Please stop.  You're embarrassing yourself and I honestly don't like seeing it.  You said there is "no evidence a crime was committed" and that they "may be charged with child pornography".  You were wrong twice.  There is most definitely evidence that a crime was committed.  They have sexually explicit material of the girl being transferred between the two boys.  And they have been charged with child pornography.  Jesus H. I don't want to spend time arguing about the guilt or innocence of these two people because it's always been irrelevant to the question of what to do about illegal immigrants- all anecdotes are. If they are guilty, that doesn't mean that illegal immigrants are more likely to commit violent crimes. If they are innocent, that doesn't mean that illegal immigrants are LESS likely to commit violent crimes. It's meaningless either way, in terms of the title of this thread.

I despise Higgs' comments in this thread. I despise the man whom Higgs voted for because he agreed with him on this issue. I hate that groups of people are demonized; I find that despicable. But that being said, Higgs' proposed solutions for this overall issue, which includes amnesty for all undocumented aliens who are not guilty of violent crimes, is much more reasonable IMO than many conservatives on this subject and he ought to be given credit for that.

Having "open borders" is insane talk, however expansive legal immigration is productive for two reasons:

1. It supplements the total fertility rate, which is growing in importance as natural child birth rates continue to decline
   
2. It increases the tax base (which is why it needs to be legal, on the books immigration)
   

When I plan a vacation, I contact the place well in advance, make all the arrangements, make sure most importantly that they know I'm coming, and the details are taken care of. That's just planning for a vacation, let alone a move to another country. It shouldn't be too much to ask that people have their ducks in a row in order to immigrate to the country legally.

As for those here already, the "get your ducks in a row" time period starts now. A simple application process should be made available by phone, mail and web. If you were found guilty of committing a a violent crime, get ready for it to be reviewed by a case worker as part of your application. If you were clean, get legal, clock is ticking. 

If any of these makes people fear for their jobs or otherwise, shame on them. We were all immigrants of some generation long ago, or not so long ago, and that's pretty much been a cornerstone of American philosophy since even before the poor and huddled masses and Ellis Island days.

There's a lot of common ground on the issue when taken pragmatically. It's the hot-button, inflammatory, fear-based "gotcha" discussions that are counter-productive and serve to divide the country. Got to look past the hype of the flashy news story, and get to the substance of the systemic issues and how to construct a smarter policy going forward. Not always easy.

Back on topic... Did you see the new DOJ Report on the federal prison population?  41,528 illegals in federal prison (out of 190k total).  22%.  Seem a little high to you?

22% is a higher incidence than the incidence of immigrants (putting legal status aside for a moment) in the general population, that's definitely true.

But 41,528 in a country of 321,000,000 people means we're taking policy direction based on 0.01325% of the total population. I also think those people should be deported post haste.

If we keep focus on the positive aspects of immigration and people, while at the same time not ignoring the dark underside with heads in the sand, there's probably a lot that could be accomplished on this topic. And maybe this can help lead to the lessening of the demonizing of groups of people, as well as of individuals on the left and right.

It took like ten minutes, a lot less time than it took to make all those inflammatory posts.  It's not that hard to find Higgs throwing out insults and calling people names.

It would have been a lot longer, but when I compiled the list I only went back 10 days.  I shudder to think how long it would have been had I spent an hour on the project.

That phrase wasn't an insult.  It was a recommendation.  Totally different things.  And it was at the end of a laundry list of complaints that were 100% true and accurate.

But I think you and and rest of the Cheap Seats Chorus should sit back and ##### about it even more.  That tactic seems to be working really well so far.

I've been copying the same list.  And it wouldn't exist if you didn't put so much energy into insults and name-calling.  If you didn't have this long history of dishing out so much garbage, it wouldn't be so easy to compile.  Don't blame me for a bunch of stuff you've said.  Be accountable for your own actions.

How is the list different from the many, many times you bring up other past transgressions against you? Or the many times you've posted lists of your own posts to support an argument you're making?  

You bring me up almost every day here and reply to my posts frequently.  Are those the actions of someone who has that user on Ignore?  Why put me on Ignore if you're going to talk #### about me all the time and engage my posts?   

And then yet another personal attack.  Should I respond like you and scream "LIBELOUS! LIBELOUS!"  and tag a bunch of mods in a big tantrum to beg them to take action against you for telling yet another lie about me?  How long ago did you preach focusing on principles rather than personalities?  Do you practice anything you preach?  Be the change you want to see.
