SF should also trade away Gore. They're not going to win it all this year and they could get some pretty good pieces for the future and make do with the backups for another year.

yeah it's always a great idea to trade away your best player in his prime. the niners are going to win their division. they have a lot to play for.

Their best player is Willis. It's not even close. Vernon Davis might be #2. Rb's can be replaced fairly easily and they don't last long.

The Crabtree comment was made in frustration more than anything. Vick >> Smith. With a real qb this team could go places.Depending what they got for Gore, yes, they should look at it. Packers could use a good rb. With a hefty o-line we could make a lot of rb's look decent.
After arguably one of Alex Smith's best games this comes up? Yeah, he threw a couple of picks on some bad luck deflections, but overall he played VERY well against the Saints. They've spent this long "developing" him (Nolan/Hostler/Martz did more to ruin than develop, but that's a whole other discussion), might as well see it through this year, then blow the whole thing up if it still doesn't work.

yeah willis is better, but i was only thinking offense. gore is better and more valuable than davis. gore is not nearly as replaceable as you might think. there are only a few guys in the league that can do what he does. but that wasn't even my point. i said they have a lot to play for and just because they arent odds on favorite to win the superbowl, they are certainly in a position to make the playoffs and go from there.
