Hulk Hogan (1 Viewer)

Hey Gawker, too bad you didn't take your vitamins and say your prayers, Brother!!!

Amazed there wasn't a thread already.  This is the definition of shadenfreude.  I read Gawker/Deadspin pretty regularly, and a verdict like this may very well have massive affects on how these outlets basically operate with no discipline/code/moral compass.

Good for you, Hulkster.  Dunno if you'll ever see that money, but good for you.

and the $115m does not account for punitive damages either, only for economic damages and emotional damages

The same jurors still have to convene on the possible punitive damages as well next week.

I realize he won't likely receive the full amount but what type of money can Hulk expect out of this?

It's a lot of money, but they did publish a sex tape that- one that was recorded without Hogan's knowledge or consent.
A sex tape of him having sex with his friend's wife while saying racist stuff. No question it crushed his reputation and hurt his future earnings. And when asked, then ordered to take down the tape, Gawker thumbed their nose and continued to make it prominent on their site and mock Hogan.

It's incredible just how stupid Gawker was in this case. They had to know that they had no legal leg to stand on.

no comment on his bandanna?  Thats a lay up guys
Well, I'll tell you Mean Gene, you don't need to tell me about the bandana, brother.  All the little millions of Hulkamaniacs out there can let you know that the bandana is a symbol of my strength, brother.

There were threads, they were lost in the "upgrade." Anything that takes out these publications from the left is awesome by me.

What in the hell am I missing here?  115 MILLION!!!!!!?

Side note, why in the hell is he still wearing a bandanna and how does the judge allow it?

Florida is one weird legal state.
He filed an injunction to be allowed to wear the bandana. They agreed to it as long as it was plain colored and had no writing or graphics on it.

I think Gawker lost that case the moment they stated that they draw the line at posting a sex tape of a 4-year-old.  I don't know if it was a joke, but they lost the jury there.

AJ Daulerio.

Probably the dumbest moment of testimony in American civil court history. Staggering.

About $5

Seems to sum up a pretty good mentality. Written by former collegiate pricks for current and would-be collegiate pricks.

I can't believe he said that.

The jury handed out the punitive damages.  I think 10mil for Denton & 100k for AJ Daulerio, who owes $25k in student loans.  Ouch!

The Denton guy just seems like a real piece of work.  This really couldn't have happened to a better group of people.

Looks like Sol Rosenberg is up next.

Strange but wonderful country we live in

Hulk gets 115m because someone showed a sex tape while Innocent men wrongfully incarcerated for 18-20 years get a fraction of that if anything

I think he still wears it for two reasons:

1) To cover up his bald head.

2) He has lived as Hulk Hogan for so long that he basically lives as the Hulk Hogan character.  He can no longer differentiate between Hulk Hogan and Terry Bollea.

They never did say, and no he didn't.
Spice boy stole the tape & gave it to Bubba's co-worker at the time, Cowhead the host of the afternoon show.  Cowhead gave it to his agent Burton.  The plan was to take out Bubba out, so Cowhead could replace him in the mornings, then Spice, who quit Bubba show to go host his own night show on the same station, would slide into Cowheads afternoon spot.

There was an investigation where Spice boy admitted it.  He got his wife's high school friend to sell the tape for him for 8k, and gave her $500.

The police report is here.  It's the 2nd police report down.

The craziest thing about the entire story is that Hulk Hogan was destroyed, and Bubba was the real target.

Article giving rough Gawker financial figures.

Yeah, this might crush them. Good, get better lawyers/advisors next time you want to refuse to play ball with someone with the resources to do exactly what Hulk Hogan is doing.
so this rulling will basically leave them insolvent without an IPO or fiancial backer.  In an ironical twist, the hulkster could end up as a majority owner of the site if he took equity as a partial payement of the judgment.

This thing isn't anywhere near over.  Besides the appeals, there will be a bunch of civil suits.  Bubba will probably sue cox media, Cowhead, Spice, and the agent Burton.  Probably the agency he works for as well.  Hogan will probably sue them all as well.

I know who Hulk Hogan is.  Who are all these other guys?  D-List Wrestlers?

I was replying to a quote regarding who stole the tape.  The characters are all local radio people.  I don't even think any of them would be considered D list celebrity's.  Tampa is like the 21st biggest radio market.

Sort of how like the guy who played the Lone Ranger went to court to be able to wear the mask all the time back in the day.

All in all, though, it is a powerful move in court because it keeps the idea in the center ring that this is a media vs. celebrity act. Think it is important to keep that in mind here.

It doesn't surprise me that the "former" editor didn't go out of his way to say all the right things. Must be some bad blood in the room there and he really didn't have a lot on the line personally there compared to his former boss.  There are probably a lot of people who would pay a dollar to stick it to a former employer if every dollar they spent cost their employer 10,000.

Whatcha gonna do, brother, when Hulkamania runs off with your millions????

Only thing that would have made that jury decision better would have been if they would have announced it and then Randy Savage would have popped up way in the back and said "OH YEAH!"
