I just made you King of the USA for a day and you get to make 3 laws - what would they be ? (1 Viewer)

using a cancer stick as a treatment ? now that's a new one .... will vapor cig's not do the same then ?
I don't know about the vapor cigs.  I have had a couple of friends whose doctor's have suggested a morning cigarette or two would help with appetite and ease their morning pooping.  These are people who ended up having several feet of their intestines/bowels removed and things were pretty dire for both at the time.

When I said repeal regulations, I wasn't referring to background checks to prevent  people with mental illness from getting guns. Apparently that was a priority for the House.

1. End the war on drugs.

2. Put body cameras on all police officers in the field.

3. Get rid of all occupational licensing requirements.

(Numbers one and three could stand a great deal of nuance, but I like my laws to be able to fit on bumper stickers.)

3. Get rid of all occupational licensing requirements.
The leg bone's connected to the hip bone, the hip bone's connected to the...red thing. The red thing's connected to my...wristwatch...uh oh.

Don't worry, Homer. I have a fool proof strategy to get you out of here: surprise witnesses, each more surprising than the last. I tell you, the judge won't know what hit him!

If you think only qualified people should be hired for certain important tasks such as performing hip-replacement surgeries, well, you're entitled to your opinion ... which happens to also be my opinion, so I guess we agree on that. But "licensed" and "qualified" do not describe identical sets of people. It's probably pretty close in medicine*, but probably not very close at all in something like cosmetology.

*Although maybe not. If medicine is like law in this regard, it's possible that nurses could competently do a number of things that only doctors are currently licensed to do, or that technicians could competently do a number of things that currently require at least a nurse's license.

Hey, did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College too? And remember, if you're not sure about something, rub it against a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, it's your window to weight gain.

1. Tax churches just like any other business.

2. Eliminate daylight savings nonsense.

3. Free college or trade school.
4. Get rid of toll roads and toll booths.

5. Columbus Day, gone.

6. Dollar bill replaced by dollar coin. Penny, gone.

7. Hikers who go to dangerous areas prepay for their rescue. Reimbursed if not needed.

I would like to subscribe to your newsletter on 1-6.

However, 7. would keep bobcats from eating hippies. I don't think I can get behind that.

8. No New cemeteries. Waste of perfectly good real estate. The existing ones can stay if it would make the Italians happy.

9. Death With Dignity laws nationwide.

For a growing number of Americans in the rust belt, the economy is already crushed.  They live in run down cities with few job prospects, real estate collapsed, schools are terrible, drugs are rampant, and the future looks bleak.  Who exactly are you threatening with that comment?
Is this the middle verse from springsteen's The River?

Happy 4th of July!

11. No more SOTU address.

1. Mandatory 2-week paid vacation for all employees working at least 25 hours/week and mandatory 4 week paid maternity & paternity leave.

2. Decriminalize possession of all drugs.

3. Dramatically divert public funding for college students toward STEM degrees & trade schools (like 90-95%) as these are the fields that will be the most beneficial to our future society.

12. Replace the Pro Bowl with something interesting (e.g. 2 worst teams play for the 1st round pick).

2 weeks paid vacation is garbage. Should be 4+ weeks.

4 weeks paternity I can get behind, but maternity leave should be in the months, not weeks. No way we should have women going back to work so quickly after giving birth

Lots of people don't get any or get only 1 week paid vacation, even after a year or two. This would be a dramatic change in some industries and 4 weeks would be a very tough pill for employers to swallow without some kind of federal assistance.

Also, the maternity/paternity needs to be equal, IMO. Limits some of the hidden gender gap issues and allows for fathers to be more involved with their children.  Also, many employers have either no policy or a 2-week max paid.  Many women just use up their vacation/sick time or take it unpaid.  4 weeks would be a pretty dramatic improvement, especially if the father gets time as well.

If you're the QB of one of those teams, do you throw a bunch of picks intentionally?

Teams have to switch QBs to avoid this type of shenanigans.

And I would make it that the winning team (losing QB) gets the number one overall pick, meanwhile the losing team (winning QB) is picking number 32. Really make it worth something.

