If You Were A Charger Player (1 Viewer)

That was impressive. A good ole fashion butt kicking. Now you have to wonder how do they perform here on out. This has been one of the starngest seasons in the NFL (and college) I've ever seen before. Not sure what's happening but it's very strange.

On this day, the Chargers absolutely answered many questions. But how does a team go so far from one point to the other? Last week they didn't play anything like this week. How does that happen to such a great degree? Especially with a team as talented the Chargers?

bump to get Joe's reaction to the Chargers defensive performance today.
Prediction: (1). Some humility in that it didn't turn out the way he anticipated. (2). Perhaps some reference to Merriman's modest stats. (3). Insistence that his premise is still sound.
To be fair, Joe never said SD would have a bad defensive day or that Merriman's appearance would be the cause of it. Just that he didn't like the way it looked and thought it might be in some way motivational to his opponents. I strongly disagree with Joe but truthfully the final score of this game doesn't disprove what Joe was saying so there's really no need for him to comment on it.I saw where he was coming from but a guys day off is a guys day off. Every player in the NFL takes at least four hours away from studying film at some point during the week to play with his kids, fish, play video games(that one's for Gilbert Arenas fans)... and if Merriman chose to spend his free-time in front of a camera on a studio I didn't see anything wrong with it. Still don't.Further, I think the whole "well you know his opponent loves to see that" motivational stuff is completely overblown. NFL players try hard. They want to win every down of every drive in every quarter of every NFL game. They wouldn't be at that level if they didn't. Every once in awhile you'll see a supremely talented player like Randy Moss that can get by on less than 100% effort but for the most part they are all trying as hard as possible. The next Jet/Patriot game will be a hotly contested battle between the best two teams in the division. It won't be hotly contested because of BB and Mangini and their "feud". NE wants to dominate the NYJ because that's the team on their schedule that week.

I think there have always been up weeks and down weeks. I've seen the shark pool over react to any given week before but it's never been as bad as it is now. Today you could really have a field day going back and "tap"ing all those LHUCK threads proclaiming Leniart>>>Rivers.... but you'd be stooping just as low as LHUCKS does on the rare occasions he's right.SD won a big game on the road... but it was just a game. Something to build on to be sure but keep in perspective Walkers injury(which is HUGE when your CB's are as inconsistent as SD's are) and the Henry fiasco had to be a distraction. It's just one game and can all be undone by a loss to an improving OAK squad if SD doesn't take care of business next week. OAK sits atop the division and SD can move into 1st with a victory so we've already gotten to low on the franchise..... now let's not over react and say SD has answered anything. It's a long season and they still have a ton to prove before we put them in that tier of teams below NE.
