If Hunter receives Defensive points in your league, is he locked in to 1.02? **Update: I took Hunter (1 Viewer)

Is he the obvious choice at 1.02?

These are the extra points Hunter can receive starting him at WR...

Forced Fumbles: 2 points each
Interception Return TDs: 6 points each
Interceptions: 5 points each
Interception Return Yards: .1 points each
Passes Defended: 1 point each
Tackles: 2 points each
Assists: 1 point each
Sacked a QB: 5 points each
Sacked a QB Yardage: .1 points each
Tackles for a Loss: 3 points each
Safeties: 6 points each

I am about to find out on Friday night. The guy has picks 2 and 3 for my IDP league that gives 2 pts per tackle, 1 per assist, 4 per INT.

MFL locks Hunter in as a WR though no cheapness of playing him at DB on this site.

For FFPC his ADP ended up being 1.05 for 882 drafts.

He does, and that’s exactly where he went.

16 team big play IDP

What remains to be seen is if he gets the Taysom treatment with CB/WR eligible.

Either way he’s a unicorn. Even as a WR he gets TKL, ATK, INT, DTD when he plays defense, but not PD, which is odd.

Either way, that’s where he went. I’m not sure I would have taken him here, but yeah.

Man, if you can start him at CB, he has a chance to be the single highest scoring CB of all time. Absolute cheat code.

Although MFL doesn't support dual eligibility, some of their leagues were setup awarding defensive points for all positions.

I am sitting @ 1.02 in one such league that begins drafting tomorrow. It's just tough to imagine passing on Hampton.

That’s how my MFL IDP leagues are.

Note: our offensive players do not get defensive points unless they are playing on defense.

Like, a RB won’t get a tackle after an interception, for example.

I don’t play in any dynasty IDP leagues, but if you’re in one where Hunter can score BOTH offensive and defensive points, is there a case to be made for him going 1.01? Just curious.

I feel like it depends on your scoring system. In my league CB have higher points per tackle than a LB to get equality between positions. Two points per tackle adds up twice as fast as one... As you'd imagine. Is that enough to pick him first? Idk, but now I'm really considering it.

in all my IDP leagues with similar scoring, Hampton was still 1.02 and Hunter was almost always 1.03, never made it past 1.04.
In 1 such league I hade 1.02 and it was a tough decision... I took Hampton and crossed my fingers Hunter would fall too my 1.05 but of course he didn't. I have a little regret so 1.02 is very reasonable if you want him

I think it depends on need. If you are RB poor, you go Hampton. If you are equally good at RB and WR, shoot for the moon and grab Hunter. In my opinion, you're only getting maybe two years of him playing both positions. The NFL is a different animal than college so I doubt his body will let him play that much.

My league is the same. I got Hunter at 1.03 mostly because none of my league mates knew that particular scoring rule. It caused quite a kerfluffle in league chat once another league mate mentioned it.

Here's our scoring rules:
Length of Defensive Fumble Recovery TD 0-49 6
Length of Defensive Fumble Recovery TD 50-110 9
Fumble Recoveries (from Opponent) 0-10 4 points each
Opponent Fumble Recovery Yards -50-999 .1 points each
Length of Offensive Fumble Recovery TD 0-39 6
Length of Offensive Fumble Recovery TD 40-49 7
Length of Offensive Fumble Recovery TD 50-110 9
Forced Fumbles 0-10 4 points each
Length of Interception Return TD 0-49 6
Length of Interception Return TD 50-110 9
Interceptions Caught 0-10 6 points each
Interception Return Yards -50-999 .1 points each
Passes Defended 0-99 1.5 points each
Passes Defended 3-99 3
Length of Blocked Field Goal TD 0-49 6
Length of Blocked Field Goal TD 50-110 9
Blocked Field Goals 0-10 6 points each
Length of Missed Field Goal Return TD 0-108 6
Length of Missed Field Goal Return TD 109-110 9
Length of Blocked Punt TD 0-49 6

Tackles 10-99 3
Assists 0-99 0.75 points each
Sacked a QB 0-25 4 points each

I just don't see it. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm trying to "realistically" wrap my mind around his usage. I don't see him being able to play a full gamut of offensive AND defensive plays. It's HARD on your body and if he wants league longevity, he'll have to realize that. So "realistically" what are we looking at? 30 plays on offense and 30 on defense? Since he's designated as a WR, 40 offensive plays and 20 defensive? And say he IS as good at CB as is thought...QBs aren't gonna be throwing his way very often. Which is why those of us in IDP league don't typically draft the lockdown CBs...we want the guys on the other side that will get picked on more (thus more opps for stats). Make it make sense.

