I just Laid all my chips down for Eddie Royal in Blind Bid (1 Viewer)

OK, let's see. 14 team PPR league that starts 3 WR's. This was a good move for you. First:

1) 14 teams? That's a big league. Pickens are going to be slim. Even if you had bid just $1 more than the other bid with guys like Orton going for $101 you probably only get one more WW player all season.

2) PPR league. The guy had what, 9 catches? Money

3) Start 3 WR's!?!?! That's 42 WR's and only 32 teams. That means that 10 WR2's are starting in that league every week and even more during bye weeks. During weeks 4 and 7 with 6 teams on byes there are at least 16 WR2's starting. And then think about the WR1's on teams that aren't any good. The Jags, Baltimore, Tampa, Chicago, etc.

Good move....

this is impossible to answer without knowing about your team.

some may call it overkill, but blind bid free-agency is all about taking the shot when it's there and being right. chances are, there will be 2-4 RBs come along that will be difference makers. if you don't foresee yourself needing one of those, then i think you likely made a wise purchase in royal.

if a RB will likely not be what you need, then there is only one question: will there be another WR FA come along that will be more valuable than royal?

i don't foresee that happening.

if royal is the impact WR we (i) think he can be, no amount of money is too much. i'd have saved a few bucks for minor pickups, but in principle, i don't think what you did is too bad.
Heres my team... Bolded the startersLine up is QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 WR/RB, TE, K

Ben Roethlisberger PIT QB

Kellen Clemens (IR) NYJ QB

Kevin Kolb (IR) PHI QB

Tarvaris Jackson MIN QB

Ben is a solid starter, I'm in need of a better back up

Chris Henry TEN RB

J.J. Arrington ARI RB

Jerious Norwood ATL RB

LaMont Jordan NWE RB

Marion Barber DAL RB

Michael Turner ATL RB

Pierre Thomas NOR RB

Reggie Bush NOR RB

RBs are set for now, I have Bush's and Turner's back ups.

Bernard Berrian MIN WR

Eddie Royal DEN WR

Kevin Curtis PHI WR

Reggie Wayne IND WR

Ronald Curry OAK WR

Shaun McDonald DET WR

Vincent Jackson SDG WR

Maybe after seeing my WRs, you can see why I did this. I need a guy like Royal, or at least take a shot on what looked like a very talented WR. My WR2 was Curtis as weak as that sounds... and hes hurt.

Chris Cooley

Greg Olsen

When Marshall comes back... I'm not going to expect a huge night like Monday. But Good players produce, especially when their in good offenses. Eddie looked like hes going to be great.

Like I said in an earlier post, one guy admitted that he bidded $860+ for him... so all you poster in here saying that you would of only done half your wad or less would not have Royal on your team this morning. Yes, I'll miss out on picking up someones #3 RB when the starter goes done, most back up RB are already owned... or I'll miss my chance at the #4 WR on a team when he gets his shot at the end of the yr. Or I'll miss out on the next Matt Moore this yr.... Poor me.

this was also an "know your opponent move"; A couple of People in this league aren't afraid of spending thier whole wad on one player; last yr... one guy did this for D Ward after BJ got hurt in game 1.

And heres some highlights of the Bids that processed.

$387 Anthony Fasano, TE (MIA)

$67 John Carlson, TE (SEA)

$300 J.T. O'Sullivan, QB (SFO)

$400 Matt Cassel, QB (NWE)

$1,000 Brett Favre, QB (NYJ) guy already hade Rivers and Campbell too

$201 Josh Morgan, WR (SFO)

$101 Kyle Orton, QB (CHI)
Seeing your team, I can understand why you made the move.....still find it surprising that in a league that deep, Eddie Royal was not drafted....but I think all in all your move was a good move for your team....

I just heard that apparently in that league the intent was for lowest bid to get the player. So now the commish has updated the rule to clear up any further confusion. So you will be losing Royal to the guy who bid 800+. Sorry for the confusion.

:goodposting: yeap.. the wording of the rules published was incorrect, sorry for any "mis-leading" language. Now Bend over

I'm still happy w/ him... hes the #2 Rookie WR so far, I would gladdly do this move again.

Just wait, Tony S will get hurt at some point, he usually misses a couple of games. Next season, if these charges hold, Marshall may get a big suspension

on the flip side, you might be dead by next year too. So yeah, lots of possibilities, both favorable and unfavorable...

I had posted overkill before I knew it was a dynasty. I wouldn't have done it but, then, I wouldn't have Royal either. So, kudos, hope it works for you.

I have learned the last 3 years to place ALL the chips on the first player you see go off each year. I did this with Hightower and Breaston in every dynasty league they were available this year. Congrats to Royal's owners. You got yourself a nice gem.

does anyone else want to say that this was foolish????
Has the rest of your team stayed healthy? With the way QB's and DEN RB's are going down, you may want to cross your fingers and keep praying.

I have been very lucky.. I was able to trade for Orton and Cassel, I traded for TO / Curtis / DMac / Deuce all for depth.the 1st week Parker got hurt, Moore cleared waivers and I picked him up... I picked up a lot of back up QBs a week or 2 before the starter got hurt.

In my defense, I said it was overkill before you specified it was a dynasty. I still thinking blowing your wad in wk 2 is not a smart move, but this one has obviously worked out for you, so, congrats.
