Nove taking out Phi Slamma Jamma is still one of the great upsets in sport.
I can still remember every detail of the scene when we watched that shocker from a Galveston Hotel Room in high school.Huge, huge, huge. There are just so many examples. How can one be the best ever?
Nova took out Georgetown , NC State took out Houston aka Phi Slamma Jamma

I hate the Giants but the answer to this question is yes. Most people picked them to beat the Bucs but the Bucs were a division winner. No one in their right mind picked them to go TO Dallas and beat the Cowboys. The Cowboys were 13-3 and an early favorite for the Super bowl.NO ONE gave them any chance to go into the frozen tundra and win. No one is giving them a chance to even get within 10 points of beating the undefeated, possibly best team of all time, Patriots. If they win. They earned it, they deserved it and it is the best playoff run in history.
Just wanted to clarify that ALL 5 guys on Fox picked TB to beat the Giants

Yeah, I saw a reference to NC State, then quoted the line w/Phi Slamma Jamma. Didn't notice the Nova, but I'm well aware that it was UH vs NCSt in that game. It still hurts. At that time, Texas basketball was about as much fun as a root canal, so most of my Horn friends and I were pulling for Akeem and the UH boys when we weren't pulling for the Horns.Great game and great upset by State.

Because no team had ever done it before, and how impressive it was, I would say currently it was the Steelers

a couple years back. To win away-away-away, and then dominate the Super Bowl... best ever. And I didn't

think anyone could do better, but if the Giants can duplicate that, and then beat the team that many are

touting as the "best ever," I can't think of any other team that would deserve that title.

And I'm talking football.. none of this hockey, baseball, basketball crap...

:banned: My wife often says I've lost my mind though.

And I think they can win the SB. Don't think they will, but can.

Why does everything today have to be "The greatest of all tiiiiiime"?

Who's running this campaign, Bill Walton?

I think the Steelers run in '05 was more impressive. As the 6 seed, they beat the top 3 seeds in a very tough AFC (as opposed to the Giants beating the chump NFC teams) and then beat the number 1 seed from the NFC in the Super Bowl. And they won three of the games by double digits, and the only close game (vs. Indy) wouldn't have been close had it not been for that blown call on the Manning INT.
In football, I agree with this. In baseball, the Red Sox in 2004 won eight games in a row after being down 0-3 and their final three outs in the ALCS, beating two 100-win teams in the process. The White Sox also won 8 straight games in 2005.
I was going to say the same thing.Couldnt the OP have left this at football only? It's really ridiculous to compare this across all sports.

I think this tops the Steelers in '05 easily. Not sure if it beats the Rockets in hoops. Those are the most I remember in my lifetime. Hard to tell this early.

Because something has to be. And the more history we get, the larger an event has to be to be considered "all time." I would say winning three on the road and then offing an undefeated team has to be consideres among "all time."

With the way this game ended, I think that sealed the deal on the greatest, and most unlikely run ever! The Giants emptied the Karma bank tonight!

I see your point Andy, but, the Red Sox beating the Yankees a few years ago to win the ALCS and then to sweep the WS, was simply the greatest post season of all time, in any professional sport..ESPECIALLY when you realize they were down 0-3, and clinched the ALCS on the road...and, they hadn't won a WS since 1918..but the 2007 Giants are pretty damn close!
