If you had a draft this past weekend... (1 Viewer)

Weirdest thing I've seen so far.

12 team initial dynasty draft.

At pick 5.01 somebody took the Chicago Bears Defense.

I have no idea who I'm drafting against since I took over a draft in the middle of the 4th round. The team I took over had drafted P Manning, M Lynch, M Harrison & DeAngelo Williams (in that order).

How far did Larry Johnson slide? How far did Adrian Peterson climb? Was somebody sold on McNabb's knee?Who did somebody gamble on?
I'm in a twelve team PPR league. LJ and Gore dropped to 1.6 and 1.7. I've been watching a number of these e-mail drafts. T Jones and Portis just keep dropping. We are almost in the fourth and they are both on the board. In these leagues you are seeing runs. The QBs, Palmer thru Bulger, go quickly, once the run starts. But it starts in different places. Sometimes it starts in the second and they are all gone by the mid-third. And sometimes it doesn't start until the late third or mid-fourth. The second tier RBs are all over the board. All I can say is stay flexible. There will be value, but hard to say whether it will be at QB, RB, or WR, at any particular point in the draft.

10 team PPR redraft, start 2 RB, 2 WR + 2 RB/WR. Most guys have been in the league for > 4 yrs.

LJ went at 7 (I passed on him at 5 for Westbrook - PPR scoring and I think KC is in for a bad year, including LJ)

Colston at 3.04 (5th), Owens at 4.3 (9th)

CHI & BAL gone 5.01 & 5.03. PHI (??!?) and SD gone in the 6th.

Michael Turner 7.10 - NOT by the LT owner.

Heap at 8.03, 4th TE taken, Gonzo 8.08, 6th TE

Chris Henry (RB, TEN) 9.04... LenDale 12.01... Chris Brown 15.05 (by me)

Donald Driver 8.06 (by me), 27th WR off the board.

Startup dynasty- 12 team, keep all

Biggest shocks:

-FWP taken with the 4th overall

-Marvin Harrison- taken 24th overall, 5th receiver (I grabbed Wayne three later at 27- never thought marvin would go before reggie)

-Brady at 29 overall in a 4 pt per TD league

-Norwood dropped to 87 (picked by me)

-Turner dropped to 114 (again me- yes I missed him for about 4 rounds - oh well :goodposting: )

-everyone was shocked when I picked Adrian Peterson at 14 but I was shocked he was still there.

Gotta say no real surprises at my draft tonight. There were a few reaches, but nothing nuts.

1. Guy with 1.1 takes Marshawn Lynch at 3.1 (with Holt at 2.12). Says he high on him.

2. Same guy takes QBs in back to back 8th and 9th rounds (Cutler/Favre).

3. When I took Vince Young in the ninth I took some ####. Couldn't figure out why.

4. Portis slid to late third - I was praying to get him at 3.11.

5. Julius went before Marion.

6. Backup RBs with little chance of playing were going well before some very quality backup QBs.

7. Brady taken at 2.9 with Brees and Palmer going mid third. No other QB went until McNabb at 5.10 (I then took Bulger at 5.11). Great value IMO.

What I didn't mention is that Benson and James are still on the board with three picks left in the third. I thought they were going to go mid-third which is already pretty low.

How Turner lasted till the 9th round of a 12 team DYNASTY league is beyond me. I've seen him go anywhere from the 3rd - 4th rounds....NEVER past the 5th for sure!

Commish was monitoring the draft and let the computer autopick C Palmer 3.09, then M Bulger 4.04 for a team thinking it was his pre-draft picks........then has the nerve to say "He'll probably want to trade one of them...."

In our start-up 12 team $150 Keeper league (Keep 6), he was drafted at the end of the 7th yesterday.

Surprises at my auction draft.

$99 cap

LT2 - $59

Cadillac - $3

Antonio Gates - $5 (TE at WR position, but still!)

Clinton Portis - $7

Peyton Manning - $21 (not surprising until you see these next 2)

Drew Brees - $27

Marc Bulger - $26

Donald Driver dropped like a ton of bricks. He was there passed round 10. I had my WRs locked up so I didn't grab him but no one knew about his status (on early Saturday).

Betts went in Round 9, and not to the Portis owner.

(Also, ConstruxBoy and Jeff Haseley (wheelhouse) have the same hat. Didn't see that one coming.)

