Our family is getting together tomorrow for Thanksgiving. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow between tonight and tomorrow. One child and her spouse came from Minnesota (4 hours away) last night to beat the storm (we were expecting them). Now another child and his spouse who live 30 miles away decided to crash here along with their 3 children (13, 10 and 4 plus the 13 yr old brought a friend) and another son 60 miles away also decided to crash tonight. We have 1 more and her spouse coming tomorrow because the couldn't leave the dogs home alone that long and I had to put my foot down somewhere.

I am not used to having this many people in my house for this long. I love them all to death, but I think I might go crazy with the chaos. It's too bad I don't drink, because that might come in handy in a time like this.

I love kids. My child like personality usually translates to nephews and nieces always drawn to me and looking to play. I enjoy kid time. Having said all that, i need breaks. I need my later evening and mornings peaceful. Not having that break sounds horrible to me. 8am to 6pm I'm a rockstar with chaos. After hours please get out of my house and leave me alone. Ha ha

Yeah, I used to be the fun uncle. Now those nieces and nephews have their own kids but I’ve thrown in the towel. I actually apologized to my favorite niece recently, telling her that I’m sorry I’m not the same guy she got. lol.

I still get my time in with them one on one but only when they don’t have another kid to play with.

The final one and her husband made it for the get together today. My heart is full having all 5 kids home. It has been a couple of years since they have all been here at once. Turkey and ham on the pitboss turned out great. Wife made cheesy hashbrowns, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, corn and stuffing. Mother in law brought over deviled eggs and Snicker salad.

However, they are all staying tonight as well. It wouldn't be so bad if my 29 year old son wasn't such an ### and didn't hog the xbox downstairs so the grandkids could play downstairs for a while.

Wait, what? You can cheese a hashbrown? How does this happen and I don't know about it?
It is a thing. And they are amazing.
It is a family get together staple at our house. One of the kid's (except the youngest) most favorite dishes.

This a for a large family batch recipe:

2 cups sour cream
1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup melted butter
1 TBS garlic salt
1 30 oz bag of hash browns (wife usually thaws them out)
2 cups shredded cheese

Combine above ingredients and place in pan.
Top with corn flakes and butter

Bake at 350 uncovered for approx 45 minutes

Yes, this and tell us more about the Snicker salad the Mother in law brought..and is she single?
ETA- Never mind, I'm not....so it doesn't matter.
I've been focusing on losing weight for the last while, so I indulge in food porn now. I look at indulgent recipes and pictures of the food.

That's not cheesy hashbrowns. That's a casserole! And it sounds amazing. And really bad for you- always the best kind of food.

It has apples in it so it is somewhat healthy. :lmao:

I don't know the exact recipe (can get it for you if you want) but It has vanilla pudding, cool whip, chopped up snickers bars and Apples. Really easy to make and tastes very good.