1. Reinvent the FDA and provide a real food safety framework versus "generally recognized as safe".

2. Reinvent infrastructure commitment to preventative mental health care.

3. Establish a loophole-free federal revenue collection process that eliminates the robber baron class.

saving hundreds of thousands of lives from death and disease and billion in medical care is a waste?

oooooooooooooooookay .... if you say so
Wait, you're for banning tobacco but opposing vaccine mandates? Assuming my understanding is correct, can you please explain how you distinguish the two issues?

I think it will be years before we know everything about these covid shots

What we do know is that they don't keep you from getting the virus - they're not a vaccine in the traditional sense. We know that many many who have had the shots were not going to get covid bad anyway and we can toss those numbers out the window because they're irrelevant.

I personally believe that of the almost 1 million who've died from covid, a large % would have anyway regardless of the shots.

I'm not against the vaccines decades proven, the mRNA ones are new, they were rushed through and so because of all that and the above, I'd not mandate them.

I appreciate the response. I thought maybe you saw a philosophical difference between the two but it sounds like you distinguish the two for factual differences as opposed to philosophical.

Frankly, unless my perception of your political leanings is wrong (I understand you to be conservative), I'm surprised that you are in favor of the government restricting somebody's choice as to whether to put something potential harmful in his or her body.

I do believe in freedom, I've lost a lot of faith in people making sane choices

I mean I'm going to sell you a product - and I'll tell you up front it causes cancer, it'll harm your health overall like skin, teeth, lungs, sense of smell/taste etc, your hygiene will suffer, it'll cost you tens of thousands of dollars because you'll get addicted and likely will not quit, ..... and millions of people say hell yes, I'll take me some of that good stuff !

its idiotic - ESPECIALLY since the lungs are not designed to breath water, lava, dirt or SMOKE

I'm against killing innocent life - but if we can ban harmful things like asbestos and lead paint, DDT and Roundup ... why tobacco is allowed like its allowed baffles my mind

Lots of interesting suggestions with the goal of improving the country. However, I think you're all playing your hands incorrectly, here are my 3 new laws:

-An unrepealable tax of 2% on ALL income (corporate and individual) above one million dollars annually goes directly to me

-A perpetual and enduring grant of complete and total legal immunity to myself

-A grant of all federal lands to me

Pretty sure I could actually do more to improve the country with these 3 laws than anything else. Or, I could chose to be selfish AF with it. Up to me :)

Work hard for the things you need in life.

Don't be an ####### to people. Treat people the way you want to be treated

2 beer daily minimum.

1.  4 day work week.

2.  Flat tax rate thinking 18-20% (don't hold me to that number, just throwing something out there).  No deductions or loopholes.

3.  Federal and State government budgets must always be balanced.

HM: 4. No foreign aid while we have National debt.  I'm not debt financing donations to other countries.

All right, I think some of you are being deliberately confused here. So let make it more simple. All food that isn't in the fruits, vegetables, or protein departments gets a .50 cent tax. There could be exceptions but the goal is to tax unhealthy food and try and force better eating habits. Just as we've done with cigarettes.
Who made you king?! 😀

Mozzarella isn't so bad, at least as cheese goes.

If someone only ate protein that can be unhealthy so tax protein too.

I like most of these.  Not 100% behind the no foreign aid one, but I get the idea.

Love the 4 day work week and I'm really coming around on a flat tax

Which flat tax?

"Flat Tax" = No deductions, all types of income treated identically, just divide by the rate

  --or--

"Flat Tax" = All people pay the same rate, regardless of income/wealth

1) A bipartisan permanent commission annually selects the 3-5 most accurate news reporting sources and awards them with cash collected from the 3-5 least accurate news reporting sources. If fines are not paid they lose their FCC license. The individual that presents the least accurate news gets one of their fingernails tore off

2)A bipartisan commission selects congressional districts in all states.  A bipartisan judicial court is setup to review disputes and confirm the districts.

3)A code of ethics ( very specific code)would be established for members of Congress and the same bipartisan judicial court would do the censuring, committee removal or outright removal from Congress.