Homeboy league with pretty knowledgeable participants (we'd like to think) - drafted yesterday. Here's the first four rounds.

Here's how my main league 12 team PPR, Superflex, performance scoring went. QB's went EARLY. By the time I decided to take a QB there were about 9-10 off the board, so I sluffed QB's some more and got Schaub late.

My Team, Masters of The Grid Iron drafting from the #2 slot:

QB: Schaub13.2, Culpepper 15.2

RB: Steven Jackson1.1, Cedric Benson2.11,Ahman Green7.2,Lamont Jordan9.2, Chris Brown 11.2

WR:T.O. 3.2, Andre Johnson 4.11, Calvin Johnson 5.2, D.J. Hackett8.11, Brandon Marshall 12.11,Demetrius Williams 14.11, Vernon Davis 10.11

As far as WR go, yes it is the All Audible WR Corps (Hackett, Marshal adn Williams) :hifive:

Unfortunately, I ended up with Andre Johnson, Schuab and Ahman Green on my team. I was only targeting Green...

Biggest surprise? The fact that 6QBs were off the board by the middle of the 2nd round. That never, EVER happens in my league. The last 4 years, the number of QBs off the board by pick 36 has been: 3, 4, 3, 3. This year there were 6 gone before pick 29.

F'n BS.

In a free league that a bunch of guys from my church do, I really didn't want him on my roster. However, I couldn't really pass up on Ronnie Brown at 9.03.

QBs went quick in my league as well. It was a keeper league and 8 QBs were protected to begin with (including 1 guy with 2 QBs and I kept Cutler). By the end of the 2nd round, 4 more QBs were gone and 2 teams still didn't have a QB yet.

12 team .25 PPR, Westbrook slipped to me at 11. Rudi, Henry, FWP and Bush went ahead of him. I considered Gates at the end of the third somewhat of a slip as well, so I grabbed him. I was also really surprised Driver went where he was initially projected. I was going to grab him a round or two late and get a steal.

12 Team Money League - Same group of players mostly from the past 4 years. I was AMAZED to get:

Adrian Peterson at 7.6.

WR-heavy league for starting requirements, so a huge, long run at WR. I was thrilled to get him as my RB4 in a league that only starts 2 RBs.

Manning fell to the second round (4/TD -2 INT), and went 2.1.

My queue picked me a Kicker before the last pick of my draft. Second to last... but still, I was ashamed. :excited:

Auction draft ($200 cap). LTII, Jackson, Gore all kept.

#1 Surprise - Bush goes for $54

Larry Johnson - $58

Shaun Alexander - $54

Reggie Bush - $54

Willie Parker - $45

Brian Westbrook - $40

#2 Surprise - Peterson goes for $20, less than these guys

Marshawn Lynch - $25

Ronnie Brown - $23

Brandon Jackson - $17 (only $3 less)

#3 Surprise - Dunn and Chester Taylor are the last two players selected for $1ea (we do have limited roster size)

#4 Surprise - Calvin Johnson went for $27, more than these guys

Lee Evans - $26

Andre Johnson - $26

Plaxico Burress - $21

#5 Surprise - Santana Moss went for $12 and Hines Ward went for $13 (no respect?)

That's a sin.
Wow. Were there no pre-draft rankings? I would think somebody would miss the draft or somehow take him by default because time runs out. I know a lot of people who draft much more effectively when they accidentally don't get their pick in in time, and they get the default guy queued up. 9.03 is unbelievable... just don't tell me Ricky went in the 4th. :hophead:

I've had two drafts so far, that went completely differently. In one, people went RB crazy, and in the other, WRs flew off the board in rounds 2 & 3.

The biggest surprise I've seen so far, is people really reaching for Chris Henry (RB-Ten). He went in the 5th round of a 12-teamer, and in the 7th in a 10-team draft. Pretty crazy for a guy who is probably 3rd on the depth chart right now.

ETA: In the 12-teamer, Chicago and Baltimore DSTs went in the 5th round.

14-team league, non-keeper, no re-draft

Parker was the 3rd overall pick (not so bad but I was a little surprised). Ditto for Bush at #6.

Palmer went 2:04 (this guy proceeded to draft Kaeding in the 6th round so who knows what he was smoking)

McNabb slid to 5:10 and I picked him. Not unusual due to his knee concerns. Unusual because Leinart, Young, and Cutler were picked ahead of him

The 4-5 elite DST were gone in succession in the 4th round which has never been done in our league.

