My guess:

If the game was in Indy, the Colts would be a 9½ point favorite.

In Chicago, the Colts would be favored by 3.

Traditionally, depending what you read and trust, an NFL home field advantage is worth 3 points on the chalk.

Therefore, if the game is a 7 (I haven't checked, I believe it is), the game in Chicago would be Bears +4, and in Indy it would be Colts -10.

(BTW - just checked, and today it moved to 6.5)

I don't think the advantage is so much homefield as it is "home field." Miami's field is just natural grass isn't it? I think that gives a slight more advantage to the Bears more than the Colts. If this was played in a dome, that would likely improve the Colts odds as favorites.

I guess my question was more related to weather and field (as touched on by Jous).I realize this is an excercise in hypotheticals (which is really all we have left, as everything else has been talked to death...), but my question, restated more clearly isoes extreme weather typically have an effect on the betting line?(i.e. if tommorow morning they were predicting a monsoon with 25 MPH winds would the line be moved - or just move as a result of money coming down on one side particularly hard?)

It would affect the total a LOT more than the side.I've seen totals drop 5 or more points on game day due to severe storms.

While I concur with your rationale, they would never give the Bears more than a FG at home.
