I dont get the high rankings on guys like Jennings and Nicks. (1 Viewer)

Jennings is concussed and in a situation with a lot of mouths to feed. Nicks is always injured and just able to start practicing from his injury last year. Seems like there are certain players who are always ranked high based on their name values without much thought given to their actual situations.

Nicks's injury wasn't from last year. Nicks was healthy and broke a bone in his foot during OTA's. His recovery has gone 11 weeks about what was expected. He is required by the CBA to wait 3 days before participating in team practices. So, he will be back on Monday's practice.

both of those guys are studs on great passing teams.

Hakeem Nicks - 24 years old, has already posted stat lines like 79/1000/11 and 76/1200/7, and like you say that's while he's been injured. The guy has a pretty high floor, and if he's healthy all year/ everything clicks right (again, this is only his 4th year in the league), he's a Top 5 capable WR available in the late-3rd to middle-4th.

Greg Jennings - Only 29, great offense, years of consistent production...the TDs are spotty, but he's posted 12 TD seasons twice in the last 5 years, and 9 twice

right, so use it your advantage, I'd rather have Cruz and Jordy and the cost is cheaper.Although I think Cruz & Nicks ADP is very close
Cruz/Nelson/Nicks are all right there at the late 3rd/early 4th swing. Jennings is going a good bit earlier- late 2nd/early 3rd...which is a surprise to me after looking it up. I'd rather have Nicks out of all of them.

Jennings is typically going higher than I would like in mocks, but Nicks has been going in the third or fourth. Seems like the injury concerns are factored into his adp.

I'm with this line of thought. These guys are rock solid studs who have had a few blips of injuries. Nicks hasn't actually missed much time and plays through his injuries, which is what I would prefer in fantasy.Jennings has been underrated this offseason. His injury was only a 2 week deal last year but they kept him out because they were already in the playoffs - why risk it? In 12 games the guy had 900/9 and was crushing at 18+ PPG in PPR. If you want to avoid him b/c of the concussion that's fine but keep in mind 5 years ago he would have been practicing a few days after it happened. The slipping in ADP is unwarranted, IMO, and I would gladly pick up either of them in the 3rd. This reminds me of Foster's slipping in ADP due to his minor leg injury before the season. Sure he missed a few games, but then he completely crushed after that and won many people their leagues.

I understand the concern over Jennings' concussion, because it isn't five years ago. Even if he would have been practicing already in the former NFL, there is a huge risk in today's NFL...because another concussion could cost him many games. People used to play through ACL tears as well, but in the current NFL, we all know how that goes.

I'm not sure I get what this thread is about.

Nicks and Jennings are part of an extremely large tier of 1A/1B WR types who are all capable of finishing top 10 (Nicks, Jennings, Cruz, Nelson, Roddy, Dez, etc.). I would even throw in guys like Harvin, Smiff and maybe a few others currently ranked anywhere from WR 7-15.

At the present time, it is impossible to separate this group, yet FF drafts require us to do rankings (you gotta pick someone before someone else). An argument can be made for any one of these guys, and projections can't be relied upon to provide separation in the rankings.

Therefore people naturally look to "other factors" to assess each one's risk and provide separation. These factors are intangible and many and include name recognition (i.e. trust level), current injury situation, track record (e.g. Jordy and Cruz only one year performance), perceived upside potential, even preseason performance.

How an individual applies the intangible factors can vary greatly. That's why you see stuff like Nicks and Cruz with ADP of 24 and 36 respectively, in the FBG "expert" ADP, yet there ranking is reversed (37 and 32) in the FF calculator ADP.

Nicks is a PPG beast and right in the middle of his prime.

I've never liked Jennings, told everybody he would bust last year, or was at least an unecessary risk...lacks the talent of most of the other top WRs. No thanks.

He didn't say he got it right.Nicks is probably a top pick because he's healthy and awesome. Just a guess.

How was he a bust? Almost 1000 yards and 9 touchdowns in 13 games, I am sure you predicted his injury. Last four years 291 catches, 4619 yards, and 34 touchdowns average it out and you get 73 catches for 1155 yards and 8 touchdowns a year. He is horrible.