There was a defense run in my league too, although it was more along the lines of the end of the 5th beginning of the 6th round in my keeper league. I was the 2nd to last team to take a defense. I waited until my 3rd to last pick and STILL got Carolina. One guy had TWO kickers and TWO defenses before I took my defense. But I can't laugh at him because he's won our league FIVE times!

Impressive resume for your buddy but how can you explain drafting 2 kickers? What's the point?

One thing that surprised me slightly: MJD going mid-2nd round in one of my leagues, but no attempt to draft Fred Taylor by the MJD owner. And Taylor went in the 10th round. I mean, Fred is old and fragile but isn't he the starter still? 10th round is crazy. Reminds me of Benson's rookie year when he went in the 4th round and I got TJones in the 9th. MJD is better than Benson to be sure, but I think the guy who drafted Taylor in the 10th round will get some good production.

Portis at 6.04, Betts at 6.07.

Michael Vick in the last round (3 player keeper league)

Lendale White at 10.10. Chris Henry at 12.01. Then, TEN's actual starter, Chris Brown, at 13.03

Adrian Peterson before Travis Henry

Roy Williams before Torry Holt and Larry Fitzgerald

.... and, like I said, it's a keeper league. We submitted our 3 keeper players at the beginning of August and drafted on Sunday. Anyway, in the second round (fifth round equivalent), some guy picked McNabb, despite having no RBs. "You already have Brees, and now you take McNabb?" we asked.

"Oh, forgot I had Brees, I was so excited that McNabb was still available!"

Some guy in our league drafted two kickers--he took Gould early (12th) and Jason Hanson later (14th). I ridiculed him instantly. He said it was a "bye week strategy" that would be too complicated to explain to my ignorant self. I egged him on, he said "well, I can start Gould all year, then plug Hanson in and drop him right afterward for another defense, so when my main defense is on a bye I won't have to drop a "real player" to pick one up.":bowtie:First off, that's a stupid strategy since waiver moves are free and unlimited. Second, his main defense is Philly. Their bye is in week 5. Gould's bye is in week 9. His plan doesn't even make sense on that level.

Carolina Defense went undrafted in my league. The run started at 10.01 (7th round plus 36 keepers), I picked Chicago there because I didn't have room to run a committee. Tempted to grab the Panthers on principle, but both they and Chicago have bad first weeks.Oakland, Philly, Packers, Cowboys, all drafted. Carolina on the waiver wire.

Dynasty league rookie draft, screwy scoring (see sig). Rookie-only picks in rounds 1 and 2, round 3 picks can be rookies or free agents. All picks go on a separate reserve rosters (10 players max, 3 per position max), and you can hold them there indefinitely, you just can't start them. The league's been running since the mid-80s, I joined in the late 90s.

Surprises:

1) Ted Ginn picked #3

2) 3 TEs taken (Miller at #10, Olson at #13, Scott Chandler at #31)

3) 3 Ks taken, all late-second or third round

I realize it's a pretty thin rookie class this year -- I'd have a hard time coming up with 4 other draftable skill players to replace Chandler and those 3 Ks -- but it was still really surprising to see.

Oh, and also, kickers started going pretty early. I was pleasantly surprised to land my K3, Matt Stover, at the end as the 12th kicker off the board.

I have him in all three of my leagues. I admit I often take two kickers if there is no one glaring at me to take, esp. if K has an early bye. Stover's not being til week 8 helped me kick the habit this year.

Taylor in the 10th is definitely good value, but I don't really view that backfield as a handcuff situation. If MJD goes down, it's not like they are going to give Fred the rock 25+ times a game. Maybe the other way around if anything. I took MJD in the 2nd (PPR) and would have taken Fred late if he was there (he went 8.07), but it was never a strategic decision to try.

You got me. I seriously have no idea how he manages it. He drafts 2 kickers and 2 defenses every year pretty much. For a few years he managed to roll with Faulk and James after he drafted James WAY too early his rookie season and pulled a rabbit out of the hat. That lead to 3 of his titles. The other two years his teams were slightly above average but he just got hot during the playoffs. I almost always hate his teams after the drafts, but it's tough to argue with 5 titles in what is a fairly competitive league.

I took portis at 4.11 in a 12 team Dynasty Draft and was also able to grab Cadillac Williams at 5.02....Cutler went real early..Brian Westbrook lasted till 12.

