IF you own a Charger Offensive player (great read) (1 Viewer)

It really does make sense. Its tough to be consistant when your players are inconsistantly in practice and out of practice.
:goodposting: Very good article, I don't think this offense is in near as bad a shape as it looks on paper. Better health and even just a modicum of better discipline by the O-line would flip the switch here. One thing I take issue with in the article is that if Kevin Acee is the all-everything Chargers insider beat writer, ya gotta do better than this..."Rookie Vincent Brown, who could get more looks Sunday, has been deemed worthy of just 55 snaps and four throws his way all season." I drafted Brown fairly high in dynasty because he was drafted into a prolific system and a supporting cast that has a well documented history of nagging injuries. But finding any news on this kid whatsoever the last month is a rare find. Does he look like crap in practice, hasn't learned the offense? The Chargers are the walking wounded and yet a healthy rookie they drafted in the 3rd round has been blanked in three of four games played. I sure would appreciate a stab by somebody at WHY - especially an insider.

Hope V-Jax has a big game this week, then I'm selling. Who knows if he'll be healthy at all this season.

It's interesting that the article compares them a lot to their opponent this week, the Packers. The Packers struggled last year with injuries as well until later in the season. It took them a few weeks to make adjustments but put it all together late in the season. Not saying the results will be the same but I think the Chargers are going through the same adjustment period the Packers went through last year.

This is true but Rivers has also been an elite QB. He played at an MVP level last season. That's what makes his play this season so surprising and makes me wonder as others do that he's playing hurt. It seems to be the only thing that makes sense. As great as Sproles has been this season, I'm not buying that the Chargers miss him as much as others are saying. Both Mathews and Tolbert have proven to be extremely reliable and productive check-down options for Rivers so it's not like the offense is suddenly devoid of that option. Plus, it's not like the Chargers were using Sproles all that much anyway. If anything, I'd say he was under-utilized in San Diego. I'd be more concerned about the Chargers' defense than offense right now. The Red Zone mistakes were a killer against the Chiefs but they did move the ball well. However, they have not done much of anything defensively for the past six quarters and I think that's a big problem. It obviously won't get any easier for them tomorrow against the Packers.

He's not A.J. Green. He didn't have training camp then he got hurt and was inactive the first 2 weeks. So he's behind in picking up the offense. I'd expect him to get more time as the season progresses if (when) Jackson/Floyd/Crayton miss time as they just sent Walters down to the practice squad - they only have 5 WR on the roster now. Realize also that he's not the same size as Floyd/Jackson (listed at 5'11" 184 lb, he's the smallest WR on the roster) so he won't get all the same routes/looks as they do.

These are good points and all, but didn't the Chargers have some of the same personnel problems last season? Jackson holding out, Gates somewhat hobbled, Mathews always banged up, etc? I seem to remember a lot of people marveling at how well Rivers was playing at the halfway point last season throwing to no-names like Seji Ajirotutu(?) and the like...

Yup. That's why I'm not buying the injury excuse. The Chargers have been considerably healthier in the passing game this season than they were last season when Rivers was playing at an MVP level. That's why I think Rivers is playing hurt.

Most of last year the guys getting 1st team reps in practice got 1st team reps in the games. This year it's been different. Guys have been sitting out practice and then playing on Sundays. Tougher to be in synch like that.
