If Bonds admitted and asked for forgiveness (1 Viewer)

"What we should have done a long time ago was stand up -- players, ownership, everybody -- and said: 'We made a mistake.' We should have apologized back then and made sure we had a rule in place and gone forward.

I've said that from Day 1...

MLB is letting Bonds hang out to dry and anyone else... MLB encouraged a culture of taking these drugs to keep up with the next guy and a good % of players Used......

Now MLB let's the media and fans attack just a few faces when they themsleves should stand up and apologize - That's what Giambi is saying.... THE SPORT had the problem, but, they continue to choose to allow a few take the heat for many.

Long ago MLB should have stood up, accepted blame and stated that from here on we have a Zero tolerance policy....

Agreed.Still doesn't mean we have to look upon Barry's records and pretend that they are legit.

Well to me MLB is still tring to cover up this mess. There are talks that the NY Yankees are looking to void out his contract after his comments. And that the MLB is upset that he pointed the finger back to MLB for what everyone knows is the truth. That said Bonds could come out and say he is sorry and it would not even matter. As people just hate Bonds and will never give him a fair shake.

The public is generally forgiving. A person can be a total and complete jerk for a 30 years, but turn over a new leaf and the public will still give them another chance.

I hate Bonds. Now I don't hate him for taking steroids. I hate him for his cocky, smug defiance. If he had just come clean and admitted it, I would have at least respected him and I'm sure others would as well. Instead he wants to sit back and lie. He's spineless. I don't even consider what he did cheating. I just think he's a spineless liar.
I agree..Bonds has the spine of a jelly fish.

Actually, I think it does. The players are not the ones inherently responsible for this mess. Major League Baseball is. If you want to question the legitimacy of Barry's numbers, then you need to question the legitimacy of baseball of the past 20 years.Love it or hate it, Barry's record-crushing ways are part of baseball. I don't think you can separate the two.

Laying responsibility for who's at fault has nothing to do with interpreting an appropriate historical comparison of Hank Aaron or Roger Maris versus a bunch of cheaters. It's very easy to separate the two.

I saw him outside Busch Stadium after a game in 2000. He was walking past all the kids wanting autographs, etc,....just walked right past them and as he walked onto the bus, he turned around once on the bus and yelled "BLACK POWER!".....like he was making a statement by not signing. That is all I needed to despise him.....the 'roids, etc just further it.

It's an era. That's what it is. It's not a singular issue with a singular player. It is a league-wide problem with league-wide implications. Are the pitching numbers in the Dead Ball era simply ignored because of the era? No, are they considered somewhat differently because of the era they were in. Absolutely. To a certain degree, the pitching numbers before 1969 are also different that those of today due to the change in pitching mound heights. The Steroid Era is just another era. It's unfortunate that it is an era spawned by greed at several levels at once, but it is still an era. The only way to realisitically discredit the numbers produced is to wipe the slate clean, which IMO, is worse than living with records that were impacted by this era of baseball.
