to interact with polite society again. If convicted felons can be rehabilitated, then people can change their behavior and once again be productive members of society.
What a refreshingly reasonable point of view.

As much as I liked Hogan as a wrestler, he kind of had this coming to him. There are a ton of guys in the business over the years that think he's a dirtbag.

The craziest thing about this revolves around how Gawker got the tapes. The destruction of Hulk Hogan wasn't even intended.

Bubba th Love Sponge was the target. A rival radio host conspired with a former member of Bubbas morning show (Spice Boy) to sell/leak the tape. They all worked for Cox Media at the time. It actually worked too. The radio station fired Bubba and replaced him with Cowhead. However, in the depositions it came out that the rival hosts (Cowhead) lawyer was the one who was shopping the tape. So all this to take down Bubba has ended up taking down Hogan.
Huh, never really knew about the Spice falling out. And now in googling it, I see that Brent is now a producer on H100/H101 (or at least was as of August 2014)

Not all that surprisng really, WWF back in the 80's really was racism central. Look at the characters the black wrestlers played. Papa Shango - a Voodoo Doctor, Kamala - Big stupid black guy from africa controlled by a white guy under a mask, Bad News Brown - Street thug from Harlem, Virgil - a servant to a rich white guy, Slick - the inner city street hustler and so on.
:bs:

What about Akeem the African Dream

I'm certain none of us have ever said the 'n word' before.
Again, it's not just about using the N word. Riley Cooper did that and he was welcomed back by the Eagles (and their black players) after some cursory racial sensitivity training and a fine. It's about doing it in a calm, casual conversation while also sharing thoughts that obviously show you think one race is inferior to other races. It's not a "mistake," it's a horrible character flaw.
Riley Cooper is still a pariah...when he gets drafted in my fantasy league this year, people will boo. Vick killed dogs, and he doesn't get as visceral of a reaction....

I want to know what Hogan's ( and Cosby's) lawyers did during these depositions.

"Oh, he's rambling about black people? Maybe I'll talk to him about that at the next break. I'm almost done with my Sudoku."
The tapes were released during the depositions or something. He didn't actually say this stuff during depos.
Ok. You still pull your client and call the judge.
:lmao: Jesus.

The 80s? Man, Cryme Tyme was a WWE act as recently as 2010.
But at least Vince is willing to let black wrestlers be the world champion now.
Who? I stopped watching 15 years ago. Are you gonna say The Rock?

I haven't watched for about 15 years or so either, but Mark Henry jumps to mind.

Mark Henry never held the belt. Amazingly, the WWE still has never had a black world champion (if you aren't counting the Rock who doesn't really self-identify as such).

Ya sure?

Since joining the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1996, he has become a one-time WWF European Champion and a two-time world champion, having held the ECW Championship in 2008,[24] and the World Heavyweight Championship in 2011.[25]

According to Gawker CEO Nick Denton there is. Denton stated the Hogan lawsuit would feature, a third act which we believe will center on the real story: the additional recordings held by the FBI, the information in them that is Hulk Hogans real secret, and irregularities in the recordings which indicate some sort of cover-up. In the way of so many news stories, the deeper you go, the more interesting it gets.

When The National Enquirer first released the transcript of Hogans racist rant, the website teased there would be more to come. It remains to be seen whether or not that refers to more of the same conversation Hogan had with Heather Clem, or something different altogether.

As noted, the racist comments made by Hogan to Clem were part of a sealed deposition being used in the ongoing lawsuit Hogan has against Gawker

So I guess The National Enquire is going to be trickling out stuff from the videos up until the trial starts in December.

Thanks to all my wrestling contacts, I've actually gotten a heads up on what this is. It really is quite the shocker.

He used steroids

Didn't he admit steroid use back in the 90's? I would think the only thing worse would be if the stuff be said about the Rock was true.

When I was a teenager, Hulk lived in the same town as me. I would see him riding his very hulkster inspired motorcycle around every once in awhile.

His wife was hot.

Hogan was wrong, and he had to go, just no way around it.

But that said, I can't believe these wrestling fans and commentators or podcast hosts, thinking of Cheap Heat and the LAW podcast guys, who have gone over the top with hand wringing apparently don't realize they've been watching the most undeniably racist mainstream media product out there.

I'm not a prude but my god I don't know how they didn't catch flack for this at the time:

Booker T has also won the belt.

No, no, I have the real inside scoop, and it's a shocker...

Despite the WWF always being honest about history, Hogan was not the first man to slam Andre the Giant. Video of all the times Andre has been slammed.

Same as before, Booker T only won the World Heavyweight, not the WWE.
point being, for the longest time, the only black champions in WWF history were Soul Patrol. Now, there are more. Signs that Vince is slowly easing up.
Easing up on those titles, sure. But his baby, the WWE title, is on a whole nother level. Don't expect to see an unquestionably black wwe champ while Vince runs things.

If that's not a band name...I don't know what is...

Considering that Vince had Rock in the Nation of Domination stable (a Nation of Islam ripoff) he seemed to think he was black. (after all, they were "Bigger, Badder, Better and Blacker")

It's like, how much more blacker could they be? The answer is none. None more black.
