IDP Auction Values (1 Viewer)

I'll be doing an auction this weekend with offensive players and a small IDP (1 LB, 1 DB, 1 DL). What kind of auction values do people normally allocate for IDP players like this? I think conventional wisdom usually says to wait til the 8th or 9th round in snake drafts before grabbing IDP players. How does that translate in auction leagues? $5-$10? Or closer to $1-$2?

I run an IDP just like the one you are having and I would recommend to NEVER spend any more than $2-5 on any of the IDP's. That being said, it really depends on how many points you award for defensive plays. If it's 1 point per tackle, regardless of it's a solo tackle or assist, you might want to/be willing to spend more on elite tacklers at their respective positions. This year I ended up with Patrick Willis for $3, Trent Cole for $2 and Tyvon branch for $1 and I'm sure they'll be worth every penny. Once again, I can't stress enough, don't spend any more than 1/10th to 1/20th on your total auction dollars on IDP's. Depending on how big your league is, there will be PLENTY of free agents available after the draft that you can pick for for nothing. I hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback, exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking that I shouldn't spend much, especially with our league starting only 1 guy at each position, meaning at worst, the waivers should still yield quality guys. As a Niners homer, I'll probably allow myself to splurge on P-Will up to ~$5, but other than that, I'll try to get my $1 guys.

With so few IDP players they basically doen't matter as everyone will have studs. Only big dropoff will be with DL but unless they have amped up scoring they score so little it doesn't matter

I find people usually undervalue IDPs anyway so in this instance you can literaly go a few $ on a DL and $1 players elsewhere.

I'd recommend encouraging your league to go to at least 2DL/2-3LB/2DL for it to mean anything

Evidence from tackle heavy system (1pt / solo only 2 per sack)

DL#2 91 pts, DL12 77pts - big drop proportionally but not in absolute FP

LB#2 144 LB12 130

DB#2 128 DB12 113

Conclusion should be clear!
