Decline. Samuel is useless instead of semi like Gally says about Joseph/Gardeck.

In my mock drafts for my 15 team SF, TEP, IDP, I have the LBs going late 1st and 6 gone by pick 24. Of course so many teams need LB with economics of them being hardest to find while being nice scorers. Still give me JOK over next years prospects lead by Harold Paerkins and Barrett Carter.

Side of JOK all the way if scoring description is accurate. Gardeck is out with an ACL, too, I think. He’s out with a knee and I read ACL (double check that). He’s not useless when healthy if you’re tackle-heavy and DL gets tackle points.

Joseph is a DB so fairly worthless. He’s on the wire in a league I’m in.

I generally would agree with you but second round hit rates stink. It’s also taking years for LBs to develop. It’s taken JOK until his fourth year or so to deliver on his promise coming out of Notre Dame. I know what and why you’re talking about backfilling. It’s never one-for-one and you don’t have to draft an LB. I’m just thinking in case the OP is like me and runs thin at the defensive positions so he’s clinging to his LB1.

I’m also not explaining myself incredibly well. I tend to focus on Zealots IDP leagues where offense seems so much more important so that I run thin on defense because I’m always trying to fill on offense. But that’s only four or five years of observing. You’ve been doing both Zealots and IDP way longer than I have, so I’ll sort of defer on the trade thing.

My thinking is this—early seconds are nice. It’s just that the BPAs at 2.1-2.5 can be on defense, and that seems more of a scouting crapshoot than offense. See Chase Young of the Commanders and now New Orleans. I picked him 2.1 and he never came close to living up to his potential save for one game. Injuries had something to do with it, but motor and hustle have also.

Anyway, JohnnyU and I were posting articles about what a second round pick is really worth over in the Shark Pool. He had a recent podcast and I had Mike Tagliere (R.I.P.) and his oldie but goodie from 2020 on standby. They’re illuminating articles.

So maybe I won’t defer. I think I’d still take the LB4 overall in this case. But Gatorade, I’m a novice compared to Tick. Everyone’s mileage may vary.
