So the Colts would have no problem paying Manning's $28 million roster bonus on 3/1?If he is released he is a UFAIf he is healthy he will be a ColtIf he is not healthy, I would suspect they release him and I would be suprised if he was signed initially. As a Colts fan, I want Manning to be healthy but I have my doubts that he will be.
I don't know if they will know if he is healthy at that point. I heard, before the game, that the Colts and Manning have had no talks to extend the deadline for the roster bonus. $28 million is a lot to risk if you don't know if he can play.So the Colts would have no problem paying Manning's $28 million roster bonus on 3/1?If he is released he is a UFAIf he is healthy he will be a ColtIf he is not healthy, I would suspect they release him and I would be suprised if he was signed initially. This...and I'd be surprised if he signed with MOST teams that might want him. Peyton spent his later years behind a very solid O-line and wasn't hit often. I don't think, given his neck, that he'd want to go to a team without a good O-Line to play for a few years. I'm a Colts fan and I'd also like to see him end up with the 49ers. Here's the way I see it. The talent surrounding Manning only managed two wins this season. Even if Manning comes back, you're looking at 10 or 11 season at best. The team could easily be worse then that. I think it's unlikely that Luck would be willing to sit 3 or 4 years behind Manning nor should he. Even if you trade the #1 pick to surround Manning with better talent, that talent will take 2 to 3 years to develop (aside from maybe Trent Richardson). By that time, Manning may well be on the decline. In sum, the Colts have almost no chance to win another Super Bowl while Manning is around. I think it's in the best interest of the Colts organization and Peyton Manning to part ways. I think the 49ers would be a great landing spot for Manning because he might be able to win another ring there which is something I'd love to see Manning get. He's just not going to get another ring in Indy.'footballnerd said:Is this still true if they take Luck? Leaning this way myself.I have a feeling we're talking retirement here.
I don't think his decision will be based on Montana/Young. I hear what you're saying but Manning is in his mid-thirties, it's not like he'd be going in there for a decade - he's already proved he's one of the greatest of all time.Peyton is smart. He won't want to deal with the Montana / Young legacies. If he's not a Colt he's a Jet.
This is the key right here. That is only seven weeks away. The Colts just can`t afford to pass up Luck, and they probably can`t afford to pay out 28 million for a question mark.So the Colts would have no problem paying Manning's $28 million roster bonus on 3/1?If he is released he is a UFA

This year's results should be proof that the Indianapolis O-line is not solid. Manning doesn't get hit because he audibles well, has an insanely quick release, and great pocket presence; the Colts line hasn't been good in a couple years at least. If I were the Colts, and if Manning looks healthy by March 1, I'd plan to trade the pick for Minnesota's 2012 and 2013 #1 and #2 (which you probably could get), take Griffin instead of Luck and have three more high picks to make one more Super Bowl run with Manning, still with a potential groomable franchise QB in the wings.'Fat Nick said:This...and I'd be surprised if he signed with MOST teams that might want him. RG3 is probably not lasting until three unless the Rams rate somebody in the draft significantly higher then anybody else in the draft. The Redskins, Dolphins, and Browns could all be looking to to trade up. In short, that's a terrible idea especially since those picks will take time to develop. Also, the Colts line did okay this year especially considering all the injuries they had on it. Funny? Ain't it. Honestly, I think Indy needs to keep manning. Odds are luck will be good. Not manning. IMO. They can get a lot for that pick and build around Manning and wait for another QB. Or grab another FA if needed.Maybe start another thread about Lloyd/Rams/Bradford?Sheesh.

I must have not made myself clear enough in my post. The Rams will most likely trade the pick to the Redskins, Dolphins, or Browns unless they rate Matt Kahil (or someone else) quite a bit higher then whoever they could get at 4, 6, or 8/9 (probably Blackmon, Richardson, Claiborne, Reiff, or Martin). The new CBA makes trading for a top 3 pick much more attractive. I'm guessing they'll be able to get an extra 1st and 2nd out of the trade.I'd bet there is a at least a 75% chance RG3 goes #2 overall as long as he measures in at 6'1" or taller (listed as 6'2" but people are unsure if he is really that tall). Someone will most likely trade up to get him.'Hoss_Cartwright said:The Rams are not going to take a QB. Yes, I'm sure thats what PM is thinking about.Peyton is smart. He won't want to deal with the Montana / Young legacies. If he's not a Colt he's a Jet.
This is the way I'm seeing it. Not for the legacy thing but just for the best landing spot. Jets coaches and management can talk all they want but they are not happy with Sanchez so far. I think they'd be willing to roll the dice on Peyton having 2 or 3 more years left in him and then working to get a resurgence out of the defense. If Manning is in NY, he'd run that offense over Sparano. They have weapons in Holmes, Plax and Keller. Greene would be the Addai role. That offensive line was the best in the league 2 seasons ago. It doesn't all fall apart that fast. Then Rex can do what he does best, coach defense. Jets would be a legitimate contender if Peyton can indeed still play.Peyton is smart. He won't want to deal with the Montana / Young legacies. If he's not a Colt he's a Jet.
