I think Sproles' touches would go up a small amount but Tolbert would get the bulk of Matthews' carries. I think Tolbert is actually a very good runner and would surprise if that happened. I also think the Chargers would pass more.
Possibly if he makes the team. No, actually, even then probably not.As of right now, I'd say it's about 50-50 that the Chargers will go with just four RBs on the 53-man roster — Mathews, Sproles, Tolbert, and Hester. If they do keep a fifth, I'd say it's somewhat close to 50-50 whether it's Marcus Mason or Shawnbrey McNeal. (Mason may have a slight edge.)They're really looking to conserve roster spots on offense in order to make room for an extra defensive lineman and/or linebacker. They're probably either going to go with just two QBs (waiving Crompton), just four RBs, or just four WRs. And I do think they really want to keep WR Seyi Ajirotutu, so the extra cut will likely come from QB or RB. A big problem for Mason and McNeal is that Tolbert has looked better as a runner than either of them.
