I have watched every Alien, Predator and Terminator movie in a row. 20 films... AMA (1 Viewer)

It was not a great over all experience. The highs were magnificent but there were so many lows in the 20 films, it is amazing they keep getting made.

This is the order I watched them in.

Alien Universe:

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, Alien: Romulus

Predator Universe:

Predator, Predator 2, Predators, The Predator, Prey

Alien vs Predator Universe:

Alien vs Predator, Alien vs Predator Requiem

Terminator Universe:

Terminator, Terminator 2, Terminator 3, Terminator Salvation, Terminator Genisys, Terminator Dark Fate

Ask me anything...

1. At what age can my kids watch Alien? (Internal debate between me and the warden).

2. Favorite reveal of the aliens in the entire series?

I've seen all those except Prey. How good/bad is it?
Relatively speaking, Prey was pretty decent. I believe they are working on a second Prey. I enjoyed Predators more than most people but in terms of just pure quality, I think Prey is better and the second best Predator behind the original (IMO).

The Alien and Predator franchises seem to be in far better shape since both Romulus and Prey were relatively well received by the fans.

Terminator is coming off of 3 straight failed new Trilogy starts in a row and they may never recover. Dark Fate lost a crap ton of money.

The most intriguing part of my journey was reading about James Cameron lamenting over and over again how badly Alien 3 screwed up by killing Newt and effectively invalidating Aliens and then watching Cameron write a direct squeal to Terminator 2 where he
kills John in the opening scene.

1) This is a very difficult question as it will vary greatly for different kids. Alien is much more in the pure horror genre than its sequels IMO. Alien is also quite a slow burn, which I think might be boring for kids if they are too young to stay with.

2) I can't think of any that stand out above the others. None really caught me completely off guard that I can remember. Do you have a favorite?

How are they linked, pray tell?
They are all separate Universes.

They are tangentially linked by Lance Henricksen and Bill Paxton, who are the only actors to be killed by an Alien, a Predator and a Terminator.

Note that Paxton is not actually shown dying in the first Terminator but it is assumed he is killed in the opening scene.

Thank you for your answwer. I was wondering where Terminator came into it for sure, but now I know why. I'd never think to make a connection like that. Which leads me to another question: How much and why do you like these movies?

Any answer (even ignoring :) ) is fine. I just never dug movies like this and am interested in the mindset. I did see Aliens in a theater as a youngster and had had quite enough by the end. I think I ate so much popcorn I had stomach issues from the butter (heh, dumb kid).

I am a scifi/fantasy fan at my core and I typically enjoy a mix of action and sci fi.

My two favorite movies in the series, by a large margin, are Aliens and T2.

Had that awesome Guns N' Roses song after a long layoff of rock tunes by them ("Patience" had come out, but that was a ballad). Decent movie, IMO.

I'm so lazy that I don't even watch cinema/movies anymore. I can't make it through one movie, so I can't imagine that many hours of a franchise/tangentially related type of stuff. Good effort.

This was nothing. You should see the Star Wars marathon my daughter and I are about to undertake for the next X months or more. lol

12 movies and 17 seasons of TV.

LOL. That might either be the greatest bonding experience or a "Daaaaaaad, do we have to watch Star Wars again?"

I'm kidding. Best of luck and I hope you both enjoy the heck out of it.

she is 25, so she knows what she is getting into with the old man! lol

We both agreed we can call for a long pause when needed :)

Do you have a short list of best comedic moments from those films, whether intentional or otherwise?

T2 bar scene has to be a top three, right?

The Terminator series carries almost all of the comedy from those group of movies, almost entirely with Arnold. Some cringe, some decent. The T2 knee cap scene was my favorite ("he'll live").

There was suppose to be some comedy in Predator2 but it was at best weak with Paxton trying but failing to do the heavy lifting.

There is very very little humor in the Alien movies.

The original Predator movie has some all time great lines like "I ain't got time to bleed" and while they make you smile, they are not really comedy.

Terminator vs Predator in a desert environment. Who wins?
Which Terminator?
yes this is important. I don't think the Predator can kill a T1000 with their regular explosives.
Let's go with the original T1 version
If the Predator has access to his full weaponry, specifically his Plasma Caster, he wins this easily from distance. The only possible advantage the T800 has would be hand to hand but the Predator should be able to stay out of range easy enough.

That assumes the Predator would recognize the Terminator heat signature as an enemy, doesn't it?

It has never been stated in the movies one way or another but their helmets appear to allow them to see in various ways including the iconic heat seeking.

But in this case, the Predators will not be hunting so there is no real need for their helmet to have heat seeking vision. The Terminator is never going to hide or run, they will always be in full site at all times. In almost every movie a predator has been with out its helmet and they appear to see the way humans do.

First of all, how are you?
Guess I'm getting old. I know (or at least think I know) his name was Chris. I think he went to the University of Florida. He had large, very white teeth. Did wrestling, sports, and celeb interviews with that awesome opening line. I can't come up with his last name. His website was something like c(whatever the last initial is)interview.com.

CHRIS YANDEK! Take that old age!

Good for him, he's still at it: https://cyinterview.com/author/chrisyandek/

Alien Universe:

Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, Alien: Romulus

Predator Universe:

Predator, Predator 2, Prey

Terminator Universe:

Terminator, Terminator 2, Terminator 3
These are all I would ever recommend watching.

Prometheus is very imperfect but I like Noomi Rapace's performance and there are some interesting ideas - and it looks pretty cool.

I wish T3 didn't have Nick Stahl but I think it's a lot of fun.
