I find myself in an interesting situation due to forfeit (1 Viewer)

I screwed up my roster moves last evening which resulted in a forces forfeit. We do a silent auction and where we have to cut players before the auction. I cut 5 guys including a defense to free up cap space in the silent auction. We are allowed 2 Qb, 3 RB, 4 we, 2 te, 2k, 2d, and one utility spot that can be anything. So the way I ordered my picks last night made it so I was short a defense and had an extra te. I didn't think the league would allow me to do this but it did. Our bylaw states that if you incorrectly fill you roster, you forfeit that weeks game.

So I screwed the pooch. Tried to make it right immediately when I saw what happened by had one owner catch it and tattle. It was an honest mistake and I had Nile Paul on my roster for 2 minutes.

Do you think I should have to forfeit or should I fight it?

I didn't fight it. I am all about the rules. However that leads me to my situation. Since I already forfeit this week, I now have the ability to dump my 2nd kicker to roster Mike Evans without repercussion, right? So I essentially get to carry 4rb, 5wr, and 3te while everyone else has to roster 3,4, and 2 with one utility. Because they are required to roster 2 k and 2. D. Would you press this advantage?

Also player picked up and dropped this week are frozen so if I wanted, I could go scorched Earth and add and drop a bunch of guys so they'd be available to me next week. How far would you push this.

You're forced to drop players before you pick one up?

Yes, dumb rule
yes. We can't figure out how to set it otherwise. Like if I have $5 in cap space and I drop a $3 player, it only allows me to bid $5 for that transaction. It does make it pretty crazy though. The strategizing is pretty fun actually.

what an incredibly dumb league set-up. you need to get that changed as quickly as possible to allow way more freedom to owners

1) I'm a "spirit of the law rather than letter of the law" kind of guy, so I would petition the commissioner to avoid a forfeit.

2) If my petition was denied, I would gladly drop both of my defenses and kickers to roster extra players at QB/RB/WR/TE.

3) Adding/dropping players you have no intention of rostering just to lock them is dirty pool and would get you kicked out of any of my leagues immediately.

I am petitioning the league to change the rule from 2QB, 3RB, 4WR, 2TE, 2K, 2D, and one utility to

2QB, 4RB, 5 WR, 2TE, 2K, 2D.

That way we can program the rule so you are forced to have a legal roster.

I just posted this on the site: FWIW my mom and my sister have both recently found out they have cancer. Outlook is kind of bleak actually.

I'd like to ask forbearance on the rule I bagged up last night. I screwed up some picks in my silent auction resulting in me having Niles Paul instead of a defense. I tried to rectify the situation immediately but apparently some owners were all over the commish about it. So I'd like to ask to be able to submit and play this week despite my mistake. I just made a mistake. I have a lot on my mind.

Uh, so you want them to change the lineup rules mid-season to include an extra WR after you just picked up, presumably, the best available WR for a kicker? Good luck with that.

Nah, I actually just asked for an exception. See above bolded.

I don't see anything bolded or anything about an exception. How is changing roster requirements for the entire league an exception?

uhh then dont join any of my leagues... that is just plain strategy not dirty pool... edit: my bad I read that wrong. I thought you meant just to roster them not to lock them.

Yeah I didn't pick anyone up just to lock them. If I wanted them, I'd already have them as they are there for the picking.

Okay, I see now. You're kind of all over the place in here so I'll just say good luck and leave it at that.

Well damn, now I see that about cancer and I feel bad for saying that. Very sorry to hear and I think that is a very good reason to ask for an exception.

You started off by saying you are about the rules. Then you went and got all pissy and whiny because you got busted. Take the forfeit, follow the spirit of the rules and move on. Then when the time is right, change the rule because that is a stupid stupid rule.

Sorry to hear that, Sabretooth :(
Yes, very sorry to hear it. Hope they both are able to pull through.

Sorry to hear about your family Sabertooth. Those are tough things to be going through, I wish you all the best.

I agree with Adam that you certainly didn't violate the spirit of the rule, and it's a dumb rule to begin with, so I think any reasonable commissioner should let you fix the mistake and play this weekend.

Sorry I can talk about the actual topic of the forfeit, I cant get past how ridiculous of a rule that is to have. Wish you the best in future issues you will no doubt have with this rule.

Yeah it's dumb. I'll propose a change in the offseason. If they don't want to change, I'll probably drop out at that point.