I mean is this question about offensive leagues that randomly have scoring set up should a player suit up on defense, or IDP leagues? Those seem like two completely different questions and the former would make Hunter way more valuable than the latter

If he plays 80% snaps WR and 35% snaps DB and gets points for both at WR, I think he is easily the 1.1. Getting 15% snaps than every other player. He is going to be over 100. Just how much over. In yours with 2 pts per tackle is huge. That is 1 reception for 10 yards. 2 tackles per game is going from 6-60 to 8-80 in a hurry. 136-1360 season. Good luck beating that Ashton.

My league does not and he can play DB but has to specify playing WR and DB and only get points for the side he starts. Advantage is carrying 1 player for 2 positions. He went 1.6 in rookie which is probably where he should go with no bonus.

If starting him at DB breaks the league, then there should be a 'WR Travis Hunter' and a 'DB Travis Hunter' available in your drafts similar to how many leagues have 'P Shohei Ohtani' and 'DH Shohei Ohtani'

👍 best case, dude is Patrick Surtain. Leagues might vary, but a full time Surtain was the 42nd ranked corner in my league. If you combine corners and safeties, he was around #100.

Let’s say he performs as a receiver equally to Zay flowers. Add flowers to Surtain, he becomes a top 12 receiver but that’s with him performing equal to two very talented players focusing on their one side.

He’s a top 5 pick for sure, I just wouldn’t take him top 2.

General question for dynasty leagues. If your MFL league that's been going 5 years plus with settings for QB/RB/WR/TE/PK that predictably don't award any points for defensive stats, are you willing to allow that to change to accommodate Hunter?

I'm going to sound like a party pooper here, but I don't think I'll be too thrilled if the commish either makes this change or even puts it to a vote. This is an empire/dynasty that will eventually reset. I really think any rule changes should wait until the league resets.

If a change is made for 2025, I would hope that the defensive points would be nothing more than a pittance to help offset some of Hunter's lost production in WR scoring. If we're changing rules in a way that actually makes him a fantasy monster that scores more points than if he was strictly a full-time WR, I won't be thrilled.

In my case, we don't have IDP players, just the old-fashioned team DST scoring, so that might be a big part of it.

I wouldn't be interested in allowing that rule change for just 1 player and the odd 1 or 2 times a year that a QB/WR/TE get a tackle after an INT.

If you have Jets offensive players they get quite a few tackles. 🫥

Honestly the best possible outcome is he gets WR/CB eligibility because now it’s “imagine your CB going 4/6 for 77 & a TD on MNF” in addition to his defensive stats.

I’m skeptical that will happen, but it’s certainly possible.

Imagine watching your starting WR run back a Pick 6 on Monday Night Football
From your mouth to God's ear.
Now imagine him gassed and on the bench in the 4th quarter, nursing a cracked rib he sustained trying to make a tackle on Saquan or Henry.
😬
You shut your ***** mouth! :ROFLMAO:

Thankfully, he's my WR4. Any and all benefit I can get from him this season will be gravy. But seriously, with our scoring system, 5/50/1TD and 4TKLs, 2 passes defended, and an INT = 40pts. In this (obviously unusual) format, those numbers should be pretty easy to get.

Yeah, I mean I’ve made those same calculations. He’s totally worth the risk in those formats.

The biggest thing is for non IDP leagues, as that risk is so not baked in to the price.

What you’re really hoping for is that he makes some smart “business decisions” with his tacking.

I'm commissioner of two IDP leagues, both on MFL. I initiated this discussion prior to the draft because I didn't want anyone being surprised. The Ohtani comparison was brought up, but I don't see it as a fair comparison. Admittedly, I don't play fantasy baseball, but I'm fairly certain that the stats for pitching and hitting are kept separate. That doesn't translate to football. Also, both leagues I run are set up to award all offensive and defensive points to anyone who does anything that qualifies for points. If a defensive lineman catches a TD at the goal line, he gets points for the catch and the score. If a wide receiver tackles a guy after an interception, he gets points for the tackle.

I started a support ticket on MFL to ask about dual eligibility, and they said it isn't possible, and that Hunter will always be designated as a WR on MFL because of all the offense-only leagues they run. (Commissioners can change the designation, but only to one or the other, not both.)

Hunter went 1.02 in both leagues I run, and his designation is WR.

Thanks - a lot of people have been wondering about this very thing.

So no dual WR/DB, which is sensible because a CB who plays WR would indeed break the game. Ultimate cheat code, probably 1.01 over Jeanty. lol

But great info, thanks for sharing.