He said it right there. He's never liked his game, consistently for years. I think part of the reason Jennings hasn't fallen much if at all is there is a LOT of info storming out of the preseason right now. Austin Miles hammy, Witten spleen, AP rehab, Pittsburgh RB's - I think a lot of people (myself among them) are merely waiting to see how a lot of these things shake out. If Jennings looks good to start Game 1, I like him. If not, he slides to the bottom of that WR 7-18 tier.

You may never have liked him but when he is #1 on the team with the best QB you can't not have him up there. The only way he is a bust is you think Jordy and Cobb pass him on the depth chart which still isn't happening this year.

Doesnt this exact thread already exist?

They are ranked so high because on top of being top 10 WRs, they also have massive ppgs.

Nicks plays hurt, hes a man. Jennings is fine, and not having to play the rest of preseason just means he wont get hurt.

I think Nicks is a steal at his ADP.

What isn't to like, he is regarded as one of the best route runners in the game, he can beat you deep, he catches plenty of touchdowns in the redzone, and he is the number 1 target to arguably the best quarterback back in the league. Nice job of avoiding the part about Jennings being a bust last year. (Which is dead wrong)

So why would you draft them over a Brandon Marshall given their ADPs are the same....or over a Steve Smith that you get much later.

Well I would start with them being better WRs.Add to that, better offenses, better quarterbacks.

Marshall will catch 100 passes something none of these 2 WRs have done. Marshall has less competition for passes. He will play with a Qb that thrives with him in a system they both know.....and will play a cup cake of a schedule. Marshall is more talented than these 2 (again go see historic production over longer period of time and consistent production). Both Nicks and Jennings have injury plagued careers; something Marshall does not.....please bring some facts to the table

I've really got to agree with the thread premise. Out of 40 or so mocks I've ran I don't think I've taken either guy even once.

The thing that strikes me as funny about this is that is the same reason some people are downgrading Roddy White - only the number 29 is usually preceded by "already" instead of "only".That is all.

Well, that and the fact that Roddy White is actually 30 and will be 31 in November.

According to this...Jennings - 3.03

Marshall - 3.04

Nicks - 3.12

Smiff - 4.06

I'll take Nicks in an instant over both Jennings and Marshall. Smiff looks like a nice pick, too.

*shrug* Was trying to be nice....but really, the whole point is HE DON'T LIKE JENNINGS. Period, amen. If he does good, it's a fluke/due to other factors. If he does poorly, then by god he was RIGHT and Jennings sucks. I'm sure he'll predict doom for him again this year.Me, I like Packer WR's, have since the Robert Brooks days. I'll be happy to get Jennings at a hopefully cheaper price as long as nothing more comes out against him medically. I'm very tempted to go with Cobb as well.

Hes so bad, only 61% for 5000 yards... what a joke.
You're comparing him to a rookie and a guy that has never had the wr talent Eli has, not even in Denver.
Your point being? When I said better teams with better quarterbacks I didnt secretly mean excluding rookies...

Greg Jennings - Only 29, great offense, years of consistent production...the TDs are spotty, but he's posted 12 TD seasons twice in the last 5 years, and 9 twice
The thing that strikes me as funny about this is that is the same reason some people are downgrading Roddy White - only the number 29 is usually preceded by "already" instead of "only".That is all.
Well, that and the fact that Roddy White is actually 30 and will be 31 in November.
Well, that too... :bag:
I do get your point though and think there is some merit to it. Roddy and Jennings aren't *that* far apart in age and yet people seem to be burying Roddy, though it may have more to do with Julio Jones being perceived as such as stud as any genuine decline in White's skills.

both of those guys are studs on great passing teams. Hakeem Nicks - 24 years old, has already posted stat lines like 79/1000/11 and 76/1200/7, and like you say that's while he's been injured. The guy has a pretty high floor, and if he's healthy all year/ everything clicks right (again, this is only his 4th year in the league), he's a Top 5 capable WR available in the late-3rd to middle-4th.Greg Jennings - Only 29, great offense, years of consistent production...the TDs are spotty, but he's posted 12 TD seasons twice in the last 5 years, and 9 twice
So why would you draft them over a Brandon Marshall given their ADPs are the same....or over a Steve Smith that you get much later.
Well I would start with them being better WRs.Add to that, better offenses, better quarterbacks.
ELI's accuracy sucks
I would agree if this were 2006. But now, you're wrong.