:goodposting: i admit i don't handcuff to start with, but i agree taylor is not a legit handcuff for jones-drew.

8 team league, PPR, keep 2 players drafted after 5th roundHere are some notes:- LJ went 4th overall behind LT, SJax, BWest.- I actually traded up to get Peterson, who was still on the board somehow at the end of the 7th round (56th overall) and I'll be happy to keep him next year. Also picked up Taylor in the 12th round in case one of the two emerges.- Alexander fell to 10th overall, but injury concerns and PPR format probably have something to do with it.- Ronnie Brown fell to the 5th round (38th overall).- S. Smith, CJ, TO, Harrison, Wayne, Javon Walker all went before Holt.- Nobody wanted anything to do with Ahman Green.- QB's were flying off the board.- We don't have to start a TE, but I still got Todd Heap in the 14th round (107 overall)- Devin Hester was drafted in the 11th round.- LenDale White, Jamal Lewis, Julius Jones, Tatum Bell, DeShaun Foster went undrafted.Certainly didn't go down as expected, but no team really ended up too weak being that it is an 8 team league.
Are you kidding, in an 8 man league you had a guy that couldn't find a better pick than Hester in the 11th?!?!

you want weird? here's weird.

i play in a 16 team league. you have 12 on your roster. start 1qb, 1rb, 1wr, 1te, 1k, 1d/st. 3 flex positions (rb/wr/te). you get yardage and scoring points. its a little different but not that far removed from a "standard" type league. anyways, we are allowed to save one player per team. here's who was saved:

QB Peyton Manning, IND

RB Larry Johnson, KC

RB Brian Westbrook, PHI

RB Reggie Bush, NO

RB Cedric Benson, CHI

RB Willie Parker, PIT

RB Ronnie Brown, MIA

RB LaDanian Tomlinson, SD

RB Stephen Jackson, STL

RB Shaun Alexander, SEA

RB Frank Gore, SF

RB Will McGahee, BAL

WR Chad Johnson, CIN

WR Marvin Harrison, IND

WR Reggie Wayne, IND

TE Antonio Gates, SD

no major surprises there, honestly. folks saved the best players from their rosters. the surprises began in the first draftable round.

1.03 - WR Matt Jones, Jac

following that pick, in the next round, the same team took:

2.03 - QB Byron Leftwich, Jac

They apparently were/are very concernedd about having a connection between wr and qb. no clue really though. they've drafted decently in the past. in fact, two years ago they were one game from the superbowl.

do they know something i don't?

Couple of surprises in a 12 team redraft (with IDP) - 26 man rosters.

1. defending champ took Vince Young as his QB1 as the 5th qb taken in the draft (behind manning, palmer, brees and bulger)

2. zach thomas went ahead of demeco ryans as the 1st LB taken

3. troy polomalu was the 2nd DB taken (way too early IMHO)

4. our league requires you to fill one roster spot (in any order) from each position in the first 7 rounds (qb, rb, wr, k, dl, lb, db) and then beginning in round 8 you can take whoever you want for the rest of the draft. Usually round 8 sees 8 rbs go off the board as people get their RB2...this year two teams went wr in round 8 and one of those teams didn't draft rb 2 until round 10...when most rbs were already gone.

5. when team swere allowed to start getting rb2s, james and thomas jones went before travis henry...not shocking, but a little surprising.

mine tops them all . . .

Im in a Dynasty league in its 5th year . . .

we have the rookie draft every year on our site's message board - we got emails last week confirming the date and time (last night at 8 central) . . .

a girl in our league (charter member) asks for the date to be confirmed - keep in mind that she talks with two other charter members on a regular basis . . .

this girl has the 1st pick . . .

I traded away my first round pick, and I still showed up on time . . .

one guy doesnt show but emails the commish his predraft list . . .

the girl doesnt show at thee beginning and we start complaining . . . finally the commish compromises and drops her to #3 and assigns her Lynch . . .

of course, she shows up two 1/2 hours later and says a few "choice" words which I can't repeat . . .

meanwhile we were like "why didn't she just pick Peterson as soon as the season was over last year"???

unreal . . .

14 QB's in the first 7 rounds.

12 Redraft, PPR, Superflex.

I was :lmao: by round 5 and by round 7 I decided to wait even longer. Ended up with Schaub. (posted all results above)

**ETA** but :lmao: with the "value" picks that were available at RB & WR
